Guest Report post Posted June 1, 2002 Here's a bunch of ideas I wanted to get on screen about how to make the Raw brand a viable promotion on its own, called RAW, or Rebirth of American Wrestling. Bear with me as I list my thoughts. RAW Programming: Monday Night RAW: Joey Styles and Paul Heyman would take broadcast duty. I think Joey, if toned down a bit, is an excellent wrestling play-by-play man, on par with Tenay and Hudson. I dare say Solie. Heyman would be taken away from managing Lesnar and concentrating instead on color commentary and writing. As for what to do with Brock, that's for them to worry about. RAW HeAT: Marc Loyd and Michael Hayes are competent announcers. Loyd has shown promise beyond being a PPV shill during the matches, if I do say so myself. RAW Bottom Line: Jonathan Coachman would be pretty harmless on the recap/clip show, so relegate him to this shift. RAW Uncut: Jim Cornette could do the other studio show featuring behind-the-scenes clips of RAW wrestlers, as well as classic matches from RAW, WCW, and ECW. Also, some pieces about OVW would be shown. WWE Programming: WWE SmackDown!: Jim Ross and Jerry Lawlercan just do their thing on Thursdays. WWE Velocity: Michael Cole and Al Snow are decent in this small dose. WWE AfterBurn: Put Chris Leary here. He's Coach #2. WWE Confidential: Have Gene Mean keep up the good work. Cosmetic changes for RAW shows: Of course, they really need to make RAW look different on camera from WWE. One thing I would do is ditch the stage setup that's been in use since Raw is War. Replace the ramp with a flat, comparitively shorter catwalk to the ring like WCW and ECW used. I've noticed that many wrestlers have trouble with the ramp and often hobble or stumble to the ring. This was also a problem in WCW, which is why they used the catwalk. Instead of the TitanTron above the entrance on stage, put a square video wall on the stage with the entrances on the left and right. I would bring back the big R A W letters that were in use back in 1996. They were cool. A general change in the look of the set would help a lot. The WWE logo would no longer be anywhere on screen or stage. Instead, the RAW logo would be used exclusively, except when showing graphics for WCW/ECW/J-Crown titles. Any other ways to make RAW stand out? Add to the thread.
