Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted June 4, 2002 Eddy Guerrero and Chris Benoit are two of the best wrestlers in the world today. But who is really the better of them? This is an analysis of certain qualities and who is better at what. 1. Variation of styles. Benoit: Benoit is one of the best technical wrestlers ever, he has a ground moveset to rival Dean Malenko or Bret Hart. Benoit has also been in fantasic brawls for his feud with Kevin Sullivan. Guerrero: Eddy can brawl if the need is there, he is more of a flyer and steady worker, his matches with Dean Malenko have forced him to be a ground wrestler, his feud with RVD produced 3 great matches, including a ladder match. In 1997 Eddy and Syxx had a ladder match that was almost *****. Conclusion: Guerrero 2. Good matches. Benoit: Benoit has been a part of some of the greatest matches ever. His Super J-Cup final with The Great Sasuke, his 1993 Super Juniors match with El Samauri, and his many fights with Lyger. He dragged Kevin Sullivan's lazy ass to a ***** match at GAB 1996. Guerrero: Guerrero vs Mysterio in HH 1997 is an absolute classic, He took Syxx to his last great match, his afforementioned feud with RVD, and his BOSJ 1996 final with Lyger are all great. Conclusion: RVD, Rey Rey, and Lyger are great wokers, 1993 El Samauri sucked, give it to Benoit. 3. Character. Benoit: Benoit lets ring work talk for him, his WCW name was Silent but Violent. A nice touch, but not much character depth. Guerrero: Eddy has the most racist type of character since "Bunkhouse Brown" in Memphis. He also seems to have fun with it. In 1998 he made a catchphrase out of "Cheat To Win" that is still popular today. He is the originator of knowingly self promoting, as his first T-Shirt said "Eddy Guerrero is my favorite wrestler" Conclusion: Guerrero 4. Moveset. Benoit: Benoit usualy keeps his matches on the ground until he starts to pull out his usual stuff. Snap Suplex, Rolling Germans (a great website has the same name), headbutt, Crossface. Guererro: Eddy doens't seem to have a very consistant moveset. He usualy just uses "whatever". Aside from Frogsplash, he doesn't do anything that I've seen regulary, exept the face twist on the boot. Conclusion: Benoit Final Conclusion: Eddy can work more styles and has a better character, Benoit can put on better matches and has a more well rounded moveset. I have to say Guerrero because the character issue is very important. But it shows why these two are so damn great. Feel free to disagree on any issues and leave feedback. Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted June 4, 2002 Eddy has had some horrible matches too. He is far less consistent than Benoit is. For that reason alone, Benoit wins easily. Granted Eddy's best match (vs. Mysterio at Havoc 1997) is better than Benoit's best match (vs. Hart on Nitro, Owen Hart Memorial), but to me Benoit is head and shoulders above Guerrero as a performer. I guess the big disagreement I have with you is that I feel that character is not nearly as important as ring skill. ------ Whoops! This is a Smark Krew post, so I better say something. I found nothing wrong with it, other than the fact that I disagree with it.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted June 4, 2002 I'll add a bad matches category and see how it turns out. 5. Bad matches, Benoit: Benoit has almost never had a bad match. In 1997 he had to carry Meng and they never made it over **, Benoit was also forced to show why Sid is "The biggest piece of luggage in wrestling", Guerrero: Eddy also has many good matches, but bad ones are more common. Some of Eddy's worst matches have been from opponents who he's had great ones with. Eddy and Dean Malenko's Starrcade 1997 match stunk, Eddy and Chavo Jr's 1998 feud was totaly unwatchable, save for Chavo's crazy gimmick. Twords the end of 1999, The Filthy Animals vs Revolution feud was getting hard on the eyes. Conclsuion: Eddy's bad matches are worse by a landslide. I guess Benoit is the best now, Eddy has it all over him in the character department though, if anyone can think of some more categories then let's hear them. Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted June 5, 2002 I like Benoit better. No real science here, just my personal preference.

Am I the only one who liked the 97' Starcade match? And personally I thought the chavo fued was good except the crazy gimmick. Post 1999 WCW eddy blew though Tough Question: Which is the better heel? Face?
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted June 5, 2002 I think Eddy is better in both of the roles. That's where character comes in, Eddy has a much better character and it shows in his heel and face personas Look at 1997 face Benoit, if he wasn't fighting Kevin Sullivan or the nWo, how do you know he's a face? Same with 1999 heel Benoit, if he's not with Flair why is he a heel? It's not his doing, its more of his feuds. In 1997 he was a face feuding with Sullivan, then he joined Flair in a Piper beatdown to go heel, and was a face one week later, still feuding with Sullivan When Eddy is a heel or a face you can tell. 1998 Heel Eddy would do just like his T-Shirt and Cheat To Win. When he lost at the last CoC to Jericho he beat him down, he abused the hell out of his young nephew Chavo, When Eddy was a face in 1996-early 1997 he was always acting like a gentleman. Giving his time freely, never a bad thing to say about any other wrestler, prasied opponenets who'd beaten him.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted June 5, 2002 I say we have a best of seven, two out of three fall match series to see who is the better wrestler ;-)
