I keep getting this annoying pop up which is stopping me from viewing sites as it automatically re-directs me to the winfixer 2006 page.

 

Has anyone heard of it?

I D/L-ed WINRAR in order to get mania off of usenet and since the install my comp has been slow as shit because of the sneaky adware, undetectable by norton internet security/antivirus 06 anyone know how to get rid of it?

Do you think it came in with the Winrar? I've got winrar a couple different times and I've never had a problem with any adware or spyware associated with it. Winrar in general is a resources hog when you are unzipping something. I would suggest Webroot Spysweeper, you can get a free trial from download.com. The free trial is enough for a few scans and removal.

WinRAR definitely doesn't have adware in it, unless you downloaded it from some other site.

Probably made changes to your registry when it sneaked in.

 

If Spybot didn't work, try AdAware. If that isn't successful...

 

I'd download HiJack This! and follow some of the info on the first Google result shown here:
