No picture in AVI file

Recommended Posts

I just downloaded an AVI file of last night's ECW show. The audio is fine but the video won't play on WMP or Winamp. I ran it through GSpot to see if I'm missing any codecs. It notes that it needs XviD which I already have.

In the 'Comments / Metadata' box, it lists "JUNK" under the code, "(ASCII in junk trunk)" under the name, and "odmldmlh" under comments.

Also, I clicked the Render button which listed a partial failure. The error message was "0x00040242: VFW_S_PARTIAL_RENDER - Some of the streams in this movie are in an unsupported format."

I'm not sure if this is too much info or not enough but any help would certainly be appreciated.

I have the SAME exact problem as you. I have all the right codecs, too.

i use the K-Lite Codec Pack.

Try using the VLC Media Player.

Interface isn't pretty, but it's the best at playing whatever you throw at it.

I second this. I haven't found anything that this little program can't play.

Thanks for the tip.

I tried playing the file again and the blasted video still won't play. It says "The AVI file is broken. Seeking will not work correctly." Then, it gives me an option to repair, so I do and the video still doesn't play. Another error pops up stating it's an "Unrecognized format".

That said, I do appreciate the help.

Thirded, I've never had a file it won't play.

But, like you said, the interface sucks, I'd prefer using WMP or such. Anyone have a fix?

Maybe your file is just bad then, or didn't download correctly. Sorry. :(

As for WMP... I don't know. There's many codecs and junk you can get for it.
