Does anyone know when the album is due out?

I really want to hear Rob Zombie's rendition of "Blitkrieg Bop"!

According to this Rolling Stone article, they wanted to get it out by the 1st anniversary of Joey's death, but they didn't want to rush it. Amazon doesn't have any listings for We're a Happy Family yet.

What's the point of tribute albums? People know how great a band like The Ramones were, why do we need a bunch of artists recording their own asinine versions of classic songs? From a musical point of view its pointless. Its not like a Ramones song could really be drastically re-interpreted anyway, given their style of music.

The only artists I can remember for sure as being part of the Ramones tribute are Rancid, Green Day, Eddie Vedder, and maybe Red Hot Chili Peppers, but don't quote me on any of that.

I agree totally.  I'm not looking forward to this at all.  There's no point at karaoke "re-interpretations" of 3-chord pop-punk.  This is not to take anything away from The Ramones, they're one of my "favorite bands I own no albums of", but come on... if anything, remember how Sub Pop found artists who could screw up Kinks songs?! Tribute albums at best are well-intentioned but ultimately pointless.  Impromptu live covers in a concert setting are so much more fun anyway.

Rob Zombie is doing Blitzkreig Bop?! Oh well, should be interesting. They could have done worse.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh dammit!! Manson is doing "The KKK Took My Baby Away" which is my favorite Ramones song.

I always envisioned Metallica covering it for the album, cause I know at least Lars voiced interest in the project a few months back.

At the Metallica Club website, news has just been posted that Metallica has recorded 8( ! ) Ramones covers in the studio, and are now just deciding which one they want to give to the tribute abum. Awesome.

Why not? It's not like pop punk is rocket science or anything... it's the easiest style of music to play, and is enjoyable enough, but needs good lyrics (already provided by The Ramones) to be worth anything.

Besides, what's wrong with U2? Ever since Zooropa it's been "uncool" to like U2, and even though its far from their best musical period, they're still probably the greatest band in the world right now in their ability to write good songs that also share mainstream appeal.

I'm guessing Rob Zombie adds approximately 35 "Yeah's" to Blitzkrieg Bop.

well the why comes from them being the type that is usually not on tribute albums, givenm their "stature" and all
