RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 Anyway, I thought this past RAW was a pretty solid show with two great matches How was HBK/Angle "great". Even by TV match standards, it was pretty pedestrian. HBK tries to play mat wrestler early, then starts throwing disinterested chops. Angle goes on offense, then hits some big spots that ultimately don't mean anything. HBK makes his comeback, then Angle hits the anklelock (after working the back the whole match), which HBK sits in for an eternity until the nonsensical/crappy finish. Somebody point out the "greatness" in this match. Pointed.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 It maybe wasn't a great match, but it was certainly one with a lot of interest, especially with Angle being the new World Heavyweight Champion, and the long running Angle/HBK "feud". Just because a match doesn't end up being a five star classic, doesn't mean people don't tune in for it. As far as the argument that more people are starting to tune in because WM is getting closer, I don't think I really buy that. I mean, how many people do you honestly know that don't watch WWE for nine months, and then suddenly start watching "because Wrestlemania is coming up." Doesn't make sense. Caliban 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 You know, ratings have pretty much consistently been half a point up on last year for a couple of months now. More than that, if they can keep it above 4.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2006 If it was a PPV match, I wouldn't call it great. However, since it was the curtain jerk match of the night, because it was on free TV, and because of the backstory between the two as well as all other factors involved, then to me, it was great. You almost never see a match of that quality, especially in the past few months. It was perfect, and wasn't a great PPV match, but for a free TV match, it was great to me. It wasn't a MOTY or anything either, I'm not saying that.

If you placed the Shawn/Angle match from this week into the shows back then, people would call it a disapointment or a weak match. The fact Raw doesn't place any sort of emphasis on good free tv matches right now, allowed that below average match to stand out (although, I would say this match was a notch higher then the last two tries from these guys).
