Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 30, 2002 "Singer Dionne Warwick has criticised pop princess Britney Spears for becoming a role model for strippers. The 61-year-old legend, arrested at Miami airport this month for allegedly possessing marijuana, thinks that Britney's dance moves are too suggestive and degrading to women, and that she should set a better example to young children. Grandmother Dionne explains, "I don't really approve of the way our children are forced into being looked at as playboy bunnies. I think it's degrading. They're not being given an opportunity to develop into women. Britney would not be a role model. Not for my kids anyway." OOOOkayyy. So in other words, if you grow up and be a weed smoking person that gets paid by a corperation that targets the elderly(the Psyhic Friends network) and tries to take their money, thats fine...but don't dance on screen. This shiot makes me sick. Her pathetic ass is trying to get in the news saying something "positive" because she got caught with weed. What is the world coming to when a drug addict can call a (as far as we know) virgin a bad role model.
Guest MikeSharp12 Report post Posted May 30, 2002 Hang on a second there, tiger. I am a Britney basher by no-means, but your logic here is pretty skewed. For starters, Dionne Warwick got caught with pot -- big deal; that does not make her a drug addict. Second, I think everyone in the world knows that Britney is lying about being a virgin, and even if she is, she is still an equally bad role model because her entire "gimmick" is that of an underage babysitter trying to seduce old men. Finally, if you are going to believe that Britney is a virgin, then why don't you believe that Dionne had the weed for medical reasons?
Guest Mark4steamboat Report post Posted May 30, 2002 i totally agree. at walmart the other night, the people in the CDs and stuff were pulling her cds from the regualar selections and putting them behind the counter or in their own little section. they had around 20 of the Best of Dionne Warwick throughout the Rock/R&B section. You can like weed all you like, it is still illegal...it is still a crime. She was caught trying to hide weed at the freakin airport...but she is suppose to be a good role model. Um...maybe I missed something. Britney says she's a virgin, her boyfriend or ex or what ever says they haven't had sex...and nobody has claimed to have had sex with her...how am I naive for thinking that she MIGHT be telling the truth. What is your believing she isn't based on...the way she dances in a video. That some pretty fucked up basis to judge people that you're on. Dion Warwick is just another person on some holier than thou crusade. Britneys videos are tame compared to 90% of the other videos out there...but if Britney wears a cut off T, it is controversial...she is making our children strippers. More passing the buck just like society likes to do today. Britneys making strippers, video games making killers, rap is making kids kill each other....wow...what do parents suppose to do again? Her gimmick is WHAT??? this whole time I thought Her gimmick was sexy singer performer. When did the seducing old men come in??? I'm not even a Britney fan, but the girl gets some of the most unprovocted and unwarrented bashing that I've seen.

Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted May 31, 2002 Britney is a hypocrite first of all. She says she doesn't wear skanky like clothes, but yet, she does. She is a target to 12 year old girls, and when they turn older, they will still listen to her music. Brittney has subliminal messages, I mean if you have looked at her lyrics its not about girl power (thank god that was over), its about how females should be seductive towards their men. Don't worry, Brittney is a bang...In the gang variety. It is also not britney alone. Christina Aguilara, Jessica Simpson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Destiny's Child, etc... all follow the same trend of Britney Spears, even though they say they are doing not riding on each other's coattales. Hell there is no creativity in any music in the pop culture except for the rare few bands. (System of a Down, Tool, RHCP, Metallica). Pop punk is worse as it has ever been. Metal is at its worse in the pop scene since the late 80's when fake-metal bands aka One Hit Wonders were big, since every nu-metal song is on depression, or rebellion against my parents. . Rap is taking a vicious blow to the head talking about bling bling, ho's cash. Underground and lesser popular bands are the best to listen too. For Metal it would be like Pantera, Megadeth, Iron Maiden. Punk it would be Fugazi, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, and Rap would be Nas, Outkast, Jurassic 5, and A Tribe Called Quest. Thank god there are some people that actually listen to the old-skool stuff too, like Floyd and Zeppelin, Ramones, Clash, Run DMC...etc. Remember New Kids on the Block back in the 80's-90's? Where are they now?
Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 31, 2002 But this is what I don't get... i can watch Celine Dion where some shear, plunging neck line dress...thats fine...she's elegant then. The dixie chicks can wear some clevege exposing dresses...but thats fine. Britney wears some low cut jeans and a cut off T and she is a skanky hoe. It is a double standard. Britney dresses how 90% of girls in the club on the weekends dress, yet she is skanky.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 31, 2002 Britney is not skanky, slutty, or any other names you want to label her with. She is a normal 19 year old girl, pretty much the same as all the ones in my life that I know. Dionne Warwick is a jealous hag, who needs to hit the bong a little harder than she has been. Where are they now? Speaking of hip-hop, am I the only one tired of all the rap about bling-bling and hoes? I mean, the only reason we have this shit is because gangsta rap is considered too "violent" for middle America yet that was rap's soul. Hip-Hop was never meant to be played on radio. The whole reason rap music was born was that it was an alternative for black kids living in the ghetto who couldn't afford instruments. Now it seems like all rappers have forgot where they came from and you should never forget where you came from. But you know what makes me sick to my stomach? Rappers doing commercials. Rich white old corporate excuetives are using rappers as puppets to sell their products. That ain't rap. 2pac and Biggie are probalby rolling in their graves watching what rap has become. Thankfully, we have some artists out there who keep the spirit of rap alive like Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nas, De La Soul, The Roots, and Mos Def, and Nappy Roots, and DMX. I basicaly am annoyed by all the bling-bling hip-hop from artists like Jay-Z, Big Tymers, Ludacris, Juvenille, and the god-awful P. Diddy and that small, raw sounding motherfucker Ja Rule who should be the next MC Hammer for all his connections to the mainstream corporate world. I'm afraid to say it but rap may have souled out. Point well taken, but I do distinctly recall seeing Snoop in a Nike commercial with Parliament or Funkadelic or whatever quite recently. Does it make it any less evil if the commercial is fucking cool?

You are missing the boat my friend. Rap is about gimmicks and selling, not subject matter. It's all about what can sell. There are a million rappers who have talent but no record deals. It's all about what will sell. Why do you think Craig Mack has a deal again? His ass can't rap worth a damn, but Puff Daddy is hoping that people will be overcome with nostalgia and support Craig Mack. If he was great, why did his ass fall of the map? You talk about white corporate people using rappers in commercials. Who the hell do you think is controlling their music? I don't know if Tupac and Biggie would be rolling in their graves either. Tupac said that he couldn't knock the shiny suit stuff and the flashy stuff because he may want to do that some day. The subject matter of rap isn't neccesarily a point of contention for me, it's the talentless people and the attempt to crossover. Do you really think Ja Rule parties with white people in the suburbs? He was doing it in the Livin' it Up video. I don't know the guy, but I doubt he was ever into the suburban party scene. It's all about crossin over for a lot of rappers. I'm not saying that it doesn't sicken me, but I take more se to all of the untalented rappers that have record deals. Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted June 1, 2002 BTW, I think Dionne Warwick could have smuggled all the drugs she wanted in those huge nostrils of hers. She must have been snorting crack through a damn garden hose in the 70's.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted June 1, 2002 Well getting back to the topic of Brittney, I have heard and read that Brittney has claimed never to do drugs and never to have smoked a cigarette, and a couple of weeks later, she gets caught smoking. (I haven't heard anything about her doing drugs, so until she gets caught, I am not saying anything.) And also I heard that she joked how she liked being on top. Somehow I doubt that she was refering to tthe top of the pop charts. And I believe that she is no longer talking about her virginity, because it is my understanding that she can't keep a straight face when talks about this. So she is so full of it, IMO. Yes, she is a hottie, no doubt about it, but her music sucks plain and simple. And I think that you say something, then do it. Practice what you preach. Obviously she doesn't, so that means she is leaving herself open to be bashed.

That is why I hate Ja Rule so much. He is trying all he can to cross over to middle America by doing all those duets. Ja Rule was cool back when he was on his own circa 1998-2000. Now, he seems like a puppet.

Woah, let's not put Ludacris in the same category as Jay-Z, Cash Money and P. Diddy. His talents may not match those of Eminem, Outkast or such, but his latest cd does not cater to the popular mainstream, besides "Roll-Out" and "Hard Times". His catchy beats and thoughtful lyrics are pretty sweet. He also keeps the "bling-bling" stuff to a minimum, which is also a plus. IMO, Nappy Roots, DMX, Ludacris and Nas should be lumped together in a section under the other talents, but above those "fucking posers" (Thanks Pharrell Williams...). (I'm obviously a Ludacris fan, right?)
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted June 2, 2002 I ain't disagreeing with what everyone has said about Ja-Rule, but he has stated his proposed dream is to become a full-time actor, which he will pursue after his next and final album, due out in the Fall. Maybe becoming that P.Diddy-like "Middle America rapper" is only to have him get accustomed to the "HYPE" mindset and allow him some interesting roles.
