Rick Martel debuts in WCW, 1998 vs B. Armstrong

http://youtube.com/watch?v=bhlJQpy_JNo&feature=related

remember his quick tv title push? weird to see him years past his prime, getting a mini push and looking quite good in the ring actually. too bad he got hurt so quick

I'm a big Martel mark, he's one of my all-time favorite wrestlers. I enjoyed his brief WCW run and loved it when he became TV champ. I've heard a rumor that at SuperBrawl where he suffered his career ending injury he was originally supposed to beat Booker T and Saturn in that gauntlet match (which Booker ended up winning). Is that true?

I'll post a Sting and Ric Flair post seperately later, but decided to post their matches together here. I know I missed a few here and there such as the Black Scorpion match and Sting winning the Presidency of WCW from Flair, but these are pretty much the essential matches of the near 12 year Rivalry.

Wow by reading Foley's description I was expecting Undertaker vs El Gigante levels of bad. That wasn't bad at all. Just a plain mid-card match.

The infamous Cactus Jack Vs Mil Mascaras match from Clash of The Champions X (mentioned extensively in Have A Nice Day)

gotta love cornette saying mascaras "set the indoor record for most hiptosses"

I think foley was more pissed that he was treated as a jobber for a guy who wasnt even a wcw regular (they brought him in cuz they were in the texas border towns he said in the book, but the crowd seems like they could give a rats ass about mascaras)

damn that was a sick bump by cactus, how in the hell was he not knocked out by the impact on his head?

cornette really tried to put over cactus here, talking about how no human being should be able to get up after that fall and hes the real winner here

I'm sorry, but Sapp is such a worthless piece of shit. I know the guy got over HUGE in Japan, but I don't know how. He's an atrocious wrestler, moving in slo mo all the time, he sucked at MMA, and absolutely stunk in K-1 also. You'd think a guy that was 350 lbs of pure muscle and a former NFL player would actually be good at something.

Owen winning the WWF Championship

Thanks for posting that. That was from my first live show way back in July of '94. That match and the Lex Luger-Fake Undertaker dark match main event are the only two matches on the four hour taping that I remember (What can I say I was 6 at the time?).

This has to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

The morton downey Jr show with some wrestlers trying their best to protect the business. Dr D was so funny, I'm shocked he didn't make it bigger than he did. He is like a Steve Austin of the time but even more over the top. (Can't imagine Austin ever acting like this outside of the business). He was fired after slapping the shit out of that reporter twice and one has to wonder if that didn't happen how far he would have gone. Part 3 he goes way over the top and throws water in the face of wilson. He treated wilson like shit and made some rather dumb comments toward thunderbolt/blacks. But its hard to tell if he is just playing his character or what. You certainly get the impression he was a bigot but aside from that My god this man was fucking awesome

But watching this brings back some memories of how wrestlers used to protect the business at all costs. Compare that with today where no one pretends its "real". The yelling and screaming by all involved was just fucking hilarious though.

Here is part one and of course the other parts are to the right. Pure gold.
