Guest Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 You know those shows on The Disney Channel and MTV that have the stereotypicle kids on them. Real kids don't act like that. They curse (for their insecurity), make fun of other people clothes, act like wiggers etc. What are your views on this?
Guest Karnage Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 You mean like The Amanda Show or something? That has to be one of the worst sketch "comedy" shows I have ever seen.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 I think those shows try to present kids as they think they should be, not the way they are. My brother used to watch those shows until I made him turn them off. I don't know what the hell he watches now. Could be porn for all I know.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 As much as I love my Saved By The Bell and others, they were meant to be funny and "out there". I'd say the best "kids" show that dealt with how kids probably really act was Boy Meets World. (At least the first few seasons. It got bad towards the end.)
Guest Karnage Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 Speaking of Boy Meets World, does TGIF even exist anymore? I stopped watching after Family Matters went to CBS and then mysteriously dissapeared.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 Jeesy Creesy Amanda show was bad. It's like she's trying to do the goofy stuff that was on that couple of episodes of All That that were good, but it all just falls over it's own feet and ends up being a pile of crap.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 In all honesty South Park is the truest show as far as 4th grade boys go... They can't make an honest show about how kids really are...for one it would be boring...and two it would be too risky for tv...every kid doesn't live like "Full House" or "Saved by the Bell" Kids are real bastards
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 Well, its not a show but... The Wizard. Yeah, with Fred Savage. The kid is like 11 yet can somehow probe the depths of mankind and see things that the dopey adults can't... But the moral message of the film is still classic.. 'Nintendo brings families together'
Guest godthedog Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 i think 'the wonder years' did the best in capturing what growing up really felt like. the truest movie about kids is and probably will always be 'welcome to the dollhouse'. the best teenagers-coming-of-age movie ever is easily 'the last picture show'. that movie gets it fucking RIGHT.
Guest TheDames7 Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 The way the kids talk on Dawson's Creek is WAY too sophisticated. Dames
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 I hate that Now What show on MTV. Nothing like the High school I went to.
Guest Anorak Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 No young people talk or act like characters do in shows like Boy Meets World, Dawson's Creek and Buffy. BMW and DC are particularly bad because they are often self-righteous and patronising in the way they try to 'evaluate' lifes issues. Buffy isn't quite like that but i still find the post-ironic speech the characters indulge in almost equally tiresome.
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 Now What is kinda cool but people my age dont act like that either. It has some of the lamest jokes though. The Amanda Show is hardly watched by the demographic there looking for anymore. When i was 8-9, i liked All That but im not sure that is even on anymore.
Guest Invader3k Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 MTV sucks...it's a cable channel dedicated to turning kids into materialist whores.
Guest Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 I think Now What is the best show on MTV right now. But does anyone actually sit there and watch Lizzie McGuire. I do just to laugh at it cause its just not real.
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 I try to stay away from teen shows that dont have a laughbox. Theyre usually not funny.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 I don't watch MTV... what's "Now What"? As for kids not acting like real kids on TV, that's because in real life kids are brats! They use "gay" as an adjective for something they don't like (negative reinforcement), and are just homophobic in general (or is that just American kids?). Not to mention their love of toilet humor, and hatred of bathing... Would you really want to see that? Kids themselves don't even want to see that.
Guest Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 I would like to see a mini series of my school. Have cameras all around the school. See wiggers try to act cool. Now that would be funny.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 I really hate to say it, cause I hate MTV...but Now What is pretty damn funny. I watched one episode of Dawsons Creek...teens cannot put together such sentences...and sure, Buffy is over the top with the talking, but the drama, comedy, and action are great.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 The fact that South Park comes closer to how I acted in 4TH GRADE than every other teen-show does to how I act now...damn. They made fun of these "pretty white kids with problems" shows on MadTV once. Hell, the parody show was CALLED Pretty White Kids With Problems. PWKWP should be an actual show, man...just to see Will Sasso as the jealous, dumb, 'roided-up jock with dyslexia. And, for the record, I like Now What simply because it's stupid as all fuck. It's still no Beavis & Butthead... Speaking of Beavis & Butthead, remember Daria? That show cames close to how people act in high school. My high school, anyways. Just throw in lots of potheads and underage-alcoholics, and you got my school to a T. Oh yes...and tons and tons of politically incorrect jokes.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 Ahhh, kids are idiots. So far teenagers are even bigger idiots, though...
Guest Vyce Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 I gladfully admit to watching Even Stevens. I couldn't tell you the plot to one single episode, though; I just watch cause I want to do awful, terrible, unspeakably filthy sexual things to Christy Romano.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 Wren Stevens is so much hotter (and perfect) though. Also in regards to "Even Stevens", doesn't the brother in Jeepers Creepers look a LOT like Gordo, or is it just me? I still don't know what the hell "Now What" is about.
