Guest Black Tiger Posted May 30, 2002 Report Posted May 30, 2002 I just got done watching NOAH for the first time. These are some of my first impressions. I watched their first show (8/5/00) and Great Voyage. The matches were mostly okay, but its a lot like AJPW when the top of the card saves the show. The bright green ring mat is distracting What is the deal with the pyro and strobe lights, it detracts from the wrestling and is a pain in the ass to look at. Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me? I'll probably get the GHC and GHC Tag tournaments, and the show when Akiyama wins GHC but I don't see getting anything else after that unless someone can reccomend me some good stuff.
Guest J*ingus Posted May 30, 2002 Report Posted May 30, 2002 Highspots has a "Best Of GHC Title" tape with the semis & finals of the tournaments, all the title changes, and a couple of successful defenses, all full & unclipped (mostly stuff with Misawa & Akiyuma).
Guest wolverine Posted May 30, 2002 Report Posted May 30, 2002 "and the show when Akiyama wins GHC" YUCK!!!!
Guest Stuart Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 The two NOAH shows I'd heavily recommend are 12/9/01 (Marufuji vs. Takaiwa-my 2001 #2 MOTY, Vader vs. Akiyama-underrated match IMO, just a horrible lack of heat, couple of solid undercard matches with Ikeda, Sano, etc.) and 2/17/02 Budokan (Liger/Inoue vs. Kikuchi/Kanemaru, No Fear vs. Wild II, Juventud vs. Marufuji, Misawa/Kobashi vs. Akiyama/Nagata). Also, if you can get your hands on it, the Akiyama/Saito/Shiga/Kanemaru vs. Misawa/Ogawa/Sano/Marufuji 26 minute sprint from the 8/15/01 NTV/Samurai TV taping was excellent, and the similar Elimination Match from this January also looked very good.
Guest Black Tiger Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 Does anyone agree about the ring mat and Pyro? I wasn't ONLY looking for reccomendations.
Guest Joshi Guerrero Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 I like the mat, and the pyro, I find NOAH's tv look/style to be my fave out of the major leagues in japan.
Guest wolverine Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 It's too bad that AJW lost their TV deal with Fuji, because when they had those tapings at the outdoor TV studios, the production values were awesome.
Guest Joshi Guerrero Posted June 7, 2002 Report Posted June 7, 2002 Ohh yeah, those were great. Most joshi kicks the arse of men's puro production wise. I love GAEA's big entrance and ramp setup. And for some reason I really enjoy EMLL's early 90's style screen graphics and fades.
