Guest Report post Posted June 4, 2002 I just saw Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back on Saturday and damn was that movie fucking funny! I laughed at every scene and laughed so damn hard at the end. I was suprised at how they carried the stories from previous Kevin Smith movies so well and the cameos. Chris Rock, George Carlin, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamil, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek, Will Ferell, Elisa Dushku, Shannon Elizabeth, Judd Nelson! The movie had me rolling on the floor. It is just so sad that Smith is retiring Jay and Silent Bob for good. But don't worry, he'll still work with him in comics, and there is a Clerks animated sequel coming out later this year. Jason Kewe (Jay) is starring in a horror movie called R.S.V.P. this December so it is not like they are retiring. Still, it is sad that Jay and Silent Bob are gone. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted June 4, 2002 I think J&SBSB is Kevin Smith's worst movie...the movie made me laugh a little...but they were all over dick and fart type jokes, there was nothing that was just hysterical. And when they make a joke then look into the camera, that's funny once, but not 4 or 5 times. I was very disapointed....I think Smiths movies get worse as he makes more... Clerks Mallrats Chasing Amy Dogma J&SBSB I like them in that order, I hope Jersey Girl is better.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted June 5, 2002 Well View Askew has a cult following and I guess they wanted JSBSB to go mainstream which is why it included all those dick and fart jokes. I don't think the movie is all that bad...Smith was smart not to have the Wayans Bros. playing Affleck and Damon in the Good Will Hunting 2 sketch.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted June 5, 2002 I thought the movie was hilarious. When I saw it in the theatre, everyone was laughing out loud. One of the more funnier movies to come out in a while, IMO.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 5, 2002 They did go too far with the Ass Cock jokes. Mark Hamil guest apperance was funny!!!
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 5, 2002 the movie is terrific. I think it is easily the funniest of kevin smith's features. at first i was sure I would be able to take a whole movie starring jay and silent bob but it was too funny. DOOBIE SNACKS!! Guest raptor Report post Posted June 5, 2002 They did go too far with the Ass Cock jokes. That's why it wasn't in the actual movie, I believe. By the way, as a huge Kevin Smith fan, I believe this ranks up there as one of his funniest films. But then again, I liked Mallrats . It's also Jason "Mewes," so he may not be in that aforementioned horror movie. Last I heard, he was on the run from a drug charge.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted June 5, 2002 1. Chasing Amy 2. Dogma 3. Clerks 4. J&SBSB 5. Mallrats Let us never speak of this again.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted June 5, 2002 I'd rank 'em more like: 1. Clerks 2. Dogma 3. Chasing Amy 4. Mallrats 5. J&SBSB To me, J&SBSB seemed like watching Kevin Smith jerking off for ninety minutes. I felt like it was more like an excuse for a movie than an actual movie. Did we really need the incredibly unfunny Will Ferril's role to be so big, did we really need all the sex & fluids jokes, and did we really need all those really horrible "actresses" killing half an hour with a worthless Charlie's Angels parody? Last I heard, he was on the run from a drug charge. Now THAT'S funny.
Guest Report post Posted June 5, 2002 I'd rank 'em more like: 1. Clerks 2. Dogma 3. Chasing Amy 4. Mallrats 5. J&SBSB That is EXACTLY how I rank them. I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan, but J&SBSB was an embarassment. I can't honestly think of why anyone over 12 would think it was a good, funny comedy. (No offense people who disagree) How bad does a movie have to be for WILL FERRELL to be not funny?
Guest caboose Report post Posted June 5, 2002 I admit I laughed out loud at J&SBSB, but the American Pie and Dawson's Creek appearances are Kevin Smith just selling out.

Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 5, 2002 But the part with Vanderbeek and Biggs was funny as hell. Along with any scene with Affleck, Jason Lee, the Chris Rock scenes and the With Ferrell were funny(unfunny!!!! WHAT!!! WIll Ferrell is da man) And you should ever EVER say put the words horrible actresses in a sentence that even remotely has anything to do with Eliza Dushku. Yeah, Smiths wife, and Shannon Elizabeth were not to conviencing but Dushku and Ali Larter RULED it. I too didn't laugh at the fart jokes and such, but the stuff in between was funny as hell to me (I personally think they should have left in the ass-cock jokes and the "Jet" bits). Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 5, 2002 I still feel that Chasing Amy was just a great movie...Kevin Smith or no. It had a great story(although I am still trying to figure out Holdens logic there) great acting, and Jay and bob were used PERFECTLY and realistically. Alot of people were just expecting another laugh riot from the comedy writer Smith, but it was a great comedy-drama.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted June 5, 2002 Rock and Ferrell were very unfunny in the movie. I usually find Chris Rock very funny, but it was just a lame attempt to get another big name in his movie. Very disapointing.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 5, 2002 I think it was more people wanting to be in the movie than lame attempt at getting stars. Salma Hayek says she was really mad she didn't get to be in it. Basically everyone from the movies before were in it, so why not Chris Rock. "Does yo daddy know you give a nigga his coffee?" was the line that had me rolling. Rock- "I know its in there...taste the booga flaver." Kennedy- "Theres no boogers in it sir" Rock" Go get me another coffee...decrackanated." Kennedy-"you the man sir" Rock- "NO you the man and thats the problem!" That shiot was funny.
Guest Report post Posted June 5, 2002 the whole movie was dissapointing. It was extremly crapy compared to other smith movies. The worst of the bunch. --Rob
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted June 5, 2002 For what it was I liked it. It was a good way to end the View Askewniverse series and I liked all the inside jokes and stuff. Will Ferrel wasn't as funny as in Celebrity Jeopardy, but he wasn't UNfunny either, he was just kinda there and sometimes he was funny
Guest Report post Posted June 5, 2002 It is Jason Mewes but he is starring in that horror movie coming up. I think the whole point was that Jay and Silent Bob are cult favorites as in "not popular in the mainstream world" which is why the movie wasn't a hit in theatres. In fact, I think Kevin Smith KNEW that the movie wasn't going to be a hit in theatres even mocking it with the Bluntman and Chronic pic. He just made this flick to have his creations ride off into the sunset not to make a hit. Add to the fact that this movie came out a few like 2 weeks before September 11th and suddenly, laughing at two stoners seem trivial so this movie had no chance in hell of being a hit and I think Smith knew it. I'm still hoping to see Jay and Silent Bob back someday.
Guest Report post Posted June 5, 2002 All Kevin Smith movies aren't exactly what you call "Box Office Hits" like Star Wars or Independance Day but they have a cult following. Go to Trooperclerk.com to see a funny Star Wars parody featuring the characters from "Clerks" and "Mallrats."
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted June 5, 2002 Am I the only one that didn't find Dogma funny but then i wasn't stoned so my valid doesn't count.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted June 5, 2002 dogma was really funny I though, and I've been fucking ripped everytime i've seen it.
Guest Report post Posted June 5, 2002 dogma was not very funny a tall, afew good jabs but it was still better than jay and silent bob strike back. --Rob
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 6, 2002 Smith might not have a huge gross at the theater, but any time a movie make 4-5 times what was put in it, it was a success. If 2 Million is spent on the movie and promotions and it makes 20, it is a success to the studios, just not in the eyes of the world. He has a cult following, true, but all his movies have garnered enough intrest to at least spike the gross to be lightyears above what the cost of the movie was. Add that in with the DVD and Video tape sales that are allways stellar for Viewaskiewe movies and the studios will love Kevin Smith forever.
