2006 TSM NFL Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

Weeeeeelllllllllll.

Since my 2nd round target is gone *shakes fist yet again at MrRant* I'm going to go with the BPA that fills a need. That means defense, since there are still plenty of good OLs available later on in the draft. I'm a bit torn between two players, but I'm going to go with:

a-allen_0876.jpg

Jason Allen, DB, University of Tennessee

A bit of a risk due to his injury, but everyone says he's completely healed. If that's true, he's a first round talent. Plus, given the Texans' overwhelming mediocrity in the defensive backfield, he can step in and get playing time at either CB or safety.

With the 34th pick overall in the 2006 draft, the New Orleans Saints pick...

DeMeco Ryans, OLB, Alabama

Ryans has a talent for knowing exactly where the ball is, is a hard-hitter, and played in a complicated defensive scheme at Alabama, so he shouldn't have mental problems adjusting to the pros.

His downsides are seen as being about 2 inches shorter than most teams would like and his 40 time is good but not jaw-dropping.

Ryans should be the perfect kind of player to fill the Saints' long-standing holes in their defense.

With the 35th pick of the NFL Draft, the New York Jets select:

scott_jonathon.jpg

Jonathan Scott OT, Texas

The Jets need help with the offensive line, and Scott is the best tackle available.

With the 36th pick of the NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select:

29000.jpeg

Maurice Drew, UCLA

This was kind of tough for me, and I guess this might be a tad of homerism, but I thought quite honestly this was the best pick for the Packers. He's probably already an upgrade over Tony Fisher (the old guy they had doing the 3rd down dirty work+special teams), and the Pack has been looking for a return guy for quite some time.. and with the unstable position at RB (where you have 3 guys coming back off serious season-ending injuries), there should be someone that can spell the load and possibly break a big play both on special teams and on offense. I looked at wide receiver and guard, and feel that Green Bay can still get a good player at either position later in the draft, especially at guard. They don't need any more DB's, so really this was the best choice, and I was also going with the whole "best availalble player" theory. Drew could turn out to be the next Brian Westbrook and at worst, a good return guy especially with a 4.3 40. If I had decided to go with a guard here, I probably would have gone for Brian Calhoun later in the draft, which I wouldn't be surprised at the Packers doing, although I think Drew fills more immediate needs, especially on special teams, right away so that's why I picked him rather than going the other route.

Time's up on the Niners, so we'll slot Manny Lawson, DE/OLB, NC State in there. This year's fast rising, athletic tweener that the 3-4 was built for.

The Raiders are on the clock

With the 38th overall pick, the Oakland Raiders select...

7q9q3m2l.jpg

Ko Simpson, S, South Carolina

Strengths:

Has good size and a solid frame...Very productive and a standout throughout his two year career...Always around the action and has a nose for the ball...Is equally effective as a ballhawk in coverage and in supporting the run...Physical and a good tackler...Good ball skills...Has great instincts...Improving and has upside.

Weaknesses:

Might not have elite timed speed and needs to run well in workouts to solidify a high grade...Older than the average prospect with his experience and will be a 23-year-old rookie in '06...Might not be quite the pro prospect his college press clippings would lead you to believe...Has only played two years of college ball.

A bit of a reach here, but the guy is a player and I think he'll project really well in the pros. He fills a big need for the Raiders, and should be able to help out right away.

From Pinjockey...

With the 39th overall pick, the Tennessee Titans select...

maryland_dqwell_jackson_sm.jpg

D'Qwell Jackson, LB, Maryland

Strengths:

Incredibly instinctive and smart football player who is like an extra coach on the field...Is a pretty good natural athlete and has a burst...Makes plays sideline-to-sideline and has good range...Is a sure tackler...Very solid in coverage...Has a lot of experience...Possesses great intangibles and has a fire in his belly that drives him to be the best...Was extremely productive and is always around the ball.

Weaknesses:

Lacks ideal size...Doesn't have great timed speed...Will struggle to shed blockers...Can be engulfed and handled by players who are much bigger than he is...Could stand to hit the weights and get stronger...Is not really a lights-out hitter...Might need to be in the right scheme to succeed at the next level.

He seems to be the #1 ILB in the draft, so a solid 2nd round pick for the Titans.

I'm gonna have to pull out. I'm sick as hell and won't be able to make it to a computer for a little while. Just was updating fantasy teams and stuff, and thought I should drop by.

I'm going to stop the clock until EHME makes his pick, between my internet crapping out yesterday and losing the next poster picking we'll take a little pause to get back on track.

EHME is up and Arizona is now available if anyone wants to pick up another team.

With the 40th pick of the 2006 draft, the Detroit Lions select...

Omar Jacobs, QB, Bowling Green

i_jacobs2_412.jpg

Some might disagree with this pick, but I really think Omar Jacobs is going to be a franchise QB. I think he's has the best potential in QB selection and problay will be better then all 3 of the 1st round QB's. He has a very strong arm, can move around well in the pocket, is a very accurate passer, and is very athletic. He can throw the deep ball and the long ball very well and accurate, as he displayed that in the scouting combine. Yes, there are concerns about his throwing motion, but I think that Jon Kitna and Mike Martz can help mentor him and help him improve on that. Don't forget, Kitna helped mentor Carson Palmer, and Palmer turned out to be the best QB of the 2005 season. And Mike Martz is great at developing offensive players. This would be a perfect place for Omar Jacobs to go, and he should be their franchise QB in the future years.

With the 41st pick of the NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals selects:

Gfeature06.jpg

Max Jean-Gilles, OG of University of Georgia

I don't have his statistics or anything available, but the Cardinals needs an offensive lineman to block for Edge. This is the man for the job.

Don't forget, Kitna helped mentor Carson Palmer, and Palmer turned out to be the best QB to get his knee wrecked by Kimo von Oelhoffen in the 2005 season.

No need to be a smart ass.

Carson Palmer was the best QB of the 2005 season, stats proved my point. Stop hatin.

Your the dumbass.

I said Jon Kitna, helped mentor Palmer, in which he did. As Palmer sat behind Kitna in the 2003 season, and learnt from him. I didn't say he was responsible for all of it. Stupid, learn how to read.

How is that implying anything? Your just assuming things.

I'm just stating the facts.

Kitna DID mentor Palmer(Carson has stated various of times, he learnt many times from Kitna) and Palmer was the best QB of 2005. Not once did I say Kitna was the main reason Palmer was so succesful. So stop assuming shit, dumbass.

OK, my last word on this:

Why on earth would you backtrack so far on your original statement, when you were using it to try and show that Kitna would be a great mentor?

YOU SAID Kitna would be a great mentor for Jacobs.

AS EVIDENCE of this, you said that Kitna "mentored" Carson Palmer, and Carson Palmer was the "best QB in the league."

THEREFORE, you are saying that Kitna's mentoring is one of the main causes of Palmer being a great QB, because that's the only way this statement could be used in the context of Kitna being a great mentor.

End of argument.

Like Porter already said, help=/=cause.

Yes, I said Kitna would be a great mentor for Jacobs, as he did HELP Carson Palmer translate into the NFL.

I didn't say "Jon Kitna mentoring is the main reason why Palmer was the best QB in the NFL". So please stop putting words into my post. Retard.

FUCK! That's who I was thinking of taking when I made my Maurice Drew pick, figured for some reason he'd be taken this round, though. Was hoping he might land in the 3rd though, but I had some concerns with him over keeping in shape and staying motivated.. which I think would be easier to do with a winning ballclub and a tough coach, neither of which Green Bay has (although I haven't seen McCarthy in action quite yet).

I don't think there's a chance Gabe Watson drops that low, but this would be a pretty great draft so far for the Bills. Great athlete in Vernon Davis and they a DT, another need.

Way to let Tyler's dumb ass shit talking get everybody fired up.
