Is there going to be an Ironman movie?

Recommended Posts

I could see Matt Damon playing Steve Rogers/Captain America. That is if you want a star playing the role.

Otherwise, take a lesser known name of someone muscular and blond and see if they can act the part.

If you want a man that could look the part of Captain America I proudly give you Howie Long. Plus he acted in Firestorm so he has acting experience.

Iron Man news from Superherohype.com:

Iron Man Claims First Weekend of May, '08

Source: Paramount Pictures

June 22, 2006

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment will kick off the 2008 summer movie-going season on May 2nd with Iron Man, the first motion picture to be produced by Marvel under its alliance with Paramount, it was announced today by Rob Moore, President, Worldwide Marketing, Distribution, and Operations, Paramount Pictures; Michael Helfant, President and COO, Marvel Studios; and Kevin Feige, president of production for Marvel Studios. Marvel Studios is a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. Jon Favreau will direct the film, based on Marvel's best-selling "Iron Man" comic book character.

The Iron Man film will be produced by Avi Arad, creative advisor to Marvel Studios, and Kevin Feige. Executive producers are Ari Arad, Favreau and Louis D'Esposito. This project, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, is expected to be financed through Marvel's $525 million revolving film financing facility and distributed under Marvel's overall distribution arrangement with Paramount. Iron Man will mark the first production under Arad's newly launched production company, Avi Arad Productions.

Commenting on the announcement, Helfant said, "We're very excited to lock down the release date for 'Iron Man,' Marvel's first independently produced feature film. We couldn't have asked for a better partner than Paramount to work with on this very powerful character franchise."

Feige added, "We're thrilled to be launching the summer 2008 movie season with 'Iron Man.' Marvel has had great success with the first Friday in May -- 'Spider-Man' broke records on that first Friday and 'X2' debuted at the top of the box office charts as well. We're looking forward to extending that track record with 'Iron Man' and are extremely pleased with the progress of the script, the production team we are forming and the initial production designs."

Moore said, "Marvel is one of our most important partners and 'Iron Man' is one of their premier heroes. We're thrilled to be launching our relationship -- and the summer season in 2008 -- with this movie."

Based upon Marvel's iconic Super Hero, the film will follow billionaire weapons-manufacturer, Tony Stark, who confronts the sins of his past after he is injured by one of his own weapons. Equipped with a high-tech suit of armor, he becomes Iron Man to combat evil on a global scale.

Jon Favreau on Iron Man

MTV talked to Iron Man director Jon Favreau, who gave some interesting quotes. Here are a few of them about the movie:

"It's the first movie Marvel is self-financing," he said of a new deal that frees the makers of the "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" movies from studio control. "We're set to come out in the summer of '08, and we'll start shooting in January."

"We're gonna have it take place in the present day, but there will be an origin story that has the old, gray Iron Man suit; eventually it will progress into more of the modern look," Favreau said. "That's the fun of doing the first one."

"The alcoholism doesn't come into play until later on in the story of Iron Man," he said. "[The comic] started off in the '60s, where it was about him as a successful manufacturer who developed this suit. Then, later, it spins off into that story about him fighting against himself. I think we're going to lay the groundwork for it, but the first one's going to explore him taking on this alter ego of Iron Man, and developing the suit, and what happens politically within the Stark Corporation."

Mentioning an eventual "Iron Man 2," Favreau said that actor playing Tony Stark for his franchise is unlikely to be a major star (Tom Cruise was briefly attached to the role years ago). Instead, the director hopes to announce his discovery of a relative unknown from the Brandon Routh ("Superman Returns") mold later this year.

Favreau on the Iron Man Movie

ifMagazine.com talked to Iron Man director Jon Favreau, who revealed what kind of story they are going with. Here's a clip:

You are never going to have complete reality in a super hero movie, but he's not someone who was hit over the head and became a superhero. He's somebody through technology and his intellect creates this super persona. It makes it easier to set the film in the real world. There's a whole geopolitical aspect to film that it's going to be a tightrope to walk. You want to make it specific enough for our times, but not so specific that it isn't a comic book movie. I think it's the most true to life comic book certainly in the Marvel Universe.

The teaser poster for the Iron man movie was released a Comic Con.

According to Favreau, the suit design in the poster is not the final one in the movie. Iron Man's suit design is being done the guy who did Robocop's suit. Should be awesome.

Joe Quesada said he's banking on Iron Man being the best superhero movie ever at the Comicon on GTV (?) in an interveiw earlier today.

He loves the Spider-Man movies, but he's looking forward to Iron Man more then Spider-Man 3, and thinks it will do better business.

I'm looking forward to it.

They also anounced a Hulk sequal with a different director.
