You're right, I need to grow the fuck up. While we're scrutinizing Arabs, I think that Indians look close enough like Arabs, so they all need to be watched. Black people too, because that Zaccharias Moussai looks black, so any bald, black goateed man should also be fitted for tracking bracelets. ALSO, Japanese attacked us once, they may do it again. Open up all the concentration camps again for the Japanese. And never forget the MAine, all hispanics need to be watched because of the actions of the Spanish navy in 1898. Hey, didn't the English army burn down D.C? during the war of 1812? And we're trusting this Blair guy? We're fucked...

Archie Bunker was right, you can only trust good ol' white boys, like David Koresh and Tim McVeigh, God knows we don't need any more of the Aye-Rabs or Coloreds committing acts of terrorism in this country.

"You're right, I need to grow the fuck up."

Absolutely, and everything you posted after that sentence is ample proof.

Because i disagree with you and your xenophobic point of view? Perhaps it is you who needs to grow up a little, maybe then you'd see that a few bad apples don't spoil the entire tree. Yes, I know that there are Arab males that hate us and everything we stand for. But not all of them do. And to look at everyone with a dark complexion  1) is not fair to anyone of Middle Eastern descent, and 2) will only drive you crazy. People seem to forget that before 9/11 the biggest attack on American soil WAS DONE BY ONE OF US!! Everyone was quick to point the fingers towards the Middle East, but they were wrong. It was the guy next door, a veteran, an Aryan if you wanna go that far. But I guess we'll give him a mulligan. By the way, I find irony in telling me to grow up because you're the one who had to stoop to a personal attack, are you unable to disagree with someone without insulting someone?

"Because i disagree with you and your xenophobic point of view?"

No, because you decided to run the Olympic mile with what I said.

"And to look at everyone with a dark complexion  1) is not fair to anyone of Middle Eastern descent, and 2) will only drive you crazy."

All of the terrorists who have attacked us recently fit a certain profile.  "Recently," btw, goes all the way back to the original WTC bombing in 1993.  That profile happens to be Arab males between the ages of 18 and 45.  Therefore, if we're looking for terrorists and increasing security at airports to keep terrorists off our planes, shouldn't we look a little closer at someone who fits that profile?  I've yet to see how this is a difficult point.

"People seem to forget that before 9/11 the biggest attack on American soil WAS DONE BY ONE OF US!!"

There was also the first WTC bombing a couple years before that, and the Embassy bombings (which are considered to be on American soil) a couple years after.  Those weren't carried out by militant white redneck gun nuts.

"I find irony in telling me to grow up because you're the one who had to stoop to a personal attack..."

Actually, "grow the fuck up" was directed in general at people who seem more concerned with offending a handful of Arabs than saving thousands of American lives.  But since you claimed it for your own and the shoe fit, you can keep it.

"are you unable to disagree with someone without insulting someone?"

That depends.  Are you able to disagree with someone without warping and twisting everything they say, and applying it to a bunch of completely farcical examples?  The Spanish Navy indeed.

Sorry Tom, i thought that was aimed at me, sorry for being defensive. I still disagree with you, however, don't use recent events as an excuse for being stereotypical and/or rascist.

"I still disagree with you, however, don't use recent events as an excuse for being stereotypical and/or rascist."

You're presuming racial profiling always leads to racism and unwanted stereotyping.  While there are bad examples of racial profiling out there, the practice itself is not intrinsically racist.

When a serial killer is being sought, who gets profiled?  White males.

When a rapist is being sought, who gets profiled?  White males.

In certain neighborhoods of many cities, white males are profiled as likely drug buyers.

As a white male, do I have a problem with any of these?  Absolutely not.  I got pulled over in Baltimore for being a suburban White in the wrong neighborhood.  After a couple minutes (and getting some better directions from the police), I was back on my way.  I wasn't there to buy drugs, which was obvious to the police soon enough.

The thing is, terrorists who pose a significant security threat to the US happen to fit a profile.  In this case, it's a racial one.  But if the terrorist profile was people who wore top hats, wife-beater T-shirts, and clown shoes (presuming a mix of races), would extra scrutiny on those folks be deemed offensive to tacky dressers?

Profiling is a very necessary part of modern law enforcement.  Without it, the job would be a lot more difficult, and in some cases, almost impossible.  If people are in too much of a hurry to spend an extra couple minutes at the security desk, maybe they should fly the Concorde.

Point 1) I made a decision when the video made news that I wasn't going to watch it. I can't decide whether it's out of squeamishness or out of disgust with the fact that we can watch this man being murdered in the comfort of our own hime.

Point 2) The posts were not deleted, but lost in the Great Forum Purge of 2002. Click Add Reply and look for posts where the username has been replaced with random letters and numbers - they will be there.
