With the lack of a books/literature/whatever folder, should this one be used to talk about scifi/fantasy as well as comics?

Seems like the most likely place to find other people willing to discuss it.

I hardly ever went into the books section of the old board, but if people want to discuss books in here, that would be cool with me. It doesn't have to be just sci-fi/fantasy (after all, Greg Rucka also writes crime-type novels) but we should keep it fiction-only. If people want to talk about "Pure Dynamite" or "Foley is Good", they can do it in the WWF folder.

Agreed.  I've just always found that the people I talk comics with are generally the same I talk about what scifi/fantasy books I read or hated.

A lot of audience overlap, if you will.

That, and I like having a place where I can make fun of Anne Rice and David Eddings.

212, I completely agree with you.

The WWF fanboys can take it to the WWF folder if they want to talk about the wrestling books.

But besides that, I'm cool with the idea.

And the masses (all of three of them) have spoken.

I doubt I will do it very often, but its just nice to know there is somewhere I can vent a spleen about sci/fi-fantasy type books.

And I never thought I'd get into a discussion about Middle Eastern/American politics on a wrestling board...but I did. :)

The question is, would you talk about stuff like Star Wars here?  By that I mean that maybe you talk about Eps 1-6 in the TV/Movies forum and talk about the books like X-Wing and the new Jedi order here.

And I second AC212's recommendation for crime fiction.  I just started to get into Elmore Leonard's novels and wouldn't mind discussing them.  Rucka I'll have to give a try.

Movies/tv have their own forum.

Star Wars novels?  Sure.  I've never actually read one, but people have told me that some of them range from passable to pretty good.

Star Wars discussions?

Those usually turn into giant flame threads that never get resolved and usually just wastes everyone's time.

BUT...

I'm willing to give it a try.

Absolutely true.  If you're gonna read anything, read Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy" (considered to be the unofficial eps 7-9) and "Hand of Thawn" Duology and the New Jedi Order series.

And Sassquatch, wrt flamewars, I'll probably avoid them, unless someone starts a "Rob Liefeld is a genius" thread...

Yep, the Zahn books (which pretty much kicked off the new batch of Star Wars novels) were all pretty good. I haven't read any of the later ones, though, except Shadows of the Empire, which I enjoyed too. Supposedly, the comic version of Shadows covered the "other side of the story", which was only briefly covered in the novel. I didn't manage to catch it, though.

Rob Liefeld is a genius.

He's convinced an entire industry to pay him big money to do crap work.  That takes some thinking.

a lot of the star wars books are pretty good.  the zahn ones are *awesome,* and the x-wing series ones are also very readable.
