Undercover brother

Well, I saw Undercover Brother tonight, and I actually liked it. I'm usually not a fan of these kind of comedies, but I enjoyed it more than most, and found it funnier and smarter than I expected.

As is the case in these movies, some parts are so stupid, they aren't funny and you want to roll your eyes, but some parts were funny, and some were extremely funny. My eyes were watering at certain moments. I really like Eddie Griffin, although he hasn't made any movies I enjoyed that much, this was a good vehicle for him. I can see a sequel in the future, and Undercover Brother being a "black Austin Powers" kind of deal.

Anyway, not bad. If you like silly comedies, you may want to check it out.

I'm surprised to hear a good review about this one from anybody. I'm sorry, the previews I've seen of it make it look absolutely retarded. It looks like a cross between "Austin Powers", "Scary Movie", and every stupid black comedy to come out in the last ten years. Maybe when I was in high school I would've wanted to see it...but now...no.

It got 74% at RottenTomatoes.com, so the critics seem to like it a lot, which even suprised me. It's not a gross out comedy like Scary Movie, and it's smarter than the average "goofy" comedy.

I just saw it today, and although it was MUCH better than I thought it would be, it was still wildly inconsistent.  Also, I had no idea there would be so much racial humor, but it's OK because it's against white people, right? :P

Also, the surprise with Lance when they're escaping The Man's compound was totally unexpected and very enjoyable, and I probably already posted a fat enough spoiler by even mentioning it, but that's probably my favorite part of the movie.  Without going all the way and spoiling it, everyone else who's seen the film should know what scene I'm talking about.

Also, I hate to say it, but the intro of the film wasn't laugh-out-loud funny, but very ironic funny seeing as how it's true.

Funny ass movie.

So I guess all of the stuff about black people in the movie was true?

The Fried Chicken commercial was pretty accurate as well. That commercial was something that I always complain about to anyone who will listen. How come every commercial with black people in it or targeted at black people has to involve singing, dancing and ebonics?

I just saw it and here are my thoughts:

-Funny as Hell, but not for the reasons I thought it would be. While the mock blackploition of the whole film was funny as hell, I think the best thing about it was the running gag that all the white people wanna be black.

-Neil Patrick Harris and Dave Chappelle stole the film. Eddie Griffin, who was extemely funny, had nothing on these two. I espeically like the whole vice versa of NPH being hired because of affirmative action. Like was said: Gold.

- The Shower scene. Laughed my ass off. Nuff' Said.

- Denise Richards put in a pretty good performance better than the last couple movies she has been in.

- Mr. Feathers was...odd.

Overall I was extremely happy.

Yea, I was cracking up at the affirmative action line too :)

Like some have said, it was pretty much a Black Austin Powers, which isn't a bad thing. The dumb jokes were dumb enough to where you might imagine that they were written dumb on purpose. And I agree that Dave Chappelle held the movie together.

I didn't think it was a black Austin Powers movie, I just thought it was hilarious movie with a lot funny stuff in it. The jokes in Undercover Brother played on a lot of racial stereotypes and myths, while Austin Powers doesn't really do that alot.

I though Undercover Brother was a very funny movie, not as good as say a Wayans Brothers movie but pretty damn close.  The movie continues to parody the blaxotation films of the 70s, in good taste, very much as "I'm gonna get you Sucka or Don't drink your juice while your in South Central" has done in the past.

I loved the Bruce Lee jokes, and nearly died laughing when Sister Girl said Bruce LeeRoy!!!!!!!

I agree... Undercover Brother was a parody of many racial stereotypes (of both both blacks and whites), and though there were some slick tributes to the blaxploitation style, it's actually far from a straight-blaxploitation parody the way I remember it being advertised.

Austin Powers, on the other hand, is a straight-spy parody.  Not much else to it... I actually didn't even like it or its sequel that much.

The music placement was done to near perfection!!!

Nsyc boybandish music during the Clockwork Orange scene

Michael Jackson during the roof top fight between Mr Feather and Undercover Brother

Jungle Boogie in the car chase scene

I thought the movie was gonna be shit, but given a choice between Scooby Doo and Undercover Brother I figured "lesser of two evils" but wow oh wow was I wrong. I could not believe how good this movie was. You've got ..soul! And the soundtrack was great too with all that 70's funk, my only complaint was they play all that funk, but forget to use flashlight? (but oh well, i was more then satisfied when Brick house hit)
