Top 5 Favorite Wrestlers of all time

Who are your type 5 wrestlers of all time?

Mine are:

 

1. Ricky Steamboat. Great athlete and had 4 of the greatest matches of all time.

2. Ric Flair. Tremendous athlete that really can have a great match with almost anyone but i have to give the top nod to Steamboat.

3. Bret Hart. Much like Flair, a tremendous wrestler and an extremely gifted athlete.

4. Chris Benoit. He reminds me of Steamboat and Flair in a way that he can have great matches with almost anyone. He is one helluva brawler and a great wrestler.

5. Kurt Angle. In his short pro career, he has had some of the greatest matches from his debut to now. Stellar athlete that can have a good brawl and can flat out wrestle.

5. Dynamite Kid...I didn't see much of him when I was younger, but going through old tapes you really get to appreciate what he's done for the business and the impact he's left behind.

 

4. Roddy Piper...the first heel I really got into...as far as ringwork many were better...but Roddy was the absolute best on the mic.

 

3. Bret/Owen Hart...I like them equally, both two of the finest workers to every get in a ring, and NO I am not one of these Owen bandwagon jumpers, I have been a real fan of his since the early/mid 90s.

 

2. Chris Benoit...What can I really say about Benoit that everyone else here hasn't said 100 times already.

 

1. Mikey Whipwreck...I've been a huge Mikey mark ever since I got into ECW. Good gimmicks, hard worker, good matches. Nice guy too.

1) Flair - was the reason why I watch wrestling on Saturday night, Flair vs Sting at Clash of Champions, made Sting the #1 face of the company forever.

 

2) Sting - the buzz cut blond, with cool face paint

 

3) Bret Hart - was great against Owen, Austin, HBK but the WCW stint was boring.

 

4) Savage - Always looked good in the big matches

 

5) Beniot - always liked him as a Horseman and the cage matches against Raven & DDP

5. rob van dam - everybody's favorite wrestler is on my list at number five.  i have been following rvd for since he started in ecw and he has always been a top performer in the ring.  his unique style makes for more entertaing and fast paced matches.  plus he's a major pothead.

 

4. davey boy smith - R.I.P.  as i watched wrestling growing up there as no better tag team than the british bulldogs.  davey boy and dynamite were wrestling in a style that was much more exciting to watch that the hulk hogan's and andre the giant's were wrestling.  davey went on to much more success in the wwf and wcw and i'm proud to say that i followed his career with great interest during the 90's and seen a lot of his terrific matches.

 

3. owen hart - the second person in my top five that has passed on.  sadly owen's career was cut way too short as he was still enjoying success in the wwf at the time of his death.  in the years he spent in the wwf he put together a lot of outstanding matches, and humorous moments.  his feud with bret hart was one of the more technically sound feuds in the wwf's history, and they produced two of the best mathes of all time.

 

2. bret hart - this guy was the reason i loved the hart foundation back in the late 80's.  bret and jim neidhart were a great tag team, but after he broke away from neidhart his career took off.  he was an ic champion and then in a shocking win became the wwf champion, beating ric flair, in a moment that had me jumping for joy.  bret enjoyed great success in the wwf until the montreal incident in 1997 and then went to the wcw where he didn't have the same luck.  he did become wcw champion but his carerr was cut far too short by a stiff goldberg kick to the head.  still bret was the man during his wwf stay and that was what i grew up watching.  still hoping for his big comeback.

 

1. tommy dreamer - i love this guy.  his heart, and determination instantly made me a fan and after watching a few of his matches.  the love tommy had for ecw while it was still alive was umatched (except for heyman maybe), and the fans respected the hell out of him for it.  his feud with raven was an amazing epic battle and probably the greatest in ecw's short history.  after ecw died tommy was reborn in the indies and his matches were improving my leaps and bounds.  on july 9th, 2001, tommy and rvd did a run in on raw that would bring ecw from the ashes and into the invasion.  although the invasion was a clusterfuck and tommy didn't really see any action, he appears to be moving up a little now, although eating disgusting things may not seem like much of a push.  At least now he is appearing on Raw more these days and even wrestling the Undertaker, which I see as a step in the positive direction.

1-Flair, in his 4th decade of having great matches, best mic skills ever, IMO.

2-Dynamite Kid, Barring injury, this guy would still be the ungodly shit and 2 steps ahead of the competition. Totally innovative, a huge influence on many wrestlers after him. He also kept Sayama from flying into orbit during their matches by helpfully driving his Tiger Mask clad head into the mat with AUTHORITY.

3.-Bret Hart, no one else in the WWF has had as many ****+ matches on PPV as Bret. Great brawls, great tag matches, great wrestling clinics, great as either a heel or face.

4.-Shawn Michaels, Redefined the WWF "style", had a run in 96 unparalleled by anyone but 89 Flair, IMO.

5.-Vader, large and frightening, can do MOONSAULTS, great matches in both america and japan.

1. Bret "Hitman" Hart - A God of professional wrestling and my hero since i was 9 years old. Bret is the greatest, hands down.

 

2. Shawn Michaels - Although i didn't always like the guy, there is no denying how good he was in the ring.

 

3. "Macho Man" Randy Savage - A little under-rated if you ask me, its always been about Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Ric Flair. I believe Savage was superior to them all, one HELL of an entertainer, well into his fourties he could put guys 20 years his junior to shame.

 

4. The Undertaker - Say what you will, but he remains the most successful gimmick wrestler in the history of the WWF, or in wrestling all together for that matter. He has had his fair share of classics too.

 

5. Mick Foley - Speaking of cool ass gimmicks, Mankind was one mean, nasty charecter, and i loved it. On top of that, all the sick bumps Foley used to take made wrestling worth watching. He deserves credit for what he has done for wrestling over the course of his career.

Hitman Jebus - the #1 Hart Foundation mark in Montreal...Quebec, Canada

1) Shawn Michaels: Since the day he turned heel, I was pretty much always an HBK mark. Even during 93-94 when I couldn't stand the guy, I would still walk around doing the HBK poses and pull out Superkicks when I was wrestling my friends. Greatest of all time, IMO.

 

2) Steve Austin: Don't like him as much now, but I've been a fan of his pretty much since he and Pillman got together. Bulldog got me to pay attention to WCW in 93, the Blondes kept me watching. And I'll never forget the day he first appeared on ECW mocking Hogan. Classic. And he and HBK were Tag Champs in 97. What more can I say?

 

3) Brian Pillman: Hollywood Blondes again, and I loved him as the Loose Cannon. I actually went into a pretty bad depression when he died in 97. It took me at least 3 or 4 months to get over it. He was always one of my favorites.

 

4) Chyna: From her DX days, plus I had a pretty big crush on her when I was younger (SHUT UP).

 

5) Mr. Perfect: I really didn't start following wrestling until 91, and the only Perfect match I saw during the period was the match with Bret from SummerSlam, so most of the memories I have of him are from his face period in 92-93. I used to love when they played the vingettes of him with sports stars where he was trying to show how perfect he was. My favorite was the time he threw a 100 yard pass to himself and caught it (I can't tell you how many times I tried that that summer). My favorite matches during this period were the one with Bret at KOTR, and his retirement match with Flair on the January Raw.

2. '98 Stone Cold Steve Austin- The best year to be a die-hard wrestling fan.

3. Sting. At any point in his career.

4.  Chris Jericho- Of course, it started in WCW. How's about "Conspiracy Victim", "the man of 1,004 holds", and the Konnan TV Title investigation?....GOLD!

5. Ric Flair- Any federation, any era, any match.

6. Kurt Angle- The first wrestler I have unanimously marked for since his in-ring debut.

7. The Rock- Heel Corporation Rock preferred.

8. Owen Hart- "3:16: I Just Broke Your Neck" and Hart Foundation is the key period.

9. Booker T. Best of 7 series w/ Benoit. All singles title reigns. Current gimmick.

1. Hulk Hogan- From 1984-1988 he was the top man in the business classic matches with Andre, Bundy, Studd, Warrior, Perfect, And Ric Flair.

1. Al Snow - I dunno, his character in ECW was just too....weird to not like.  Plus, I have a thing for liking someone not many others do.  But I've come to terms that he'll never get his due.  Oh well.

 

2. Ted Dibiase - Back when I was young kid and the WWF tried to brainwash everyone to like the faces, Dibiase would always stand out as a favorite of mine.  It was the right character at the right time.

 

3. The Rockers - Again, young kid... flashy outfits...fun loving dudes.... high flying moves... couldn't help it

 

4. RVD - Eh, I actually hated him during his ECW days, but when he first showed up on WWF TV, he was a fresh face bringing a new style and when he was actually putting on good matches... well... the rest is history

I put Micheals in my top 5 only because of the many many classic matches he's had...But, deep down, I always wanted Jannetty to come back and beat the crap out of HBK...If Jannetty would have stayed in the big leagues, I'm sure he'd be way high on my all-time faves list!
