I'm pretty jazzed about the Hawaii bowl too, in addition to the GMAC bowl. Not only is Hawaii not involved in it for the first time ever (I think), but you've got a UCF team that couldn't buy a win last year versus that really fun to watch Nevada pistol formation offense. As for the GMAC, ESPN/ESPN2 had UTEP on a good few times this year and I caught them once on our Comcast Sports channel against UAB. They might not be the most talented, but damned if they don't come to play every game.

The MAC deserves more respect in the bowls. They're better than having their champ play in a weekday bowl in the afternoon. And 2nd place team play in the early bowls with the New Orleans, Fort Worth and Bluebonnet/Tangerine/Blockbuster/Toilet bowl section.

I think I did these little capsules for three or four games last year before I got Bored so I imagine the same will happen this year.

Oklahoma starting cornerback Chijioke Onyenegecha was suspended for the Holiday Bowl. Thats just about the worst spot to lose a defensive player for the Sooners since Oregon rarely has fewer than 3 receivers on the field at a time and they're all pretty good.

As a sidenote Bored, I'm applying to Florida State for law school. That pic you posted of the FSU girls in the college football thread a couple of weeks ago pushed me to do it.

Huzzah. The FSU Cowgirls will be in the March issue of Maxim and then to complete their 15 minutes of fame in the May issue of Playboy. I'm sure the ABC cameras will be keeping on a eye on them during the Orange Bowl.

MAC kinda sucked this year although Northern Illinois deserved to go over someone like Houston. There's something definently wrong with Conference USA having six bowl teams.

Suckbag sucks more than any other player on defense. I have no clue why he's a starter. So yay.

Well he's a starter because he's the best they have. Apparently Stoops doesn't think he's a suckbag and he was 2nd team all Big 12.

Yes, this was a weak year for the MAC. But, they're still better than 2 shitty bowls. I'd put them up with C-USA, now. Especially since UCF went to their title game... yet, couldn't even win games in the MAC.

He's constantly out of position and he's dropped more INTs than he's actually made. I don't like him.

Well, it is only the fourth annual, but I guess "ever" is appropriate for a pro wrestling forum.

I agree the Toledo-UTEP game looks like the best matchup. I like Toledo in that game just because it seems like UTEP lost every big game they played in this year.

Gradkowski v. Palmer will be great.

Is anyone at all going to watch Kansas-Houston?

Dude, coming from someone who likes a team that helps spell Citrus, it annoys the hell out of me when a team keeps going to the same bowl over and over again. Three years straight is kind of monotonous.

Fair enough.

The Hawai'i bowl rule was in place to safeguard against both teams not traveling well. At least with Hawai'i, you've got 50,000+ people willing to see the Warriors play in a bowl. With UCF/Nevada, there aren't many local residents who are willing to see that, and I have a hard time buying Central Floridians traveling here.

Aloha Stadium's capacity is only 50,000. 38,322 was the largest crowd they get for the Hawaii Bowl. They did sell out the 1989 Aloha Bowl when they played Michigan State but that was their only appearance in that bowl.

Just searched for ticket information to this year's game and as of December 16th Nevada had only sold 75 tickets for their rooting section.

True, but they did 40,974 for the Oahu Bowl with Oregon State when Lelie played, which is arguably the best season the Warriors have had. AF/UW did 34,803 the year previous, and Georgia/Virginia did 24,187 in 2000. You can see the floor for those who will attend each game, and taking in account it was a Christmas-day doubleheader, that's death for the fans.

And it will only get worse. Just move the date of the game away from Christmas already. Placing a two-day radius around Christmas day would be beneficial for the bowl.

Marvin Graves, Syracuse's all-time leader in passing yards, and Arizona cornerback Todd Burden. I searched to find out more about Todd Burden, as I know everyone is dying to know what happened to him, and found this:

Todd Burden thought his future was in the NFL.

A scholarship football player at the University of Arizona, Mr. Burden, a defensive back, was named his team's most valuable player in the 1990 Aloha Bowl. With some justification, he had his eyes set on the pros.

``My focus was football,'' Mr. Burden said. ``It wasn't until my junior year that I realized about...

You got to pay $9.95 to find out what happens! Damn them for leaving me on the edge of my seat!

Oh and I was wrong about the GMAC Bowl. Wow this game ended up blowing.

In that vein, here's what I could dig up from sites; Bored probably has the complete list and team MVP awards somewhere:

1987 - UCLA QB Troy Aikman, Florida RB Emmitt Smith

1988 - Washingtion State RG Mike Utley

1990 - Syracuse QB Marvin Graves, Arizona CB Todd Burden

1992 - Kansas DT Dana Stubblefield

1995 - UCLA RB Karim Abdul-Jabbar, Kansas QB Mark Williams

1996 - Navy QB Chris McCoy

1997 - Washington QB Rashaan Shehee

1998 - Colorado QB Mike Moschetti, Oregon QB Akili Smith

1999 - Wake Forest QB Ben Sankey

2000 - Boston College QB Tim Hasselbeck

I thought I would never read the name Rashaan Shehee again.

I knew Graves was (at least one of them). I just wanted to be a smartass.

I feel a little sad because I remember who most of those MVP's are. Except for Sankey. And the Kansas guy.
