Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted May 29, 2002 EXCLUSIVE British Bulldog murdered? By CHARLES YATES THE father of wrestling star Davey Boy Smith — The British Bulldog — fears his son was murdered. The 39-year-old died on holiday in Canada and was said to have had a heart attack. But Davey’s dad Sid, 63, alerted police here after receiving conflicting reports from across the Atlantic about his son. He said: “I suspect there has been foul play.” The 18st muscleman died days before a meeting with Vince McMahon to discuss a return with World Wrestling Entertainment — formerly the World Wrestling Federation. Sid, of Golborne, Greater Manchester, thought Davey was blissfully happy. The star lived in Calgary and had gone on holiday to British Columbia with his girlfriend Andrea, 42. But Sid became concerned after speaking to his grandchildren Georgia, 13, and Harry, 15 — Davey’s kids by ex-wife Diana. Sid said: “I believe something serious has happened. Somebody has been telling lies. I want to get to the truth.” Sid demanded Davey’s body be flown home for a fresh post mortem. He said no cause of death was given in paperwork supplied by Canadian police. Davey was found dead by Andrea on May 18. She said he proposed marriage two weeks earlier and added: “I loved him very much.” Cops in Canada are awaiting autopsy results. Manchester Police confirmed they are investigating The Article
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 29, 2002 The 18st muscleman died days before a meeting with Vince McMahon to discuss a return with World Wrestling Entertainment — formerly the World Wrestling Federation. that is horrible. one of my biggest markout moments ever was when the bulldog suddenly appeared on smackdown, defeated the bossman for the hardcore title, gave it to al snow, and said that now he has all the title under his belt he wants the WWF title. of course the wwf fucked that angle up royally, by immediatly turning bulldog heel in what was one of the worst ideas I have ever seen. the bulldog would have been an amazing babyface if he hadn't helped hhh win a match against the rock. if the popularity caught on he could have been champion but instead was he turned heel, got dropped 495 places on the card and was a jobber until he was fired. I ws hoping that we might get to see him make one last shot in the wwe but now that won't be happening.
Guest Report post Posted May 29, 2002 it just seems to me that bulldog's dad can't accept the fact that davey's death was ultimately his own. i'm not trying to sound mean, i'm gonna miss him as much as anyone, but when you take steroids like smith did for years, eventually it's going to catch up with you. Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted May 29, 2002 I had never heard any mention of that fact in any of the reports on his death that I read. I dont know how reputable the Sun is. Aparently its a Tabloid, and if its anything like American tabloids, then the take it with a grain of salt statement is waranted.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted May 29, 2002 trust me, here in the UK the sun is not reputable, especially when it comes to anything to do with wrestling. They said WWE regularly sells out stadiums with a capacity of millions (?!?) and that combined, the rock and benoit weigh 1200 pounds. Yeargh. The British police have actually launched a formal investigation into the death, btw.
Guest papacita Report post Posted May 31, 2002 of course the wwf fucked that angle up royally, by immediatly turning bulldog heel in what was one of the worst ideas I have ever seen. I disagree with you there. Not that Bulldog wouldn't have been a good face, but the man is a great heel. That one heel turn brought him from Hardcore Champion to World Title contender and main event heel overnight. I'm not sure the reasons behind his de-push after No Mercy, but he had crazy heel heat from from September to November 99 (or whenever his blow off cage match with Test was). Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 31, 2002 I disagree right back at ya dude. He became hardcore champion and gave the belt away before he said anything. He got on the mic right after winning the title and giving it to snow and said that he had won all the other titles, now he was coming for the wwf title. The crowd went nuts with that announcement. He was a huge face for the week before turning heel and soon after he was in the mean street posse. that is a serious de-push IMO. his push seemingly died right after the six pack challenge at unforgiven 2000 and any heat that he had jumped straight onto HHH. Guest Report post Posted June 1, 2002 Tragic... sounds to me if this is true, that the dad is just in denial, which is truly sad. I probably would be to though, if the situations were reversed
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted June 1, 2002 I have to disagree with both parties, bulldog was a shadow of his former self at that point in his career and shouldn't have come back anyways. It was sad to see how much he'd deteriorated as a worker.
