n00b's first post -- Favourite Movie Moments?

Recommended Posts

Did a quick search and didn't notice any on the first couple pages, and another site I frequent reminded me of the format, so let's give this a try.

List your answers to the first four questions below, and then answer #5 with as many as you like.

1. Favourite Action Sequence or Fight Sequence

2. Favourite One-liner/quote

3. Favourite Sex/Nude Scene

4. Favourite Movie (or movies, maybe up to 3or so)

5. Favourite movie moments period, scenes that have left a lasting memory in you, or influenced you in some way.

Here I go...

1. Favourite Action Sequence - Chase scene in Bullit (for favourite fight scene, gotta go with Qui-Gonn/Obi-wan vs. Darth Maul from TPM) :boxing:

2. Favourite One-liner/Quote - Bruce Campbell - Army of Darkness:

"I got news for you pal. You ain't leading but two things right now: Jack and shit, and Jack left town." :shotgun:

and

Rowdy Roddy Piper - They Live:

"I came here to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And I'm all outta bubblegum." :headbang:

3. Favourite Sex/Nude Scene - oof, tough one... nah, it's easy... Alyssa Milano, Embrace of the Vampire, Photo Studio Scene

4. Favourite Movie- oof, ACTUAL tough one... gotta go with The Usual Suspects, or Unforgiven. Tough call. Oh, and for non-guy-type movie, gotta go with High Fidelity. Really the only romantic/chick-flick I enjoy.

5. Moments...

* *The Empire Strikes Back when Vader reveals he's Luke's father. :o

*The entire chase scene in Bullit.

*The opening scene of Dirty Harry, with the 5 bullets or 6 speech. Timeless classic.

*The final scene of Unforgiven in the bar when Clint's character finally turns back to what he truly is. Quite possibly one of the greatest movies ever made, IMO.

*Final scene of Saving Private Ryan. Incredibly emotional.

*Storming of Normandy Beach in Saving Private Ryan. Horrific, intense, and exciting. Seeing it in theatres was indescribable.

*The final scene of Star Trek VI: TUC, as Kirk gives the "Second star to the right, and straight on till morning" line, and his final Captain's Log, and the Enterprise sails off towards the sun as the credits roll, with each cast member doing a signature. For a longtime fan of TOS, it was the perfect send-off and a real sense of closure. Made me cry the first time I saw it (age uuuuh.... 13 I guess?) :(

*The final shootout scene in Scarface. Over-the-top movie making at its best. :firing:

*The scene in Platoon where Charlie Sheen has to watch the other two soldiers beat the guy to death and shoot his grandma. Very harsh stuff, very hard to watch, but very truthful of the Vietnam war.

*Spock's death in Star Trek II: TWoK, and Kirk's eulogy at his funeral. Incredibly emotional.

*The complete chase scene in the ORIGINAL (ie. not the shitty Nicholas Cage vehicle) Gone in 60 Seconds.

*The fight scene during the opera in The Fifth Element, very fast-paced and very creative.

*Tuco's dash through the grave yard in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, set to Ennio Morricone's "The Ecstasy of Gold"... easily the greatest mixture of music and imagery in the history of film. I may also be partial to this because I'm a huge Metallica fan, and they use The Ecstasy of Gold to open all of their live performances

*Lobby shoot-out in The Matrix. Speaking of melding of music and imagery... maybe a close second to TGTBTU

I have some less than classic taste when it comes to movies, so please excuse that list does not reference Godfather, Citizen Kane, etc. I don't know if I could really come up with "all time definitive favourites" either, but without doing a lot of soul searching or checking my memory for movie data, I'll see what I come up with...

1. Well from what I'm hearing, probably something from FFVII: Advent Children. Since I haven't seen that, I'll go with Kung Fu Hustle / Shaolin Soccer (no specific fight that I can remember, but I recall loving these films). The fight scene in Ong Bak where the main character is in fight after fight, ending with a battle where the last guy smashes the room up is pretty great. Oh, and big props to the final boss battle in Iron Monkey (90s version) with the flaming logs.

2. "Yes, it's true your honour. This man has no dick" - Doctor Peter Venkman responding to the mayor's question "Is this true?" after Walter Peck had been called dickless (the mayor was of course asking about something else).

3. If Jennifer Love Hewitt had shown her boobs (and not just worn a very revealing semi-see through robe) in "I Still Know", that would have to be it considering the crush I had on her in the 90s. I don't really have a favourite, but from the video clip / screenshots I've seen, topless Jennifer Connely on the beach in "The Hot Spot" is super.

4. Star Wars series (the real ones). Obviously I love Ghostbusters. I loved the Batman series (even Forever, but not B&R) and love "Begins". The big oddity on my "movies I can repeatedly watch because I love" would have to be Short Circuit 2.

5. Ghostbusters is one of the first movies I can remember seeing, which is probably why it's my favourite movie (it's clearly not the best movie ever). Stay Puft was an iconic character in my childhood, although the cartoon spin off obviously helped these characters stay infused in my memory forever. Also, when I was 8, I was really moved by Ben's desire to get Johnny 5 back online after he used the last of his battery power to stop Oscar.

1. Favourite Action Sequence or Fight Sequence

Something from Time And Tide or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

2. Favourite One-liner/quote

Something from God of Gamblers or God of Gamblers Return.

3. Favourite Sex/Nude Scene

Probably the one from uh, shit. What was with movie with Hugh Grant and Elle Macpherson?

4. Favourite Movie (or movies, maybe up to 3or so)

God of Gamblers Return

Jin-Roh

Kid's Return

Hanabi

Well actually, anything involving Takeshi Kitano.

5. Favourite movie moments period, scenes that have left a lasting memory in you, or influenced you in some way.

From Jin-Roh - a young girl terrorist blowing herself up rather than being arrested.

From God of Gamblers Return - The wife of CYF's character dying while their unborn fetus is in a jar right next to her. The villain's men had basically cut the fetus out and left the wife for dead. None of this was actually shown, but it was still a fairly gruesome scene in an otherwise light-hearted movie.

1. Favourite Action Sequence or Fight Sequence

The fight in Ong-Bak that ends with the main character throwing his opponent through a window on the second story and then jumping out immediately after to knee him in the chest. That fight was so intense and reminded me of one of those classic ECW brawls.

That and a lot of the fights in Bloodsport, or most of Van Damme's old stuff. I need to go back and watch all of my old lame Van Damme flicks, because I remember a lot of them being quite good...when I was 10...so I'ma have to watch them again.

2. Favourite One-liner/quote

"I like this plan. I'm excited it might work! Let's do it!" - Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ghostbusters

3. Favourite Sex/Nude Scene

That would have to be the one between the Pirate Captain and Janine in Pirates.

4. Favourite Movie (or movies, maybe up to 3or so)

Much like DrVenkman, I love Ghostbusters. It's all I obsessed over from when I was 3 until...jeez...I wanna say when I was 8. That's the majority of my young childhood being able to quote the entire movie (my mother once muted it so I could spout off everybody's lines, and I did it perfectly).

I also have a huge amount of love for The Devil's Rejects because I can't really find too much wrong with it. It's a perfect homage to 70's exploitation crime flicks, and all of the characters are pretty well-defined throughout the movie, plus it asks the moral question of "is vengeance right?" towards the end, which is something most movies in the genre don't do.

5. Favourite movie moments period, scenes that have left a lasting memory in you, or influenced you in some way.

-

Shaun's mother dying in

Shaun of the Dead

-T-Bird constantly repeating "there ain't no coming back" when Eric has him duct-taped to his seat in The Crow.

-Splinter-in-the-eye from Zombie (Zombi 2).

-Jean-Claude Van Damme's SPINNING ROUNDHOUSE KICK OF DOOM in every flick he's in.
