I've decided to get a next gen system( though I am keeping my n64 for vpw2 purposes) so basically...what do you think I should get: Ps2 or Gamecube?

Right now i would say PS2, because the only thing on the cube that impresses me is the Res evil games, but ive already got them all for the PS2 and PS already, and plus Res evil online was announced for the PS2. The PS2 gets all the good fighting games (VF4, Tekken 4, Soul Calibur 2), where the Xbox and Cube only gets SC2, but i guess Smash bros makes up for that.

I got both.

I couldn't not have the upcoming games for GC.

Resident Evil 0

Resident Rvil 4

Super Mario Sunshine

Eternal Darkness

Metroid Prime

Legend of Zelda

Star Fox Adventures

a Star Fox shooter

and now Fire Pro is going there too.

I already had a PS2...but I couldn't pass up a GC.

Gamecube does have a very bright future and it's also the cheaper alternative.  The current game library battle is decisively in PS2's favor, though.

The game library always is and likely always will be with Sony.  The Playstation 2 costs a bit more, but you need it. I'm the idiot who bought an XBox, and I will end up purchasing both. As for me, I'm buying the GC for price alone, and sooner or later I'll buy the even more established PS2.  Get the PS2, then get the Gamecube because the price can only go down to even less.  You really need both because you'll be missing out on a lot of games either way.

I'm not aware of anything as far as playing cross-platform games (DC games on the PS2) through ISOs or any other form of emulation.

As for downloading PS and PS2 ISOs and burning them, it really depends on the ISO itself (whether it's self-booting or if you need a mod-chip.)

Overall, I wouldn't recommend buying a PS2 just for the piracy options (of which there are none on any of the next-gen platforms).  Just buy which ever one you like for the games it has.

Gamecube has Smash Bros. Melee, Resident Evil, and Super Monkey Ball, but will have a very solid winter of game releases.

Playstation2 has Grand Theft Auto 3, Final Fantasy IX, Metal Gear Solid 2, and many other quality games already.

You can pirate PS2 games. Most of the games fit on a CD-R, but some of the bigger ones require DVD-R's. There is a guy at the local flea market here that sells copies of PS2 games for $15 each, or buy 3 and get one free. Hard to pass up that deal.

Plus, there is a shitload of great PS1 games you can play as well. Hell, I still play Warhawk and Jumping Flash!

My best advice would be to get both if you have the dough.

I mean, I only have a GC, but sometimes I wish I had a PS2...

C.H.U.D. is right you can consider PS1 games to play on a PS2 (if you have any)...

But, I mean... how could anyone pass up Zelda?  Then, I turn too... how can people pass up FFXI?  Then, it goes to... how can you pass up Metriod Prime?  But, then what about MGS3?

It's just WAYY too hard to chose...
