Need WAR Commercial Tape Recommendations

Recommended Posts

Guest Brian

I’m heading into shorter reports, so that I can do this in less time. Not as much play-by-play. Angle development again in this show, RAW is loaded with good matches and enough time. Hopefully, it’s still as enjoyable and should be an easier read. If you’re not following me, I’ll give you the Survivor Series card as of before this show:

WWF Title: The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin (Winning company gets WWFE)

WCW Title: Chris Jericho vs. The Undertaker

If you’re following the show, you can see a card coming together. Next week begins the Cruiserweight G-1 Tournament, and because I haven’t transcribed the job my announcers and X-Pac have been doing (in theory), here’s the rules:

- Two brackets of six cruiserweight wrestlers (Bracket A: Rey Mysterio, Matt Hardy, Juventud Guerrera, Spike Dudley, Hurricane Helms, and Essa Rios) (Bracket B: Tajiri, Mystery Alliance Member, Sho Funaki, Chavo Guerrera, TAKA Michinoku, and Billy Kidman).

- Round Robin Tournament based on points (two for win, one for draw, zero for loss).

- Action will take place on house shows and TV. All matches will be released on two tapes.

- The winner of Bracket A faces the person in second place of Bracket B, likewise for the other two. Winners of both matches will meet in a winner take all match to designate the winner of the tournament and the number one contender to X-Pac dual titles. The winner will also face X-Pac at the Royal Rumble PPV.

Now that I’ve updated everyone, onto the show:

WWF SmackDown – 11/8/01

Austin cuts a promo on RVD, basically saying that RVD needs to go back to basics after costing him the match on Monday, and Austin recommends that RVD leave an open challenge tonight for the hardcore title. As for the Rock, Austin has a special opponent for him. He thinks that there’s one man in the locker room who has a lot to prove tonight, a man who’s come back after leaving and has declared himself a free agent. He thinks Shamrock…what…Ken Shamrock…what…the world’s most dangerous man, to prove just how good he is tonight against the Rock. Shamrock’s music hits, and he tells Austin that he doesn’t have to prove anything. Especially to the Rock, a man he defeated for the King of the Ring title in 1998. But Shamrock is in the mood for an ass kicking, and he can show everyone who forgets just what he’s about today. The camera focuses on Austin with a grin on his face.

Backstage in the commissioner’s office, Kane, Angle, and the APA are all in the back complaining about Booker T, Shamrock, and Test respectively. Foley says he’ll solve all their problem by booking the seven of them, and an alliance member of their choosing, in a Survivor Series’ match, and Regal looks on stunned and disgusted.

We return backstage to see Storm run down Helms on how the Hurricane is not working for him and how people will never see him as a threat if this continues. Storm says the match on RAW was the last straw. Storm says that after talking with Justin Credible, he’s decided to leave the ship before it sinks anymore. He leaves Helms with one word of advice before going: “Vertibreaker.”

Intercontinental Championship (Alliance banned from ringside)

Edge vs. Tazz

Tazz had asked earlier in the night that the Alliance be banned from ringside, with Christian reacting unhappily. Trade off offense early, lots of counters until Tazz no sells a clothesline. Tazz starts punding away and works the neck. Different tazplex variations. Edge makes a comeback, which gets stopped by Tazz. He pounds away and goes for a dragon tazplez, but edge reverses and takes control. Double knockout, and Spike Dudley goes down to the ring. Tazz locks the Tazmission, sees Spike and starts to show off, but doesn’t pay enough attention to Edge, and Edge breaks the hold and misses a clothesline, but Edge gets caught in a waistlock, flips over on the German suplex, and catches Tazz with the downward spiral for the win at 6:12. Christian rushes the ring but Edge fights him off, and as Tazz gets up and Spike hits the Dudley Dog on him; and he and Edge return to the back.

Backstage, Austin and RVD are talking in the back. Austin says eventually, RVD will get better and not lose matches like that, more like Stone Cold; but RVD’s just fine being “R-V-D”. Austin says that, “You’re never going to be a great superstar like that, and you should be helping out your fellow Alliance members in their Survivor Series match. Prove that RVD can win matches.” RVD accepts.

Jeff and X-Pac meet in the ring with a grapple. Usual matwork by X-Pac, as he leads into an armdrag. He tags in Albert, and Albert takes control. Albert works over Jeff, and Jeff tries to make the comeback with a sunset flip, but Albert goes wild and tags in X-Pac. Test picks Angle up and throws him into the corner, but Angle hits Test with and elbow as he’s heading in. Angle comes charging with a clothesline, but Test ducks and hits a neckbreaker for two. Test back up with Angle and whips him into the ropes. Angle ducks the big boot and goes for the Angle slam, but Test drops and reverses that into a sidewalk slam for a near fall. Test whips Angle again, who ducks a clothesline, and catches the big boot into the ankle lock for the tap at 8:45. Booker T rushes the ring to get some shots on Angle, but Undertaker and Kane make the save.

On the SmackDown screen shows Jericho, who comes on as Undertaker is in the ring. Jericho: “Undertaker, I’m sorry you got in my way on Monday. But you’re also getting in my way at Survivor Series. Y2J deserves better than you. Why do I have to be the one with everything to lose? What about you, what have you put on the line? Nothing. A dozen years of destruction, that’s what I want. I want to end your career at Survivor Series! I want to never…eeeeeever, see your face on my television again after that day.”
