Richard 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2005 On this date in 1985, Minutemen frontman D. Boon was killed in a van accident in Tucson, Az. Though I've only recently gotten into their music, I've realized how great they were and how much more they could have accomplished. So I guess if you have any thoughts or opinions, you can post them here.

Guest RadioBurning Report post Posted December 26, 2005 (edited) Has anyone seen the movie about the Minutemen? The name escapes me... I know Econoline is in the title. "We Jam Econo". It's a line from a song off Double Nickels and their mantra in reference to anti-commercialism. They played it at my local arthouse theater, but it's a hassle to drive to so I never catch the movies there. Double Nickels on the Dime is probably my all-time favorite album, and the fact that Boon didn't live to continue his work is a tragedy. The Minutemen were greater than the sum of their parts, and their potential will be missed. Edit: Oh, and I forgot that they were in my sig until I saw this post. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 We Jam Econo a talking head piece where everyone praises the greatness of the Minutemen but offers little in the way of insight, or, nothing that wasn't covered in the Minutemen chapter of the book Our Band Could Be Your Life. I'd say just read that book instead, but the book itself isn't all that hot, save for the sections on Minutemen, Hüsker Dü and the Butthole Surfers. So check it out from the library or read those chapters at your local bookstore, because Michael Azerrad is a self-important asshole who doesn't deserve your money. Guest RadioBurning Report post Posted December 27, 2005 (edited) Never saw the movie, but I checked out Azerrad's book a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the chapter on them. Last post was right on the mark, because I read a few chapters but the only ones I remember shit from are the Minutemen and Husker Du (and pieces of Minor Threat).
