Guest SavageRulz Report post Posted March 2, 2006 Days after celebrating his 26th birthday, Shinsuke Nakamura today called a press conference with vice-president Naoki Sugehayashi (left) to announce an indefinite overseas learning excursion. Sugehayashi said the purpose of this expedition is to give Nakamura the opportunity to experience many things and grow as a wrestler. He wants Nakamura to become a wrestler of "Global Standard" (the big motto being used in New Japan nowadays), one accepted around the world and worthy of standing side by side with Brock Lesnar. He will head to the L.A. Dojo first, but Sugehayashi said Nakamura may travel to all corners of the planet. He wants Shinsuke to gather up belts from around the world and bring them home. He apologized to fans who expected Nakamura to appear on the next tour, and said Nakamura's last appearance will be at the "ikemen" event held on 3/3, where he and Tanahashi will represent New Japan. He said Nakamura will return to the New Japan ring when he has grown large in all respects. Nakamura said the company had been talking to him about an overseas excursion since the start of the year, but there was the matter of timing to consider. Since the first tour of a new era is over and he played an active role on that, he thinks now is a good time for him to jet off and practice for the future. He wants to improve his overall skills as well as his physique and completely transform himself. Besides the USA, Nakamura said there are many places he hopes to visit, including Mexico (again), Brazil, and Russia. Since he doesn't know with whom he'll become acquainted overseas, he is hoping new friendships will lead to new possibilities. NWA TNA are hoping to use Nakamura for their upcoming "Destination X" PPV, so that may be one of his first big chances. He said his final target is the IWGP Heavyweight Title, but he has multiple reasons for taking this trip. In his absence, he thinks fellow young wrestlers like Yamamoto will be given more chance to shine and he can't wait to seeing how wrestlers have changed after he returns. Since he has been given an indefinite amount of time to explore the world and evolve, it may be a long time before we see Nakamura in the New Japan ring again, but this is a chance of a lifetime for the man many expect to shoulder the industry in future to become a man of "Global Standard".
