Guest DEEP THOUGHT

I was just wondering what's wrong with the Genius gimmick. It was no different from the character Leapin' Lanny Poffo portrayed prior to taking the gimmick of the Genius. They both read poetry, pranced about and acted "gay". The only difference was that Leapin' Lanny Poffo was a babyface. While the Genius called himself "The World's smartest man" and was a heel.

I have no idea why you included the Ultimate Warrior as Wrestlecrap. Jim Hellwig/Warrior played the role very well and was extremely over during BOTH his stints in the WWF. Of course I'm not a fan of his, but I did enjoy seeing him no sell the pedigree and squash HHH in 90 seconds at Wrestlemania XII.

I think you forgot Men on a Mission, as well as the Truth Comission, D.O.A. and just about every other faction involved in the gang wars of 1997.

The Hurricane? Waylon Mercy?

Them's fightin' words, Scorpy.

And what did Power & Glory ever do to you? Those sunglasses were KEWL.

Well, not really.

Here's a bigger difference... "Leapin" Lanny was a jobber.  The Genius was at least marginally over.

What in God's name...

"Blackhole studded losers who don't deserve any recognition at all?..."apidome?"

How can Butch Reed be "Wrestlecrap"(I am really starting to hate that term), he is a MAN, not a bad gimmick. The Natural thing wasn't even that bad. The Ultimate Warrior, The Bushwackers, and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake were not bad gimmicks, they were very effective gimmicks that need to be looked at in the context of the late 80's, not today. The Warrior and "Barber" gimmicks worked well enough for the WWF to give one of them the world title and have the other headline house shows in the late 80's.

Beefcake also main-evented a SummerSlam.  And why does everybody hate Power & Glory?

Doink was a very clever and successful gimmick, sure it got pretty crappy when Dink showed up and those awful midget matches happened but for a time it really captivated the crowd. Remember the pop he got at the gimmick battle royle when the crowd was silent for some of the real wrestlecrappers?

The Warrior was over like mad and fitted well into the wwf of that era.

I agree with El Cubano.

Back in the day there was no one to go ' a wrestling barber , gee, what are they smoking?' Those kind of characters were very over in their day and back then, as marks, we loved (well liked at most) those characters, but now too many people laugh at the past, which is a pretty easy target.

I would like to know what's wrong with Power & Glory as well.  Aside from people still being bitter about Paul Roma being a Horseman, anyway.  They did some good double team moves and had some entertaining matches though.

They had a few matches then vanished along with Mantuar, Adam Bomb, Well Dunn, Tatanka and several other non-drawers.

Tantaka was a draw for awhile I thought. And what was Power and Glorys gimmick anyway? And Avatars?

I have to agree with NWOScorpion. The Hurricane gimmick was really bad. Too bad Wrestlecrap never added him. Let's hope some other bad gimmick site covers him.

Power & Glory as WrestleCrap is a tired cliché that a lot of people apparantly don't agree with.

I wrote this in a Paul Roma forum some weeks ago:

"Oh, come on. He wasn't that bad. He had one of the highest dropkicks I have ever seen, he did his share in P&G (who btw had an awesome finisher in the Powerplex) and Pretty Wonderful was a good team. Nothing wrong there. Someone made a huge mistake when he became a Horseman but I wouldn't hold that against him. That's like hating Ronnie Garvin for being given the NWA World title to job it back to Flair at Starrcade'87. They just got lucky on your entertaiments expense.

In my humble opinion both Roma and Garvin are among the open doors that people love to kick in for no apparent reason."

Yeah they had a few matches in 95 and returned in mid 96 to have a few matches with the Bodydonnas or the Smokin' Gunns...I think they even got a Tag Title shot.

What's wrong with Billy & Chuck? While it did take them a while to become anything different, with the help of Rico they've become an entertaining, formidable, and over team.

I'm not even going to bother arguing The Hurricane, as I've loved that gimmick from day one.  It would be like me trying to argue about Raven... my terrible bias would seep through and I wouldn't be able to get a proper argument and would come off as stupid.

Also, what's wrong with the Gobbledygooker? I'm serious.  If it was anything other than a one time deal I could see why, but since the Gobbledygooker only appeared once, ever (not counting the Gimmick Battle Royal), what's everyone's problem with it? I actually think the costume was kinda cute, albeit very cartoonish (obviously), and watching Mean Gene dance was funny in a sado-masochistic sort of way... even if the segment did run about thrice as long as it should have.

The reason the Gobbledygooker's one and only appearance is so infamous was because the crowd totally turned on it and were openly hostile towards its presence. Watch Survivor Series 90, listen to the crowd booing and watch the various objects being thrown in its direction. For any WWF crowd (especially in that era) that kind of reaction was unusual and proved how stupid the whole thing really was.

I still don't think the Billy/Chuck team is really over in all honesty but i agree Rico has improved them to an extent, he's certainly more entertaining than Billy and Chuck.
