Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 31, 2002 what are some of the balks of the "showcase of the immortals" and the reasons behind them, and were they good decisions? WM4 - dibiase was going to get the belt. So Honkey wont drop the ic belt, and that changes Dibiase getting the win over Hogan and causes the whole Main Event NBC angle to have Savage win the belt. Thumbs up. the world wasnt ready for a heel victory and the Main Event was a mark moment. WM6- Hogan vs Zeus cmon, thumbs way up. Hogan - Warrior is one of the best. The wwf just came to their senses and relaized the 10 people who saw NHBarred might not equate to a huge buyrate. WM8 - Hogan vs . Flair im a little hazy as to why it was dropped, but I think it had something to do with the steroids or a hogan vacation? (any help?). While Hogan - Savage was great, it could have been saved for summerslam. thumbs down (begrudgingly) WMX - Luger beats Yoko for the belt. So the money invested in Luger was supposed to culminate with a Summerslam rematch of Lex- Yoko with Lex going over and finally becoming the next Hogan. they could sense any gain they had on luger was fading and decided to test the waters for Bret over Lex by the infamous Rimble ending. they gauged the crowd reaction when each was declared the winner and changed their minds. huge thumbs up. we get Bret- Owen ***** and bret walks out with the belt. WM13 - the shawn- bret rematch. shawn returns the job. I -yi -yi, where to begin. Shawn loses his smile, Vince panics and goes to the big men in Sid - Taker. a tough call.. we get Austin - Bret but we also get Taker- Sid. Ill go thumbs up slightly..we should have had the rematch. we did get it at survivor 97, and we know what that led to... WM2000 - Austin - Taker or Rock - HHH very early after WM15 the torch and others reported the working plan was to build to Austin - Taker. injuries derailed that through the year (thank goodness). The plan then became HHH vs Rock. the 4 way am about to add that mcmahon element that Vince was convinced drove buyrates. Thumbs down to the 4 way that resulted. was it a neat little selling point to have a mcmahon in every corner? sure! but use it at No Way Out and have the two foley classics at the rumble and armaggeddon (like vince- hhh coulnt have been on raw?). HHH and Rock should have had their time in the spotlight by themselves, with Rock going over. Even HHH will admit the 4 way was a bad idea. WMX8 - Austin - Rock III or Austin - HHH ill glaze over the R-A 3 as that was just thrown out and was never firmly committed to. it was a bad idea as the same guys in their thrid WM event against each other would have been too much. HHH - Austin was a firm plan until HHH's injusry threw that up in the air. That itself would have been great based of of their no way out 3stages match. They might have been able to go back to it when HHH cam back, but unfortunately the heel austin character, and the invasion, fell apart, then the nwo signing switched up things altogether. thumbs in the middle. I loved Rock - Hogan, and Jericho's heel run, but HHH and Austin could have had a great one. as an aside, around the time of the brainstorming of the split, the idea was to go with Rock - Austin at WMx9. any thoughts , opinions, additional info , or others you heard of? Guest EI Cubano Report post Posted May 31, 2002 Wrestelmania VI was tentatively going to be Mr. Perfect v. Hulk Hogan but when WWF officials and Hogan in particular didn't feel that Hennig was a big enough name, the trigger was pulled on "The Ultimate Challenge". Wrestlemania VIII's main event didn't go down as Flair vs. Hogan for two reasons. 1) Hogan was leaving after Wrestlemania VIII to "retire" and didn't want to job in his last match. 2) The WWF refused to put Flair over Hogan because they thought it would be saying that the NWA truly was a better promotion than the WWF. They also couldn't put Hogan over Flair because he would retire with the title and damage Flair whom the company needed in Hogan's absence. Wrestlemania X: The results of putting Luger over were actually solidified until the day before WM when Luger got drunk and blabbed the outcome to the local media at a bar the night before. Vince was the only member of the writing team who wouldn't to put Luger over and the decision was finally changed as a result of Luger's big mouth.

Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 31, 2002 Lex Luger = Big Dope. It serves him right for blabbing like that. I can just imagine the day he showed up for WMX he was no doubt excited and imagining himself with the belt. Then Vince goes "Uh...Lex I need to talk to you". D'oh! Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 31, 2002 lol. luger still went out and did the job like a trooper though. he probably could have walked back into the wcw if he wanted to.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted June 1, 2002 Wasn't Bret supposed to win anyways? They just changed the results of the Luger/Yoko match as punishment. It didn't matter too much since neither Yoko nor Luger was going to leave as champ anyways. If Luger was supposed to leave as champ, I assume Bret would have beaten Owen. Why would they job Bret twice in the same night?

It was a screwjob. Luger didn't job. He got DQd for touching Mr. Perfect.

Why would they job Bret twice in the same night? IIRC, Luger was only going to be a hour long WWF Champion. He would of dropped the title to Bret in the second match. I assume this could of started a Luger heel turn. Luger's original WWF gimmick, "The Narcissist" was great, IMO. Probably because he was like that in real life. Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 6, 2002 Show- Austin's match before WMXV was pretty good (granted Show was in pseudo better shape then and all). But show from his wwf title era ? ***shudder***
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 6, 2002 that was ugly. his title defence against the big bossman at armageddon in 99 was a new low I think.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 7, 2002 If I recall, didn't Show's contract state that he'd main event WM2000? If that was the case, The four way was the right thing to due since nothing else made sense, although they could have had his match called a "Double Main Event". I still think HHH and Rock got screwed here, It should have been advertised at Rock Vs HHH for the World Title, The McMahon's could have stayed as Vince Vs Stephanie if they wished, Since that what it was. TBS lasted 6 minutes and foley was gone 14 minutes into it, Rock-HHH was about 15-25 minutes together. Perfect-Hogan would have selled as much as Warrior/Hogan did, although Perfect should have fought Hogan or Warrior at Summer Slam. Ted Dibiase deserved the title, just not at WM, should have beaten Savage for it at Summer Slam, have Savage win it back at Survivor Series thanks to Hogan's repeat interference and that still would have allowed for Mega-Powers explode. Luger was stupid and deserved to be jobbed out...notice his career in WWF went nowheresville after that? He soon fueded with Takatana in a Mid-Card fued and teamed with Bulldog in a tag team. I still wonder if Micheals never lost his smile, Would Austin ever broke out like he did? Maybe this was a good thing.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted June 7, 2002 In WCW that Kiss Demon guy had something in his contract that said he had to main event a PPV or something so at Superbrawl 2000 a squash against the Wall was billed as a "main event" match. They could've done the same thing.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted June 7, 2002 OMG that Demon thing was so bad. Gene Simmons had that put in the contract. two matches into the ppv and the announcers start going into overdrive about THE SPECIAL MAIN EVENT. lol. who did he fight, Norman Smiley? Im going to have to pull the tape fro a good laugh at the ridiculous shilling.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted June 7, 2002 Norman fought 3 Count and lost. KISS Demon fought Wall and lost. At Uncensoreds Norman and Demon actually teamed up. Yes I am sad.
Guest Jericholic82 Report post Posted June 12, 2002 I heard that after WM 4 was changed to Savage winning, the original plan for Summerslam was Savage vs Dibiase, but Hogan wouldn't let Savage get the spotlight again so they changed it to the tag team match of Megapowers vs Megabucks instead. btw, In Foley is Good, Mick indeed states that the original plan for Wm 2000 was Austin vs Show, they wanted that from the minute they signed show. SO they turned him face at wm 15 so he and austin could sepearate for a year. Although that match would be worse then the 4-way, at least we would have had a clean ending without mucho Mcmahon-terference. another note, foley also said in FIG that Vince wanted Mankind vs Austin vs Rock for WM 15 (which is why Mick didnt drop the title at Valentine's Day Massacre). But Shawn Michaels of all people started complaining the next night at RAW that the wm main had to be one on one for tradition's sake. Ironically, shawn wanted to keep mick in the match vs austin. but they had rock win the belt from mick in a ladder match on that 2/15/99 edition of RAW That story confuses me, becuase why would Shawn be able to dictate main events. something tells me mick didn't tell the full story here and that's all I have to say about that. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 12, 2002 At Uncensoreds Norman and Demon actually teamed up. Yes I am sad. ha ha, i remember that match. the demon walked out from the back as his coffin was being raised and then norman stepped out of it dressed in a kiss t-shirt and wearing kiss makeup. they took on xs (lodi and lenny) in a crappy match and I know that Miss Hancock even did the big wiggle to Norman. Guest alfdogg Report post Posted June 13, 2002 ACTUALLY... The ORIGINAL plan for WM10 was Lex going over Ludvig Borga in the ME. a) Taker was to win the title at RR94, because... b) Yoko was supposed to take time of to lose weight. c) Taker would then drop the belt to Borga sometime in between and then take off due to back problems. but... a) Taker's back got much worse, to the point where he needed time off immediately. b) Yoko didn't listen to the doctors and stuck around. c) Borga broke his ankle in either the MSG Royal Rumble or a match with Rick Steiner, and it was so bad that he never wrestled in the WWF again. d) Therefore, they went with Bret, since he got screwed out of a title shot that he was supposed to have against Hogan at the previous SummerSlam. Guest Report post Posted June 13, 2002 I heard at one point, Foley was hoping for a Cactus Jack - Steve Austin Main Event for Wrestlemania 17 as his farewell match. I also heard that Vince had the idea of a 3-way for the title at WM XV, with Rock, Austin and Mankind, but was later convinced by Shawn Michaels that the main event for 'Mania should always be a one-on-one. Later Shawn told Foley that he had actually wanted Foley to be one of the two (I guess it's that old kliq hatred of the Rock).

Guest Report post Posted June 15, 2002 Perfect-Hogan would have selled as much as Warrior/Hogan did Um, I don't think so. Warrior vs. Hogan was THE match at the time. Top 2 babyfaces against each other. 2 guys who never would lose against each other. At that time, I'd have to say it was the biggest match in history. Perfect would have had to smash a few more belts with hammers I think to reach that level.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 17, 2002 while perfect was a heat machine back then, Warrior/Hogan was the matchup of all matchups. while it would have been a lot more cooler for all of us if Perfect had taken on Hogan was WM6 and won the title it was too earlier in his career and the wwf had a match on it's hands that it simply couldn't pass up.
