Guest Karnage Report post Posted June 6, 2002 June 06, 2002 - Today, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety revealed the full, and official details on the upcoming DVD of Steven Spielberg's E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. As expected, the disc will arrive on October 22 and in multiple versions, but will only be available for 10 weeks before being placed on moratorium. That means, if you plan to own E.T. on DVD, you'd better preorder a copy or get down to the video store on Oct. 22nd to insure your copy. "E.T. Limited Collector's Edition DVD" will be $22.95 and include both the 20th Anniversary edition along with an exclusive interview with Spielberg as well as footage of John Williams conducting the score at the E.T. 20 premiere, and more than 10 hours of extras. However if you want the original edition you'll need to fork out about $70 for the "E.T. Ultimate Collector's Gift Set", which includes the soundtrack, script, film cel, and more. First Universal makes 20 versions of American Pie, now this?!

Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted June 7, 2002 Given the film's status as an "American classic", from a commercial standpoint that's really stupid, because it means they can sell le... never mind, that's actually really smart, because they can keep re-releasing "special limited editions" every 5-10 years, like Disney movies. Other than that, I can't think of any possible reason this would be so other than to please me (I've always disliked the movie... I used to be afraid of it as a child and it still makes me a little edgy), in which case I applaud the DVD producers (for once).
