Guest Report post Posted June 6, 2002 The camera opens on Ben Hardy waiting in a back hallway. He paces nervously as he awaits the man he is scheduled to interview. Hardy turns right and sees something of interest walking down the hallway. Hardy clears his throat. “And here he is now, please let me introduce a newcomer to the SJL, Thor!” As Hardy speaks, the camera pans back to allow the massive frame of Thor to stride into view wearing his red cape and carrying his hammer. He stands arms folded, his enormous arms squeezed together. Thor towers over Hardy and Hardy is visibly nervous by the size of his new company. In a shaky voice “Umm, Thor, you scored an impressive victory over the high-flying Impact on Metal. The fans want to know a little more about yourself and your strategy in the three way match against Impact and Fugue. Thor stands solid. He speaks, his loud booming voice startling Hardy. “Aye mortal, ‘tis the God of Thunder that doth stand before thee. Tis I who cause the heavens to shake when doth occurs a storm. I am the son of Odin the All-father, and prince of immortal Asgard. I have grown weary of my shimmering thrown at Asgard afar and have longed for a challenge. Methinks the arena where the titans collide, a mighty place where warriors doth do battle with little more than their mortal flesh to protect them. Tis this place that hath drawn my interest. For ages hath I watched these mortals compete in feats of strength, not only of the body, but of thy mind as well. This, the field of Professional Wrestling should suit my needs nicely. For my Asgardian flesh is far beyond the strength of any mortal, I will doth completely resort to human form, so as to not have a ridiculous advantage over mine opponent. Nor shall I use the enchantments granted by my magikal hammer Mjolnir. Twill be mine strength alone to defend my honor and ascend me quickly through the ranks of the SJL.” Hardy asks “How do you think you will fair in your match for Crimson?” Thor strokes his full red beard thoughtfully. “Mine opponents for this match on Crimson doth be my opponent from mine debut match against the quick moving Impact, and the musical Fugue. The Thunder God already knows where he stands with Impact, and I have seen the opening match with Fugue. These two are great warriors and ‘tis possible that I might have difficulty out maneuvering their incredible agility. But I foresee that I shall emerge victorious and earn mine place amongst the respected in the SJL. Thus says the God of Thunder Thor!” Thor walks off. “Ok, I think we’ve heard what we wanted to hear from Thor.” says Hardy “I think we can safely say that this match will be a good one.” Hardy mumbles under his breath “That’s the first interview in a while where I didn’t get made fun of or have something mean done to me.” The camera fades out. Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted June 7, 2002 I am reminded vaguely of the Berserker. HUSS! In any case, nice writing there. I do hope you take the "serious about being a thunder god" thing towards a comedic evolution, because I don't think it has much life otherwise. Good first match, though, and nice first promo. Guest Report post Posted June 7, 2002 I dont plan on being amusing anytime soon. The opening promo is just to get my character set up to the regulars. Other than that, people who just visit the site would casually observe that my character is just a big guy that speaks in Old English. If they want to observe further they will find that Thor is indeed the Norse god of thunder. A comedic element would degrade my character.
Guest Insane Clown Dan Report post Posted June 7, 2002 ...no it would not... Trust me. having SOME kind of comedic element in a big guy such as Thor does wonders. even if he thinks he's serious, but the fans take him as funny. Like if Thor said "You will inhale my giant balls of thunder and die from thine holy flare!" and the dirty-minded fans would think you're talking about genitalia, not actual balls of thunder. Shit like that.
Guest Report post Posted June 7, 2002 Yeah "shit like that" takes my character in a completely different direction than what I wanted. Thor isn't funny, he's a friggin god. Once you get past the ridiculous idea that he is a living god, he is just a big guy that talks like a Shakespear play. Comedy + Thor = SHIT
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted June 7, 2002 Shakespeare? I don't see no stinkin' iambic pentameter, boy! Nor does his speech that closes the promo end in a rhyming couplet! BWA HA HA! YOUR BRAIN IS MINE, THOR! ::eating of brain commences:: And yes, I *am* one of the guys in charge here. Ee hee hee...
Guest Report post Posted June 7, 2002 By a Shakespeare play, I was reffering to the type of language reffered to as Old English. As I figured that not everyone would understand what Old English was, less they liken it to something. Even those who haven't read the works of one of our greatest literary icons, would recognize the connotation between the funny sounding words in Shakespeare and the term Old English. BTW Don't disregard my character until it has had time to develop.
Guest Suicide King Report post Posted June 7, 2002 Not bad, Taft. Not bad. Anyone else want to see Thor and Thoth get it on for the rights to be the number one lisping deity of all time?

I was just joking you because I'm an English major and occasional Shakespeare performer, and when someone mentions the Bard, I'm all over like Rover. We do a lot of joking on these boards. Embrace it, and it's all good.
Guest Report post Posted June 7, 2002 Ok Edwin, I just took it the wrong way. BTW When I'm not speaking in Old English, call me Taft, its a little less formal that way. That goes for you all too *points at computer screen*. Just remember, just because I disable smileys, doesn't mean I'm not a happy camper.

Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted June 8, 2002 An unbelievable character like Thor is usually portrayed, and in fact usually by the fans wanted to be potryayed, as a humorous character or at least one with a tongue in cheek sense of humor, as mentioned above. It might be hard to fathom, but professional wrestling is much more "realistic" than it once was in its characters and storylines and while someone like Thor might have been standard ten to fifteen years ago, he seems a little out of place today. That is not to say that there are not precedents for characters like him. Both the Ultimate Warrior and Hercules, at least early on in their careers, were seen to be gods, or have some sort relation or legion to the gods, and were portrayed as being serious dramatic personas. Although, over time they lapsed into being parodies of themselves due to the changing times and character stagnation. I think what most people are saying here is that they want to see some sort of three-dimensional personality out of Thor with human traits and emotions. While humor might be the easiest route to go with him, it is not the only one. I felt that my character of Frost was very one-dimensional up until a few weeks ago when his obsessions for the European title and Sydney Sky came to light. They both show him to be a more human character and not just some brutish, mechanical ass kicker. You say you have a clear course of where you want to go, and no one should know what to do with your character more than you, so I wish you luck in developing him into a vital member of the SJL.
