WrestleMania XVIII price

i was watching my PPV preview channel (Viewers Choice Canada) and they are playing the new WrestleMania XVIII ad's (very similar to last years "celebration of life" theme).

Some text ran across the bottom of the screen indicating that WrestleMania will be $39.95 BEFORE February 21st. After this date they will charge $49.95 (yikes!). I'm not sure if this applies to the US, but this is the case in Canada. So anyone planning to order the PPV should do so within the next week....

Wow! I think the plan for us who live in the U.S. is for WM to be $34.95. I wouldn't be surprised if within a few years WM will be $49.95.

It will be $40 American, and all subsequent PPVs here will be $35, No Way Out is the last of the $30 PPVs.  As for the Candian price, is that in American or Canadian dollars?  Because if it's Canadian, and my exchange figures are up to par, you're really paying about $32 American if you read the $50 figure correctly.

I'm not getting anymore ppvs after WM.  I might start going to WWF Ny to watch them.

I wonder how many people are going to pay $34.95 after WM. That's a lot of money the WWF is asking for a none WM PPV.

$34.95 for the big PPVs, minus KOTR which has been crap for the past couple years, isn't that bad.  But for the former IYHs, I've never spent $30 on one of them, let alone $34.95.

I will be paying $20 for the WWA PPV, so if I were you, I wouldn't take my opinion seriously.

$34.95 is really high considering they are going to have 2 PPV's a month in the not too distant future.

I'm also glad I don't have to pay for PPV's.

It's pretty sweet isn't it?

i get ppvs half price, but it wont matter for WM since i am going there.

How do you get them half price if you don't mind me asking?

damn, i never realised what a sweet deal us aussies have.  if we book a week before the event, it costs $A 21.  thats like $12 US!!! life is sweet for us...

The Aussie exchange rate is very kind....I've imported T-Shirts from there for 12 bucks total American.  If I had bought the same shirt at a store here, it would've been 16 bucks.

yeah, its sweet for you guys, but normally if we wanna get anything from usa, it costs an absolute fortune.

Grrrr.  And I just quit my job, too.  This is going to put me out of house and home.  I just hope they decide not to go with two PPVs a month.  All indications thus far are that they will, but I think it's an awful idea for almost every conceivable standpoint.

Seeing as how they have contracts with PPV companies to put on 12 live PPVs a year, they'd have to get an amendment to the contracts, and judging by the way the business is going, I doubt the PPV companies will want to go along.  But, this shouldn't be a problem, take my allocation for example:

RR: Roster A + Roster B, matches only within the promotions, RR interpromotional

NWO: Roster A

WM: Inter-Promotional

Backlash: Roster B

May PPV: Roster A

KOTR: Interpromotional Tourney

Fully Loaded: Roster B

SummerSlam: Shared Card, no interpromotion

No Mercy: Roster A

Unforgiven: Roster B

SS: Roster A

Vengeance: Roster B

This gives each promotion 4 PPVs of their own each.

PPV companies wouldn't have a problem at all if the WWF had 2 PPV's a month. PPV companies aren't making much money because of WCW & ECW being sold and folding.

Momma works at the cable company.

They most certainly would have an issue with it.  The wrestling business isn't as hot as it was.  Two PPVs a month would hurt buyrates, sure two .5 buyrates could be as good as one 1.0 buy rate, but for the WWF to continue to profit off of them, both PPVs would have to have consistent buyrates at the level they are now.  Let's face it, no one really wants to shell out 70 dollars a month for wrestling now, even the hardcore fans.  Hell, my buying practices are as follows:

1999: 8 PPVs

2000: 10 PPVs

2001: 7 PPVs

This year I plan on buying only Royal Rumble, WM, and KOTR, maybe SummerSlam.  But the interest just isn't there now, and one audience can't support two PPVs a month.  When ECW and WCW were around it worked, true, but remember, the WWF, WCW, and ECW had unique viewers.  Sure, there was some overlap in the fanbase, but each promotion had some unique fans to pick up the slack.  Now, most of the diehard ECW/WCW fans are disenchanted and gone, killing their potential unique audiences, plus any overlapping fans.  Compounded with the decreasing number of casual fans, there is no room for 2 separate PPVs from the same promotion a month.  Maybe if there was a boom all of a sudden I can buy it, I'm talking wrestling wise and economy wise.  But right now both of them are low, so I can't see the companies agreeing to it.

Yeah, think GOD, i get PPV's for free. Hell, if I were the WWF introducing the NWO, I would lower PPV prices. I was a WCW fan but got burned on so many PPV's because of the shitty NWO overtones and bad wrestling that I just can't fathom paying money for the mediocre product the WWF is putting out, let alone two PPV's a month. Vince McMahon is on crack and he's not even that good of a businessman. I wouldn't be surprised if PPV revenues actually drop because of this boneheaded move.

anyone know if this is just viewer's choice? I know with Bell Expressview you can't order the event till 6 hours before.

I don't think the PPV companies would be that upset, if the WWF expanded its PPV numbers, and the reason is, that the PPV/Cable/Direct TV companies take in most of the revenue off of the Pay Per View.

Besides, while the wrestling industry is down, the PPV companies aren't making big money off of any of the other events really, lets face it, boxing is not the draw it used to be either.

The PPV companies would like to have even some of the revenue back that they lost when WCW and ECW went under, b/c even though those PPV's didn't do great numbers towards the end, it hurt the wrestling companies more than the PPV companies.

If the PPV industry could live with three PPV's in some months, I'm sure they could live with 2.

Unfortunately, raising the price of the Pay Per Views, and then marketing 2 per month is probably the dumbest thing the WWF can do.

Especially, if both PPV's fall under the WWF banner.

I think this will be a decision that the WWF regrets long before the PPV companies do.

But, I would just as soon they do the 4 interpromotional PPV's, and each side gets 4 of its own.

But, if Vince can make a buck...he'll try it.

I guess they could of raised the prices for PPV's to see if they could make some more money due to the money they lost without DirecTV airing WWF PPV's.

That sucks, if they do two rosters or whatever I think it should be two PPV's a month for 20 bucks each. With only one ppv when the RR, WM, and KOTR happen. I really don't want the split to happen though. They should just fire all the guys that don't have heat, aren't talented, and aren't part of a tag team. Keep the top guys like The Rock, keep up and coming talents like Benoit, and keep the tage teams (if they lose even one tag team right now then there won't be a tag team division period) like Chuck and Billy.

Guest The Vanilla Midget

actually, economically speaking the demand for wwf ppv's is probably highly elastic, and they would stand to make more money by actually lowering the price and attracting a larger audience.

Bring back the $19.99 IYH ppv's and keep the non Maina Big 5 $29.99 and have wm $34.99.
