Question about TiVo...

Soo I bought my parents TiVo for X-Mas and I having some problems with it.

 

For some reason, I can't record something and then watching something else at the same time. Why is this?

 

I bought them the 40 Hours box, if that helps at all.

I dont think that standalone tivo boxes have dual tuner (record one thing and watch something else at the same time) capability.

 

Mine (the High Def Directv Tivo box) has that.

The official answer (I was right) is:

 

Standalone Tivos cannot, and no software update will allow them to. That would require two tuners, two MPEG encoders, and additional inputs that they don't have.

 

The DirecTV/Tivo combo boxes have dual tuner hardware and with the 2.5 software and two DirecTV inputs can record two things at once.
