NHL 2006 Off-Season...

But really, Jagr was the MVP.

And I realize the playoffs aren't counted, but anybody who sawv the rangers in the playoffs could tell the Rangers were the worst team in the league without him.

2585.gif

I beg your pardon?

A guy who'd probably be a second or third line centre elsewhere won the Richard, thanks to the playmaking of the Ross winner. The Sharks were well under .500 at the same time. They made the playoffs. That's MVP worthy.

I don't have a problem with Jagr getting the Pearson, however.

And Jagr was basically responsible for the career years of Nylander and Straka, and had a HUGE impact on Prucha's emergence. Nylander and Straka couldn't finish for shit, put an real goal scorer on his line that can actually finish and he would have had 150+ points.

I don't buy

put an honest goal scorer on his line and he would have had 150+ points
that argument. Joe had a decent goalscorer on his line with NILS FUCKING EKMAN and WOULD have had 150 points if he played in San Jose all year. Cheechoo was trash before Joe came there, just look at the stats. It's simply ridiculous.

Straka's always been a good player.

And I'll leave it at that.

Thornton winning the Hart was pretty much guaranteed once the Sharks made the playoffs.

The key question is, if you take each player off their respective teams, what happens? Well, we know what happens to the Sharks -- they have a miserable season and miss the playoffs by a mile. The Rangers probably squeak in as a bottom seed in the East, just because of Lundqvist's incredible season. The fact that the voters had tangible evidence of the Sharks with and without Thornton made it that much easier to vote for him over Jagr.

The more I think about it, the more I think Kiprusoff deserved the Hart or some slice of the award.

We know where they would be if he wasn't there, which is waiting for the Blues, Pens and Blackhawks to make their picks on Saturday. They'd seriously be picking 4th even with Iginla and Phaneuf (they're the reason he doesn't get talked about it).

Thorton also had PATRICK MARLEAU, a pretty damn great player who had 90+ points on the 2nd line for D guys to worry about, while Jagr had Steve Rucchin, Prucha (who Jagr basically made), and Petr Sykora (who again Jagr was basically responsible for)

edit: DID ANYBODY WATCH THE PLAYOFFS!?!? The Rangers couldn't do SHIT on offesnse without Jagr. The Panthers had Lungo standing on his head the entire year and didn't make the playoffs. The Rangers I guarantee are DEAD last without Jagr.

Marleau doesn't score that many points with everyone keying on him and not Thornton. Not even close. He had 23 points in 24 games before Thornton arrived. He nearly doubled that in Thornton's first SEVEN games.

How does Luongo enter this conversation? The Panthers missed the playoffs because the Panthers had a shitty, shitty defense, as always. Luongo couldn't have possibly sent that team to the playoffs facing nearly 2500 shots. The Rangers' D was tons better.

Realistically, Jagr's year wins the Hart in any of the clutch and grab years by a humongous margin. Joe made everything about his team better.

Plus, Joe choked in the playoffs like he always does, so who really cares.

So just because we got to see what happened when Thorton wasn't on the Sharks, but didn't get to see what would have happened if Jagr wasn't on the Rangers, Thorton should get MVP?

edit: The Rangers D consisted of Marek Malik and Rosival as the top pairing. COME ON.

That's true. Too bad Jagr was the drizzling shits in the clutch-and-grab years for the most part; he could have had five or six Harts by now.

The Pearson is the real MVP trophy so you're really arguing over nothing. Anybody involved with either organization will tell you so.

Theodore won a Hart........Jose Fucking Theodore. That's what I think about the Hart. Iginla's won the Pearson as well as Naslund. It's a better trophy.

The writers vote for the most amazing, the players association votes for the best. Jagr is the best player in the league.

Anyone have a link to the actual voting breakdown where we can see where all the players ended up and whatnot?

Looks like Pronger wants out of Edmonton:

Sportsnet.ca -- The Oilers' improbable run to the Stanley Cup finals may ultimately end with the trade of one of the team's biggest contributors: Chris Pronger.

According to Sportsnet sources, Pronger wants out.

The defenceman is believed to have some personal issues that may be alleviated by a move.

Neither the Oilers nor the Pronger camp will comment on the matter with respect to the hulking defenceman's privacy. However, it is believed Pronger made his position clear with Edmonton's management before departing for a vacation Friday morning.

Word of his unrest surfaced prior to the playoffs, and with it the understanding that trade discussions between Pronger and Kevin Lowe had taken place during the season.

However, the Oilers run to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final overshadowed Pronger's personal battles and it was hoped Edmonton's post-season success would help soothe his geographic battles.

Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case and the topic was raised earlier this week.

"He wants out," a source close to the situation told Sportsnet.

Question is, will the Oilers appease Pronger or hold him accountable to a contract that has four years remaining?

It most certainly will be a hot topic of discussion this weekend at the Entry Draft; lumped in with the ongoing speculation around Roberto Luongo's future in Florida.

Knowing the situation, maybe a Pronger for Luongo swap makes sense? Assuming of course, Pronger and family would relocate to Florida and Luongo will agree to any multi-year deal.

Perhaps a move back to St. Louis is what the player is after?

Regardless, Kevin Lowe and the Edmonton Oilers hold the cards and if trade is considered this weekend, the asking price will be understandably high.

Not just that, Havlat wants out of Ottawa or wants a one-year deal only.

I highly doubt the Pronger thing, but a reporter out of St. Louis said that he talks with Pronger often and that he's approached management about a trade throughout the season.

Well considering it's coming from Sportsnet, it is a very reliable source.

Edmonton will be fucked if Pronger goes. He was problay their emotional leader.

Bill Clement confirmed the Pronger story, so he wants out.

The return for him will be huge.

Something's going to go down at the draft tomorrow, with Columbus shopping Denis, Tampa and Toronto looking for a goaltender, and Giguere and Luongo available. The Pronger thing will take a while.

SLAM! HOCKEY: reports the Pittsburgh Penguins may be preparing to trade their first round pick, second overall, tomorrow. Rumour has it the Nashville Predators have offered up defenceman Shea Weber in exchange for the pick.

Weber is VERY good, but a little more would need to be added.

To Vancouver: Roberto Luongo, Lukas Krajicek, 6th Round Pick

To Florida: Todd Bertuzzi, Alex Auld, Bryan Allen

Did Florida really fuck their future up by getting Bertuzzi?

Just what the 'Canes needed. A headcase who could choose to end someone's career at any moment in their division. Hope he stays away from Cam Ward and Eric Staal.

Where does that leave the goalie situation in Florida? Luongo was pretty much the only bright spot on their team.

Auld will start, he's passable. With Keenan running the team, I don't know what's going to happen. They were a team to watch out for and could have gotten more for Luongo. Florida has to resign Bertuzzi at the end of next season....stupid stupid stupid.

Vancouver has a lot of questions to answer now, and they have to answer them while saving cap room for Luongo's pricey extension.

I dunno if this deal is as good for Vancouver as they might think. Krajicek's a downgrade on Allen, and they really needed to get a blueliner for Bertuzzi.

This is an absolute win for Vancouver.

A bit of a headache is solved with Big Bert gone, about 2 mil in salary is cleared from Bert's monster paycheque. They can shop for a good power forward to replace him with they money the save.

Krajciek is about equal to Allen IMO, so maybe pick up a prospect. Use the saved money to get a good power forward.

Did I mention that the Canucks now have one of the league's three best goalies?

But not a total loss for Vancouver. The change of address did well for Heatley, who's to say it won't here? And while it seems kinda down for Florida, Auld does have potential, and Keenan and Dudley do know what they're doing.

boy, the panthers got fleeced. bertuzzi is damaged goods. though luongo hasnt exactly established himself as a championship goalie. maybe too much hype? either way, canucks got the better of the deal.

pronger ditching on the oilers is disappointing. but really, edmonton is a FUCKING shithole to live in. its like the detroit of canada.

Yeah Edmonton is a dirty city. The air there is disgusting. Calgary >>>>> Edmonton anyday of the week.

With that said where will Pronger go?

St. Louis is the most likely candidate, but I could see him going to LA Kings.

Vancouver made out like absolute bandits in this trade. They get one of the league's premier goalies and don't have to give up anything big. Bertuzzi's on his way down. Even if they can't resign Luongo after this season, they finally have someone in net that will allow them to make a run at the Cup this season.

Florida's chances of making the playoffs just took a huge step backward. They desperately need some good blueliners, because there's no way they're going to give up 2500+ shots on goal per season, as they have been, and remain competitive with Alex Auld in net instead of Luongo.
