Guest Report post Posted June 2, 2002 So here's the way I would have booked the main event. In the run-up to Hogan/Undertaker, I would of course stress the history that these two have had, especially the Ric Flair chair incedent. Many video packages would be shown. In the week before PPV Hogan cuts a promo basically saying that history is never going to repeat, he's going to walk out victorious, because he's still the unbeatable, red and yellow real american, wheras 'Taker is just a broken down ageing biker past his prime. Come the day of PPV, Hogan goes out to the ring first. All of a sudden; power failure. The lights go off, and Jim Ross over the P.A. system tells the audience that there's been some technical difficulties, and please calm down. keep this going for a minute or so. Then a voice is heard. "Hogan.... you were right. No broken down biker is gonna take down Hulkamania," *BONG!* Oldskool UT. Old music, old entrance, and the same costume as when he first beat Hogan. 'Epic' battle ensues, in which UT cheats almost constantly. At the end, we see a repeat of the past. Last Ride onto a chair held by flair. dingdingding new champion. UT and Flair spray NWO onto hogan's lifeless body. The NWO now goes on a rampage over RAW midcarders. First Golddust is beaten down unmercifully. After a while RVD is set up, and retains the IC title due to DQ after the entire NWO hits their finishers on him during a match between him and Booker. The NWO steal the IC title from RVD At this point Booker becomes pissed off (he was about to win the IC title) and starts giving 'Taker some lip. Tension mounts, and eventually Booker snaps, turns face, and comes to RVD and Golddust's aid when an NWO run-in interrupts a tag match between them and Big Show/X-Pac. Booker gives RVD his title belt back, and RVD, Golddust and Booker shake hands. Immediately after, Booker starts gunning for 'Taker. After losing due to interference several times, Booker wins the title in the July PPV, after Golddust, RVD and all the other midcarders previously attacked by the NWO prevent the NWO running in on him during his match with UT. We're talking about a massive bwrawl outside the ring with chairs and shit flying everywhere. Booker feuds a bit with some Smackdown wrestlers, including Edge, giving him the rub in a few near losses. Meanwhile the Austin/RVD/Eddie/Benoit angle goes on as it is now, and while they dont fall out with each other, RVD and Golddust don't spend so much time with Booker anymore. After a while, maybe in late October, Booker appears on tv proclaiming that as a SIX TIME! SIX TIME! world champion, he's the greatest wrestler in the WWE today. Out comes Benoit, who begs to differ. After all, he can't recall actually losing the WCW belt the last time he won it, so half of Booker's ass belongs to him! Nice long feud, culminating in Benoit going over Booker in the December PPV, and giving the new year a new champion. Now comes the wierd part. Hogan wins the rumble. He comes in at #30, and tosses UT out become #1 contender. He begins to make empassioned speeches about how the title means so much to him. He talks about how Wrestlemania is his day, how while he has lost the title in the past he was sloppy, he's not going to make mistakes again. At WM19, Hulk Hogan is going to bring everything he has to the table. Because if Hogan doesn't win the title.... he's leaving the sport he loves so much. A feud builds up between Hogan and Benoit, with neither facing off to a conclusive victory over each other (all DQ's and no decisions) At No Way Out, Hogan pins Benoit in a tag match, afther Benoit's partner is out cold and Benoit is double-teamed. WM 18 comes around. Hogan cuts another promo about how this is make or break time for Hulkamania, and may the best man win. Main event. Hogan vs. Benoit in a 2 out of 3 falls for the title. First fall goes to Benoit, as he makes Hogan tap to the Crippler Crossface. Second fall goes to Hogan. Hogan gets BRUTAL, hitting the Axe Bomber on Benoit in the corner 3 times in a row, and then dropping the leg 3 times consecutively for the pin. Final fall, and Benoit pins Hogan 1-2-3. Hogan rolls out of the ring and grabs the belt. Cue spectulation by JR that he's going to renege on his promise and keep going. Hogan grabs a mic. "Brother, tonight I brought everything to the table. Tonight I didn't choke. I didn't make a mistake like I did against Warrior, and I didn't get screwed like I was against 'Taker. Tonight I lost fair and square brother, and you're the better man. You beat me by pinfall, you beat me by submission, and I've got no problem with that, because I tried harder than I've ever done before, and in the end that's all I can do." Hulk thanks all of his Hulkamaniacs for what they've done for him over the years. He tells them that Hulkamania isn't dead, that it can't ever really die. Hulkamania wasn't really about Hulk Hogan, it was about each and every one of the fans. It lived inside each and every one of you. HOgan simply let everyone know about it. And now that he's gone, it's up to the younger stars to keep it alive. Hulkamania isn't about Hulk Hogan, it's about the love of Wrestling. And tonight it's his honour to present the highest prize of wrestling to the one who most deserves it, the WWE champion. He hands the belt to Benoit, they embrace, and we go off air with Beniot a newly-made babyface, and Hogan retired FOR GOOD. So whaddaya think?
