CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2006 How is it done? I mean Major League, for example, I could see as being all extras, since there weren't any real players in that. But let's say when real players are involved? Would there just be a posting on a team schedule for game attendees to know of in advance, a la giveaway days? The Curb Your Enthuisasm where he trips Shaq is what I was thinking of in particular.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2006 They usually film in the offseason as close to the beginning/end of the season as possible so the weather's right (March/late October for baseball), or during the season when the team is on the road, or even before/after a game if it is a just a quick appearance by an athlete. Though I do remember that for Fever Pitch, they actually filmed in Fenway during games and just closed off a few rows or a section for the actors and extras. spman 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2006 I know a lot of times when a majority of the movie takes place in a stadium setting, they just do open casting for extras, and just let anyone who wants to walk in off the street and get free lunch come in and fill seats. The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2006 A couple things: 1. I haven't seen Fever Pitch, but I distinctly remember Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon being allowed to run around on the field with a film crew, celebrating with the Red Sox when they clinched the World Series in St. Louis so they could use the footage for the movie. That Major League Baseball allowed that to happen was ridiculous, and I'm not even a Red Sox or Cardinals fan. 2. Major League filmed in Milwaukee, but they do have a few fly-bys and crowd shots of Cleveland Municipal Stadium spliced into the final game. I think they took those shots during a real game in Cleveland in August. I vaguely remember them advertising that they'd be shooting here for that. Also, the nun at the turnstile as people are filing in before the Yankees game is actually a big-time Indians fan. Local news has done a ton of features on her. Yeah, I remember Angels in the Outfield was filmed in Oakland Coliseum and Jerry Maguire was filmed at Sun Devil Stadium where the Cardinals really do play, because I lived at those places at the time. I believe that both of them were filmed on "special days" where the real teams weren't even there.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2006 There are a couple different methods. Sometimes they'll shoot footage during actual games. I believe there's a scene in Three Men and a Little Lady that was shot during an actual game at Shea Stadium. Other times, like in 61*, they will bring in fans as extras to a stadium and film that way. Filmmakers will get creative. For example, crowd scenes in Cobb featured maybe 1,000 fans, who they would pan over repeatedly to give the impression of a full stadium.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted April 26, 2006 I believe 61 was filmed at Tiger Stadium in Detroit and not at Yankee Stadium. The movie BIG had a scene where Tom Hanks is at a Yankee game and gets a foul ball.
