Comments that which don't warrant a thread

Recommended Posts

Getting rid of this thread is a horrible idea. I, for one don't want to see random threads with only 3 posts clogging up the forum. Which is exactly what will happen if this folder is killed.

This is done in April. I'm going to try the route we use in the wrestling folders.

Aha, but I was specifically brought on-board to mod this folder, and I want it to stay!

Clearly a massive geography-destroying fight is our only solution.

Godzilla totally should have won.

This thread is fine. It's not like wrestling where it completely took over the folder to the point that it hampered discussion.

Why is this thread done??

Pretty sure Venk meant "Comments That Don't Warrant: April" starts up in April, shuts down 5/1, at which the May "Comments..." thread starts up, and so on.

I thought he did in the Japenese version.

To my understanding, they only changed a little bit of the voiceover narration at the end. Exact same thing still happens, with Godzilla and Kong falling into the ocean, and only Kong coming back up. The American narrator proudly proclaims how KK's won the day while the Japanese one says Kong's had enough and is retreating back home.

According to Wikipedia, you're right.

For many years a popular myth has persisted that in the Japanese version of this film, Godzilla emerges as the winner. It isn't known where this myth of the dual endings actually originated, but it's been reported as far back as Famous Monsters of Filmland in the early 1960s. Decades later in the 1980s, the myth was still going strong. The Genus III edition of the popular board game Trivial Pursuit had a question that asked "Who wins in the Japanese version of King Kong vs Godzilla", and states that the correct answer is "Godzilla". As well, through the years, this myth has been misreported by various members of the media[5], and has been misreported by reputable news organizations.[8]

But as more Westerners were able to view the original version of the film especially after its availability on home video during the late 1980s, the myth became dispelled. Both versions of the film end the same way. Kong and Godzilla crash into the ocean, and Kong is the only monster to emerge and swims home. The only differences between the two endings of the film are extremely minor and trivial ones.

In the Japanese version, as Kong and Godzilla are fighting underwater, a very small Earthquake occurs. In the American version, producer John Beck tacked on stock footage of a violent Earthquake from the film The Mysterians to make the climatic earthquake seem far more violent and destructive.

The dialogue is slightly different. In the Japanese version onlookers are speculating that Godzilla might be dead as they watch Kong swim home, and speculate that it's possible he survived. In the American version, onlookers simply say "Godzilla has disappeared without a trace", and newly shot scenes of reporter Eric Carter has him watching Kong swim home on a viewscreen and wishing him luck on his long journey home.

As the film ends and the screen fades to black, Owari (The End) appears on screen, Godzilla's roar followed by Kong's is on the Japanese soundtrack. This was akin to the monsters "taking a bow" or saying "Goodbye" to the audience, as at this point the film is over. In the American version, only Kong's roar is present on the soundtrack.

And from imdb.com's trivia page:

Although fans of both Kong and Godzilla argue to this day, Toho has declared that King Kong was meant to win. Kong was much more popular than Godzilla at this time, and was the obvious choice to win audiences over.

I think King Kong also fought a giant Frankenstein monster, but I might be confused with something else.

The Godzillathon Countdown last October by James "AVGN" Rolfe was pretty good.

It's actually Frankenstein vs. Baragon:

There was a script for a proposed King Kong vs. Frankenstein film, which was never made. This one would have stayed true to Frankenstein, in the sense that the movie was about Dr. Frankenstein creating a giant beast to combat Kong, whereas the attempted(and dropped)Japanese flick is about a version of Frankenstein's monster that is irradiated by the bomb that made Godzilla and grows large.

And there is actually two versions to the end of that film:

American version: Frankenstien and Baragon sink into the ground and both die

Japanese version: Frankenstien kills Baragon and then a giant octupus (the one from King Kong vs. Godzilla) shows up and fights him and pulls him into the ocean

I'm watching this show on BBCA called, "Married to the Eiffel Tower". It's about people who have sexual relationships and attractions to inanimate objects. We're not talking Dildos here, no sir! There are some folks featured here that are sexually/physically attracted to The Eiffel Tower, the fucking Tilt-A-Whirl at an amusement park, The Berlin Wall, a Samurai Sword, and a 6-foot section of Picket Fence. The hell?

I can only assume that the people making the show have the Adult Swim peoples' mothers held hostage at harpoon point or have WMDs ready to go off the second their show is cancelled, because that is the worst thing ever put on TV.

Major thumbs up for Miss California standing up to that retard Perez Hilton asking her stance on gay marriage during the Miss America thing. That whole scene screamed of a set-up, since there are only four states that actually allow gay marriage. Just so happens that the biggest state involved in the whole mess just happened to get asked a question about it from a gay blogger whose rep is to swing the gay tag in front of people's faces until they either come out of the closet, or humiliated out of a beauty contest. I mean, since when did people ever care what Miss America thinks as long as she looks hot in a bikini anyway?

Oh, this is what she said...

“Well, I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what? In my country, and my family, I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised, and that’s how I think that it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you.”

Didn't really matter which stand she took, she was screwed the moment the question was asked. If she came out of the closet right then, well, her long-term future is secure in several high-profile pornos. Of course, her response wasn't exactly endearing towards gays, but the amount of hate mail at least will be lessened, since the state actually voted for a gay-marriage ban in November, so the majority of the state agrees with her. Stood her ground, and got buried anyway. Hilton then called her a dumb bitch on his blog, just to pour salt in the wound that he opened. Seriously, if she killed him tomorrow, I would argue for self-defense.

I may be missing something here, but how was she going to get out of that? Not answer and be completely ignorant? Answer the way she did and get hammered by gays (which wouldn't exactly make them gay, but you get the idea)? Completely side with gays and get thrown out altogether?

Um, since when does saying anything in favor of gay people amount to coming out of the closet?

And I think it's safe to say someone carrying the title "MISS AMERICA" might be expected to have an opinion on issues that matter to AMERICA. The mentality that they're only good for standing around and looking pretty is what leads to these girls being raised as vapid barbie dolls with opinions that usually find their basis in simplistic religious beliefs. Maybe Perez was hoping she had read a book in her life and could offer more than "that's how I was raised". But a girl who's spent her whole life thinking standing around and looking pretty is of great importance shouldn't be expected to have an intelligent opinion on anything let alone an important civil rights issue that actually requires thought not limited by an abundance of methane found on most farms.

It's not, I was just saying that she was doomed no matter what she said, as I mentioned later on. She may as well have called herself gay, because any other answer, the homosexuals were out for blood at that point. They were pissed that she even got runner-up. And given Perez's history, he had an agenda and he carried it out to perfection.

And outside of Vanessa Williams, when has Miss America actually meant anything in the long-term?

Never, because of the same mentality you're showing right now. Amazing how people so frightened about the sanctity of marriage forgot that part about treating women as equal partners in life.

I'm not seeing your point here. I just thought it was good for her to actually say something to someone who was trying to push an agenda. He got what he wanted. I don't really care if it was right or wrong, mostly because that's subjective, but also because there was no way to get out of it, so at least she went down swinging. I mean, in the end, the question was about as meaningless as a Wonderlic question during the NFL combine. In the end, it's not really going to affect whatever she does in her life all that much. But it made good TV.

Yeah he was pushing an agenda, asking MISS AMERICA about one of AMERICA's most debated issues, is pushing an agenda.... You ever think maybe the agenda was giving these girls a chance to show that they were raised with a brain that's more useful than her tan? Or maybe it was a the super sneaky agenda of turning off every intelligent, young girl who made the mistake of of watching this show from ever growing up to be a vapid idiot with no opinion beyond "that's how I was raised yall".

How is asking Miss America about the issues of America pushing an agenda? Should he have gone the extra mile and asked her how we should fix the economy?
