Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2006 We have, and it plays into why I can't see someone claiming this is Pink Floyd's best album. "Echoes" eats up half of the total running time, when only half of "Echoes" itself is really solid. But the good parts, boy, they almost make up for the rest. Oh, and "Echoes" > "Atom Heart Mother," but then who'll disagree?
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 13, 2006 "One of These Days" is no slouch. Even "A Pillow of Winds" is a happy little sleepy number which provides nice contrast after the opener.
Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2006 Meddle has always been one of my personal favorites, but Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon are both stronger albums from top to bottom. And you are correct that Seamus and San Tropez drag Meddle down a little bit, but it's the other 4 songs that make up the meat of the album. And in particular, Echoes and Fearless are both classic stuff. Echoes isn't as consistently good as Shine On You Crazy Diamond (when treated as a single 25 minute song) but some of the sections are just brilliant and the vision it must have taken to create such a song is awe inspiring. Guest Felonies! Report post Posted July 13, 2006 The vision was "hey, get all those ideas for songs we didn't use yet and make a bigass song out of them." They didn't write the New World Symphony here, geez.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 13, 2006 I really don't like WYWH.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2006 Me neither. The title track is nice—even with the cheesy synthesizer and ho-hum lyrics—and "SOYCD" is good in stretches, but yeesh, the rest of the album is unrelentingly dull.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted July 13, 2006 Meh. I've always loved the other two middle tracks. There's interesting stuff going on there.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2006 Animals and Meddle are the best two PF albums. No one gives props to Division Bell though. Underrated album.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted July 13, 2006 What are you talking about? Everyone gives props to The Division Bell. It's always ranked higher than you'd expect a 1994 followup to AMLOR to be.
