Best Year for the WWF Title...

Recommended Posts

I would have to say 1992 was THE year for the WWF World title. Everything was perfect. Flair won the vacant title by spending about an hour in the Royal Rumble match, and ended all the crap with Hogan being champion constantly.  The storyline built up to Wrestlemania VIII was CLASSIC.  Probably the best ever.  Savage defended Liz's honor and won the title again, without Hogan sharing the spotlight.  Flair and Perfect interjected themselves into the Ultimate Warrior/Randy Savage feud, and everyone wondered who was partnered with the bad guys.  But Flair and Perfect fooled everyone.  Then the title was given to Flair again so he could drop it and give the rub to the next big star:  Bret "Hitman" Hart.  Hart defended it against everyone until the fans accepted him as the biggest star.  Reply with your thoughts.

1990, 1991, 1992 I liked the most, but i'll go with 1991. 1992 I didn't watch alot (since I didn't have cable to order PPV's and we didnt get Primetime wrestling anymore) plus 1991 gernally I liked because I'm bias (HOGAN!!!!!!! WOOOOO!)

Being a biased old school fan i'd say 1992 was probably my favourite year for both the World title and IC title. Just so many classic moments and matches for both titles with some of my favourite wrestlers being in the thick of it all throughout the year.

92 Rumble and Mania 8 were perfection, great booking mixed with equally great performances and totally memorable mark out moments which still remain special ten years on. Warrior vs Savage at Summerslam was pleasantly suprising and Bret became my favourite wrestler with his reign later in the year.

Piper winning the IC belt was one of my favourite ever moments as i was a huge fan of him at the time. It seemed a bit surreal for him to be holding up a title belt. Possibly had his best match with Bret at Mania 8, really intense and memorable stuff. Summerslam 92 was another classic with another of my hero's winning the belt and Bret's heelish attitude adding some intensity and intrigue to things. By the years end Bret and Shawn were facing each other to start a new and lengthy chapter in WWF history.

A memorable year all round.

I'll take a different route and say 1996 because I'm a Shawn Michaels mark and there were a bunch of great matches (HBK-Bret, Diesel-HBK, Vader-HBK, DBS-HBK x2, Sid-HBK, Mankind-HBK).

Thats your opinion but most say 1996 was one of the worst years because of its lacking summer and fall rosters.

1991 was also a great year but not for the title. I was 4 in 91 and i loved wrestling more than any 4 year old should. I went to around 15 live events that year because WCW came here all the time for tapings.

But we're not judging the overall product, we're judging the title situation. I'll have to agree: 1992 was really a template year for fued booking, great matches and elevation.

Hence why I mentioned I watched very little WWF in 1992. 1991 had Flair, Taker,  hogan thing voer the belt, so that wa spretty good.

1992 was awesome...i'll give you that...

But 1996-7 were the years for me, i just loved everything that went on at the time...the storylines ruled and the competition was up to an all new level with WCW in the hunt. Although '97 held some pretty tragic matches, it just appeals to me the most, a killer year for wrestling fans.

What i wouldn't give for WCW to be back...

This has been the Taker Mark

But we are talking about the WWF Title.  There were plenty of contenders for the WWF Title in 1996 and most of them were pretty good.  Hell, almost every PPV ended with a ****+ title match in 1996.

my bad, i have a habit of reading keywords. World Title wise,w ell, it was good. Bret/Diesel, HBK/bret, Hbk/Diesel, HBK/Bulldog, HBK/mankind were all good.  Iwas thinking the year overall..

I would say from Survivor Series 95 to Survivor Series 96. As much as people hate on Bret's reign for being a lame duck champion, he had some hot matches with Bulldog, Diesel, and Taker (I liked the Taker match...that's all that matters). Michaels' reign was speaks for itself.

As for the I-C Title, 93-94 were the best years, IMO.

My vote has to go with 1992.Think about the WWF Champions they had Ric Flair twice,Randy Savage and Bret Hart, four the most hard working wrestlers of all time.Overall I think 1992 was an awesome year for the WWF!!!

Thanks.

I liked 1992 as well.  With Flair, Savage and Hart all holding the title that year I was more than pleased.

I hate you jump on the bandwagon, but I'd have to say 1992 as well....

January: Flair wins the Title at the Royal Rumble. Probably the best Rumble of all-time.

April: Savage defeats Flair for the Title at Wrestlemania VIII. Great match up, one of the best of the event.

September: Flair regains the Title from Flair at a House Show in Hershey, PA.

October: Bret Hart captures his 1st WWF World Championship at a House Show in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

If flair can carry a broomstick to a *** match, just imagine him against the invisible man ala tough enough2.

Flair vs Flair= *****
