Question for the Bret Hart fans

Recommended Posts

Guest Dangerous A

What if the accident that took Owen's life had not occured? The real question I am asking is do you think Bret would've ever forgiven Vince (and vice versa) and come back?

I think after seeing Vince forgive Hulk Hogan for testifying against him in 1994, I think Vince would put animosity aside and let Bret back in. Especially during tough times like these. But if the Owen tragedy had not occured would Bret have eventually given in? Would WCW even have gone out of business?

I await your responses, hitman fans.

OK....first thing is that although Hogan testified for the prosecution, he did nothing but praise Vince and basically helped Vince get off.

If Owen hadn't of died, I think Bret would have been able to work something out.  Before the accident, after a while, he said all he wanted was an apology from Vince.  Its not a matter of Vince taking Bret back, because he's said on many occasions that he'd love him back.  Its Bret's call and right now, he'll never come back :(

To me, Owen dying is the true tragedy of the whole Bret/Vince saga. I think there was one more great story to be told between those two and I think if given enough time they would've patched differences and made a ton of money. You are right Dames, Bret will never be back in a WWF(E) ring again.

Considering the fact that Bret is my favorite of all time, it hurts to think that he'll never come back.  When I heard the rumors for Wrestlemania this year, I marked out like a mofo, cuz I had tix.

After reading that he turned it down and his reasons why, I respected him even more for keeping his word and his dignity.

I think Bret would still come back, only if the two met privately to have a talk, catch up on times, and iron out their differences... before bringing up a return.  By my understanding, Bret was considering taking up Vince's offer for a WM-18 return, but didn't want to because it would've been made out to be a circus in front of the cameras, and not treated as all that serious, but just as another way to make money for Vince.

Dames is right, Vince would love to have him back in some capacity, but it's Bret's decision.

I'm not doubting whether Vince would have him back. He brought back the NWO, so he would bring back Bret. But I don't think Bret can or will forgive him for what happened to Owen. I guess the new question should be how long do you think it would take Bret to forgive Vince for Montreal had the Owen incident not happened?

Does Brett really blame Owen's death on Vince or is he just saying that because of all the past problems he had with Vince.

I think you have 2 factors that would close any return for Bret Hart:

1. Owen dying.

2. His match with Goldberg at Starrcade 99.

I just wouldn't see Bret Hart coming back to the WWE and just doing a manager type role or whatever. People would DEMAND to see him in the ring.

I'm not sure if Montreal was a work or not, but I'm not too sure if Bret would have come back to the WWF back in March of 2001 when they bought WCW if he hadn't been hurt. Sad to say, I think Bret Hart's wrestling carrer is pretty much over unless he gets a miracle and his head is fixed.

Yeah i think Bret would've ended up returning if not for Owen. I think Bret would've realized it was just business and would've sat down with Vince and had a long conversation talking it out. But i think Owen basically killed Bret's wrestling desire.

I mean when you looked at Bret during his last year or two years wrestling you could see in his eyes that he just really didn't care all that much anymore. When he looked into the crowd you could see his appreciation for all the people still cheering him but you could also tell that he was just fed up with it all.

Now this isn't saying that Bret will never return to WWeee, because well anything is possible. However i'd be surprised if Bret actually has enough desire to want to return any longer. But at the same time i wouldn't be shocked to see Bret to return at some point for at least one last match so that he can retire properly. I can see WWeee at some point in time building up a Wrestlemania match between Bret and HBK and hyping it as "the final match between two former WWF superstars".

I think the gunshot that silenced the possible return of Bret to the WWE happened the day of Owen's funeral when Bret met Vince on a park bench. Bret asked Vince why he did what he did to him, and Vince basically apologized and told Bret that if he could go back and change it he would, and that he wanted Bret to come back home and retire in the WWF. Bret was really skeptical... he then asked Vince if he could have access to his WWF material (video, pictures etc) and Vince said YES and told Bret to contact the offices sometime the next week.

Bret did a few days later and was told by Vince's secretary that he said no such thing and that he didn't even recall a conversation with Bret

Don't forget, a little while after that, Vince went on the TV show (I think) "Off The Record" and said when he and Bret met in the park, Bret didn't care about Owen's Death and only wanted to talk about Montreal.

I'm sure that hurt Bret even more then him not getting his footage.

had owen not died, i think it seems pretty likely bret would have come back.  i believe they would've been willing to iron out their differences & bret would've been more willing to negotiate just for the chance to be able to work with his brother again.

but as it stands, bret will never work for vince again.  ever.  i applaud him for that.  i also applaud him for not refereeing at wrestlemania, because it would've left him with 2 options: raising jericho's hand while getting booed & destroying the entire point of having a special ref, or raising triple h's hand while losing every single ounce of dignity he had (since bret believes that trips was a part of the montreal conspiracy).  i admit, i would've screamed like a little bitch if i'd seen him in the ring, but it ultimately would've been pointless.
