Shaun of the Dead

Recommended Posts

Yeah, it does. Especially the "we don't negotiate with terrorists" line. But you have to at least give credit to Romero for still using zombies and gore as symbolism rather than the focal point. Night was about racism, Dawn was about the consumer mentality, Day had the whole anti-militaristic stance, and Land is a decent little satire of government (especially how the man in charge didn't BUILD the place but merely took it over and kept the best for himself).

That...and I never noticed until I listened to Romero's commentary how the cage sequence was his parody of extreme sports.

Shaun is funny and it has a Tekken reference!

Andrew, since when did you like Land? Every time I complain about it you seem to agree. It's weak. There's nothing interesting or exciting, it's not scary or funny. The pacing is horrible. They spend so much time on that Dead Reckoning truck by the time they are done with that and back in the city it just kinda ends randomly. The "symbolism" is so lame. It's so blatant and it's not at all deep or thought provoking. It was fun to watch once because...it's a zombie movie. I would never watch it again though.

The SotD Tekken reference is nothing compared to Spaced. They actually have them matted into the game footage (not seen the show but saw screencaps).

I was previously lukewarm at best, but I never thought it was absolutely terrible like you always said. However, it didn't meet up with my expectations, but now that I don't have those to get in the way, it's a decent zombie movie, with several cool moments and a good cast.

Bingo. I tried it for a second time on the DVD and I can like it a lot more. I see some cool things I missed the first time. It's never going to be a classic but it's not terrible.

You're such a hypocrite, though. How many times have you gushed over a game that was total crap, but had 2-3 cool things that you'd dwell on?

Of course, at times it is difficult to tell when you're being sarcastic.

I actually like LAND OF THE DEAD, but the character development that Romero usually excels at was VERY weak in this installment. I guess cause he was doing more to establish the zombies now that they are the majority and the humans are the minority.

It took my third viewing of LAND to figure out where Simon and Edgar were.

It's not really TERRIBLE. I don't regret going to see it. It's just not that great. It'd be hard to make a terrible zombie movie.

Like what? I can think of MK Mythologies and maybe the other MK games but that's it and I quit gushing over them. I gush over most things I like though. I'm easily excitable!

Like what?

FFX-2 and your occasional tendency to defend War Gods comes to mind. :P

First time, here. I picked out Simon immediately despite the makeup. Of course, the makeup and lighting could really throw you off. Plus, Edgar didn't have any major acting roles (he did a few cameos on screen) in Shaun, so if he was by himself I wouldn't have picked him out either.

I don't actually like War Gods though. It's like how you like bad movies.

FF X-2 is good! It's not as good as the regular FF games but it's still good.
