Northeast Wrestling Danbury CT Report

Recommended Posts

So I went to this indy show here tonight at the request of a friend. My past experience with Indy Shows is sleazy promoters advertising big name stars that don't show up, but I ended up being plesently surprised. We were waiting in line for a bit, until a guy that works with my friend came out and waved for us to come in through the back with him. Just as we were walking towards the back, Christian, Chris Sabin, and Abyss (no mask) pulled up in their car. Sabin and Abyss just kind of went towards the back, but Christian stuck around for a bit and met with us, really nice guy. Christian, Sabin, Abyss, and Jim Duggan were all signing autographs (for a fee of course), and Tommy Dreamer showed up later too, and signed my new ECW book.

THe merchandise tables at this show were surprisingly good, they had newer shirts, and I was in heaven with all the tape dealers. I must have speant nearly 100 bucks on tapes tonight, I got some ECW stuff, including Mass Transit, WCW Souled Out 1997 which I've never been able to track down, The Terry Funk / Cactus Jack deathmatch show from Japan, Super J Cup 94, and some tape that was labled "Worst of WCW 2000" which I just couldn't pass up. One guy wanted 5 bucks a tape, which is a steal compared to what most other guys get for their stuff, so I bought most of my stuff from him, but his selection was smaller. The other guy that was there was BBrownVideo, his selection was huge, but his prices were higher, 10 bucks per tape, so I only bought a few from him.

The first match on the show was two local guys, Joe Daniels, and some other guy whose name I don't remember. This was very basic stuff, headlocks, irish whips, etc. It was nothing special, but it wasn't too bad. Joe Daniels won the match

Second match had some some big guy with his big fat manager get squashed by Jim Duggan. Duggan looked terrible, and if he's really doing this becasue he needs the money, and not because he loves doing it, then I truely feel bad for him.

Third match was another 2 local guys. Some blonde Ken Kennedy look alike, aagainst some guy with the word Curry on his tights. Similar to the first match, just a lot of basic stuff. The Blonde guy won.

Next up was Justin Credible and Tom Devito vs Ron Zombie, no DQ match. This wasn't very good at all, just a lot of weapons, and Devito ended up getting put through a table by Zombie. Zombie won the match.

After Intermission was Xavier vs Jay Lethal. This was a really good match, and made me appreciate the X-Division even more. I understand why TNA features thesse guys a lot, but it also gets kind of redundent after a while. Xavier won.

Tommy Dreamer came out next and explained that since he just signed a new WWE contract for ECW, that he was not able to wrestle, so he did ref duty for the next match.

Next up was Chris Sabin vs Abyss in a hardcore match. Usual Abyss stuff, he hits all his power moves, while Sabin is reletively unsuccessful with his high flying offense. Abyss ended up attacking Dreamer after he pulled him off Sabin when he was choking him int he corer. Dreamer came back and beat Abyss with the Kendo Stick. Match went No Contest after Abyss walked to the back.

Some tag team called Sex and Violins doing a wannabe AMW gimmick came out next. They fought The Heart THrobs. Supposedly from what I hear, The Heart Throbs aren't even booked regularly, they just follow the promotion around and hope for a payday. This match was ok, but nothing special. Heart Throbs had some stripper looking chick with them, who distracted one of the Sex and Violins guys and allowed Heart Throbs to get the pinned.

Finally the main event was Christian Cage vs AJ Styles. This was really good, all the major sports were his, including Styles Spinal Tap. Match ended with the Unprettier on Styles allowing Christian to get the pin.

Overall this was a great show, it definitely increased my respect for TNA, and Christian and Dreamer were really nice guys as well. I'd definitley go to the next one when they come around.

Its not Sex and Violins, LOL, its Sex & Violence.

The first match was Josh Daniels vs. Damian Adams who have wrestled hundreds of times, so of course (As would be expected) their match was good.

Jerry Lawler and Dusty Rhodes didn't appear as was hyped which pissed me off.

A rep from RF Video (not RF or Doug) was there selling tapes.

What you failed to mention was that Dreamer TOTALLY put over TNA in his promo. ("I am a fan of TNA")

Also line of the night goes to Dreamer, as he served Abyss - "Are you half-man or half-beast and is that beast a pussy cat?"

spman, was Dreamer signing autographs for free or was he charging??
