Matt Young Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 untitled.bmpI played chess for the first time in years tonight, and made a huge comeback against my cousin. As soon as I got into a checkmate position, the game was automatically declared a draw. Is there some sort of time limit or something? I mean, fuck!
Carnival Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Hey everyone! I know how to do screen caps now!
sfaJack Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Based on that picture, any move your cousin might make with his king would result in checkmate. IIRC, the game is a stalemate when that happens because you're not allowed to move into a checkmate. "Suicide" of the king = illegal, in chess.
Red Baron Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 sfa is right. Its a draw because you cornered him into a stalemate, and not gone for the checkmate instead.
CanadianChris Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Yup. If a player has no legal moves, and it's not checkmate, the game is a draw. MATT SCREWED MATT

Matt Young Posted February 16, 2006 Author Report Posted February 16, 2006 Well, fuck. Thanks for explaining things to me, anyway.
PLAGIARISM! Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Oh well, 'Fuck Yahoo Chess!' made me laugh for some reason.
CanadianChris Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 ?? in a chess transcription is one of the funniest things I see in print. It's basically a license for someone to say, "WTF were you thinking there??"
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 *Takes screen capture* Priceless
