Questions...

Just finished up watching my best of early Lyger (The Wonderland Lyger Series, parts 1 - 4, available from http://homepages.iol.ie/~snackbox/paltapes ) and I have a few questions for you knowledgable types...

1. Regarding 7/13/89 (Jyushin Thunder Lyger vs. Naoki Sano)... the finish to this match was some form of draw, but was it a time limit draw, or by referee stoppage (due to both guys being pretty damn fucked)?

2. Regarding 1/31/90 (Naoki Sano vs. Jyushin Thunder Lyger)... what was the deal with the post-match tantrum and throwing down of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight title by Lyger? I mean, it obviously had something to do with Naoki ripping his mask to shreds, but why did he throw down the belt after winning the match? And what was the outcome of this?

3. Regaring two of Lyger's opponents... The first Black Tiger (apparently really called Marc Rocco), and Cheetah Kid (apparently really called Rocco Rock)... same person or different people?

4. Regarding match dates and opponents... on my list for this tape I have it down as Lyger faces Akira Nogami on two occasions; once on 7/28/89, and then again on 1/18/90... I know the first of those two matches is against Akira Nogami, but the second of the two features a bloke who looks nothing like Akira Nogami... who is this person?

I think that's all of them for now, any help is, as always, appreciated.

Lyger and Sano had two draws in their feud. The first one was when Lyger was still the champion, neither was able to get to their feet by the ten count. The other was Sano's 2nd deffense against Lyger. It was a 60 minute draw.

Black Tiger was Mark Rocco, Cheatah Kid was Ted Petty (AKA Rocco Rock) they are not the same person.

It might be Akira Nogami in both matches, in those days he tended to work matches with and without his facepaint.

Thanks for the help :)

"It might be Akira Nogami in both matches, in those days he tended to work matches with and without his facepaint."

Nah, there was no face paint involved. Just someone short-haired and thin announced as Nogami in 1989, and someone long-haired and fat in 1990. Just to clarify, the 1990 match is JIPed, so I can't hear the announcer call the wrestlers name, which is how I'm sure the 1989 guy is Nogami.

Can anyone help with question two? That's the one I'm most interested in...

Please? Does anyone have an answer for question two? I'd be surprised if Stuart or someone else doesn't have at least some information on this event, it seemed pretty major on the tape...

You're making more of it than is there.  The match was a title tournament final, and he went on to hold it 10 more times, so it's not as though he refused to be champion.  He'd just beaten the guy who'd owned him for 6 months, and that was his challenge to all the others.  He was the man now, and throwing down the belt was his way of throwing down the gauntlet to anyone who wanted a shot.

Oh ok, just seemed like a big character development thing, especially with the smacking about of the ring boys... ill let it lie then :)
