Jannetty is just incredible. I just watched Rumble ’91 for the first time in ages forgot how good the guy was. Survivor Series 96 is another prime example (remember the top-rope powerbomb on Skip?) This guy wasn’t only an innovator, he did stuff they can’t even do today.

I think Jannetty was originally supposed to get the Shawn Michaels push, but the WWF pulled the plug on it because of his drug problems and gave the push to his partner.

Micheals was the more charismatic of the two but jannetty was the more talented. Micheals got better along the way; jannetty was always gifted. If Marty could have kept his nose clean, he could have been a star.

Anway, Marty was good, but was a stoner who constantly wrestled under the influence of something, Shawn too. But Marty had a worse problem so they fired him several times and sent him to rehad. Once he left in 1994, nothing could save his career, even though he had a run from late 1996 to summer of 96, it was more of jobbing duties (ala to Goldust at his debut).

I still think that he did a pretty damn good job as a singles wrestler after The Rockers split up. Janetty had the MOTYC at RAW with Michaels, and then went on to get a good match out of *gulp*...Shane Douglas. Just amazing...

Actually Shane Douglas is a decent wrestler. Its his attitude that sucks.

Im a fan of Shane Douglas in the ring. He's a solid worker except in that one hour match with Tully Blanchard.

I always thought Jannetty was a pretty decent talent.  I found him to be as talented as Michaels up till 1994 when his personal problems seems to take over his life.

Anybody that got to follow the AWA in the mid to late 80's (like myself) always thought Marty was going to be the man. The Midnight Rockers were a great team, but Marty stood out. He had the better look, build, and moveset. At the time mic work wasn't needed. Shawn was skinny, had a bad hair cut and was just kinda blah.

Marty was supposed to get the big singles push instead of Shawn. There are two stories as to why.

 

1. Marty pissed off Vince and called WCW so Vince pushed Shawn (Shawn's version)

 

2. Marty was a party guy and was his own worst enemy (Foley in his book)

 

I tend to beleive Foley's version

 

If Jannetty had gotten it, would it have worked. Shawn seemed to have better mic skills.

i've heard that marty went to wcw and tried to get the rockers hired without dealing with vince first.

That is true, I believe, also, Shawn had no clue Marty done that. Also, you can't forget the fact that Marty caused McMahon Millions with the Chad Austin Lawsuit, which no doubt played a good role in the Push decison.

WWF had the Chad Austin lawsuit originaly won, but a Judge excluded a waiver signed by Austin which stipulated that WWF was not responsible for any injury that took place when he was wrestling for them. I have no clue why it was excluded.

 

I'm sure that the lawsuit was a big part of Shawn getting pushed. I don't beleive his story about Marty calling WCW though. Shawn told that in his RF shoot interview, that whole interview is mostly bullshit and Shawn contradicts himself most of the time anyway.

 

Does anyone know if RF did a Marty Jannetty Shoot? I'd love to hear what he has to say.

Actually, wrestling wise, I always thought Jannetty was the better man. I mean, just look at Survivor Series 91 in that match with the Nasty Boys and the Beverlys. He pulled out a fucking Huracanrana! I dunno, the reason I initially liked Shawn Michaels was because he seemed to be the weaker of the two Rockers. Jannetty...I'm not gonna say he carried the team, but he was a lot better than people gave him credit for. IMO, he was ahead of his time.

thanks for the info.  i don't really take anything michaels says seriously because he is the biggest d-bag in wrestling history, but jannetty has always been a good wrestler to me.  he was always solid during his rocker days and also when he first returned and won the ic title.  everytime i remember seeing him after that he wasn't what he used to be. he is still wrestling and was posting at wrestlingclassics board for awhile before he left.  he was always really cool on there.

 

i don't know if there is a shoot for marty but if there is then i bet it is entertaining as hell.  he had some really interesting stories to tell on that other board and I wish I had copied some of them down.

I hate shane douglas so much. I don't know why, he just bores me. Jannetty seemed ok, but i haven't seen enough of him. Jake Roberts was a great psychologist and could have been a great booker if he wasn't so fucked up.

I always thought Marty Jannetty was a great wrestler but it just seemed like he stopped getting better and Shawn Michaels continued getting better and that is why I think Shawn Michaels got the push over Marty Jannetty,does anyone agree with me?

Jannetty wasn't pushed over Shawn cause of his drug/alcohol problems and shawn cleaned himself up somewhat (at the time);

I always like Marty better than Shawn, I don't know why.

 

Only three people know for sure what really happened to give Shawn his singles push. I'd like to think that if it was Marty he'd have been as good as Shawn in the ring, yet so much better in terms of backstage behavior.
