Edge possibly out 12-15 weeks

Recommended Posts

Guest bcu1979

Lance Storm mentioned on his website that Edge is supposed to be out 12-15 weeks after he has surgery on his shoulder. But he is looking for a second opinion.

Assuming the worst and Edge is out for 4 months, who steps up in his place on the babyface side for the Smackdown roster? All you have right now is Triple H and Hogan. And Hogan might disappear after KOTR before he reappears for his SummerSlam match with Vince.

After that it's pretty much slim pickings. Rikishi is pretty much a dead character. If you have to stick your ass in another man's face to get a crowd reaction, it's time for you to go.

It looks like Val Venis might get a shot and he's certainly capable of putting on good matches against the likes of Jericho and Angle. But that stupid Valbowski name makes him sound like a comedy character.

Who else is there? If you turn Angle or Jericho face, then you've depleted the heel side. Will the WWE be forced to <gasp> actually start elevating some new talent like J.R. has talked about now for two years? Or will they just make a trade and move Nash and Michaels over to Smackdown?

Who would WWE push:

Test

Albert

Rikishi

or maybe a returning HAKU~!

Take your pick.

Yes, Haku... he can use the TONGAN DEATH GRIP OF ETERNAL DAMNATION~! and demolish the likes of The Undertaker and Kurt Angle.

I would like for Val Venis to get the opportunity. I would be happy with that. I have thought that he had the "look" for a long time now. I know that he has the in-ring skills, and I am personally fond of his microphone work as well.

I thought we would be trying to come up with ideas that didn't suck??

With the exception of a possible Val push I dont want to see any of those guys get any  further up then they are. HAKU???? Since when would pushing Haku be considered a good thing.

I think they should drop the whole Val Venis/Valbowski thing altogether and maybe just call him Sean Morley or something normal.

I also think the continued push of guys like Randy Orton is a good thing.

Maybe they will (*gasp!*) concentrate on the cruiserweight division and just have a few heavyweight matches instead of just one cruiserweight match per show.

If they could come up with someone for Test to feud with, he could be a tremendous assett to the WWF. How can you not see the potential in Haku? The crazy island man. That's the only gimmick he needs. I could just picture him running into random matches, beating up everyone, yelling something in his native tounge into the mic, then running off. Give him a catchphrase in his language, something catchy, that also fits his character. He could be great.

The ironic thing about this is that with all these people whining about how Edge doesn't deserve to be elevated and blah blah blah now that he's hurt, nobody can think of a suitable replacement for his role.

Val Venis will be used as a fodder since he and Edge are buddies.

Christian could have done it, had he not bitched about his character, WWE has no probelms forgetting past history.

Can someone tell me if Bob Holly turned face and I just forgot about it. One week he's kicking Randy Orton's ass and now he's in a feud with Kurt Angle, was it like the Too Cool 1999 face turn, and Tajiri and Hurricane's 2001 face turns, nothing special  they were just so over that they turned face, exept for the part about Holly being over.

Do you have a point? Edge should be grouped along with the "not suitable replacement" type group. Edge didn't deserve it either. Just because we can't think of anyone now that Edge is gone, doesn't mean he is any better than the shitty other prospects.

That's nice. I like Randy Orton. I'm not calling for him to be pushed to the moon.

You can't call for Randy Orton to be pushed to the moon, you too busy complaining that Angle is a mid-card wrestler and not the main event.

I'm not going to argue with you, because it obviously won't get anywhere.

I will say this, Randy Orton has talent, and his time will come. I thought that it was Edge's time, and apparently so did the WWE. They don't give up on someone when they don't succeed the first time (usually). Edge has the look. Sometimes, that is all you need. Edge has been an employee for quite sometime now, and I feel that he has worked his way up the ladder. Brood, Edge & Christian, I.C. Division, and now he is trying to get higher. I see nothing wrong with that.

If you don't like Edge, that is fine. I just don't understand why you ALWAYS have to be so negative. Edge has been having good matches. Sure, they were all w/ Kurt, but that is why the WWE put him in the ring w/ him. They knew that Kurt would be the best guy to elevate him, and Kurt being a company man agreed.

Wrestling will always have it's problems. Wrestling will always have people with difference of opinions. I just fail to realize why you would always dwell on the same little things. It grows tiresome, and truthfully I think that I speak for everyone when I say that I'm sick of it.

Then reward both of them for the good matches. (I'm sure they forgot about that awful feud anyway) Don't just reward Edge and give Angle Bob Holly to work with.

Eh, I used to dislike Edge before his Angle feud, but now he's all right.  Not great, but all right.

As for his replacement, I'd love to see Val Venis (drop the Valbowski... I doubt most of the fans get it anyway), as his match with D'Von on Velocity last week showed me he's a pretty solid competitor.  Plus, he's a former IC champion, if that's worth anything any more.

In my dream world it'd be Christian, but I have no overlying problem with Bob Holly.  Sure, he's an oaf who's able to work a match but is sorely lacking personality, but so are many other guys who've gotten pushes before.  Besides, maybe if he gets a push, he can make a personality, like Kane was before he got injured.

Christian could have done it, had he not bitched about his character, WWE has no probelms forgetting past history.

What do you mean by this, Black Tiger? Was there some Christian/booking dispute that was never widely reported?

I thought main-eventers were supposed to put over up and coming talent, why is Angle exempt?  The fact that he is so talented is why the WWF keeps having him put people over.  He can make anyone look like a million dollars.  Besides, it could be worse; they could have Angle put over Test and Mark Henry next.

He's been doing that for almost four months. It's time to let Kurt go back where he belongs now.

After his DDP program, Christian mouthed off about his character to the wrong guys backstage and he's bee buried ever since.

But no one else can make the young up and comers look as good as Angle does.  I think Angle made the mistake of being too good at elevating people. Now he is being asked to do it more often.

The problem with using Angle to get people over is that he is the only one doing it so it just makes him look weak.  If the other ME were getting people over it would not look as bad, but when there is only one ME doing it it will make him stand out as weaker.  Besides the fact Angle was never in a position to give the big rub to begin with IMO.  While it is true that Angle main evented I don't think he was in the upper echelon.  You figure he had been in the ME consistently since Summerslam 2001- Vengeance then he got knocked back down again.  This was not really enough time to build Angle up as a ME who could lose yet retain his status.

And my solution to the Edge problem would be to turn UT face.  This pisses me off because it would delay any RVD title run (like it would happen anyway).  The crowds have shown they don't want to boo him so this would give

Faces:              Heels:

Austin              Guerrero

UT                    Benoit

HHH                 Angle

Hogan               Jericho

RVD                  NWO

This would buy them some time to elevate another face to replace the old guard that would constitute it.  And I don't know who that would be at this moment see what happens over the next couple of months.  Preferably the Booker T angle moves along and he becomes that face to replace Hogan or UT.  If you want to push a Venis or a Holly fine but don't just go Hey Venis is a ME now actually build him up for a couple of months by you know winning at least a couple of televised matches before doing it.  Hopefully when Edge comes back he can step back to where he was going before the injury (not that I am thrilled with him as a ME but it is worth a shot) and a face will have been built and we will have new fresh feuds.  In the mean time I would give the title to Jericho because I want it on a heel and I want fresh feuds I don't think Guerrero is over enough yet and Jericho gives me the aborted RVD feud, a feud with Hogan and Jericho tearing him a new one in every promo, a feud with UT, and a feud with Austin that actually has build up instead of being all about the NWO.

I think the more plausible scenario is the nWo becoming faces (since they are obviously already "cool heels"). I wouldn't want to see the UT go face, after 2 years of his crappy face character I've been getting into his heel persona and I think it's worked pretty well.

I thought about that but then that would leave a heel UT against either

Austin- done to death over the last few years

HHH- ugh the match noone wanted for Backlash so it must be gold for a KOR ME

Hogan- that worked like a charm

RVD- the WWF does not see to want to pull the trigger on that

NWO- I can't see that working

I figured that you could milk a couple of months out of the NWO trying to recruit RVD they make a big deal about him being elite making him an even bigger deal in the fans eyes. Run with Angle-Hogan should be great promos from Angle, possibly a decent match and put Angle over (the key), Austin-Guerrero is fine.  UT-Jericho gets the title on Jericho and possibly a solid match.  That leaves Benoit-HHH to keep themselves busy and Benoit gets over on HHH at some point.

BTW I pick Val too...and think hes got a pretty good chance of beating Jericho in the KOTR tourney.  Which is wrong on many levels...but at least Val isnt HHH.
