Anyone watching the MTV awards?

Just wondering if it's any good this year

 

I caught bits and pieces of it...missed the White Stripes song (mainly what I wanted to see)...giving Witherspoon the award for comedic performance is a farce, just craming another MTV movie down viewers throats.

 

So what else happened

Sadly, the almighty White Stripes were undone by the stupid medley crap a lot of bands do at award shows.  They segued from "Fell In Love With A Girl" to the opening notes of "I Think I Smell A Rat" to the first verse of "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" and back to the first song all within about three and a half minutes.  I understand the idea behind it--"Fell In Love With A Girl" is the big hit single and they have to play it, but it's only about 1:50--but I'd rather have seen them play two full songs than go between verses of different songs at random.  Oh, well.  Kelly Osbourne's deal was pretty good, though.

Kelly Osbourne singing was really not that bad.

several winners no showed, and accepted the award via video.....If they don't show up to receive then why give them tv time?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't him.  He wouldn't have had enough time to change and all.  But between this and the "Without Me" video, I'm delighted to see that the gayest costume in all of superhero-dom has made its triumphant return to the spotlight.

He was in his "Rap boy" character, a spoof on Robin from Batman.  He debuted it in his Without Me video.  

 

Geez, can you tell that he's fucking Brittany Murphy or is it just me?  

 

Jack Black had some great chemistry with SMG.

 

Will Ferrell is great.

 

The worst thing on the show, other than Paul Walker winning anything, was Martin Lawrence's shameless promotion without even throwing in one joke in his bit.

I turned it on, saw Angelina Jolie was nominated for best actress for Tomb Raider, and immedietly turned it off.  I have NO respect for a show which is such an obvious media whore shill sellout.

Well, dude...it's MTV.  I'll watch any show with the White Stripes, hot chicks, and Jack Black.  That's all there is to it.  Personally, I don't give a fuck who they nominate for what.  It's going to be stupid and wrong and geared towards 13 year old girls whether I like it or not.

Eh i usually try watching. However i refused to when Marlon and Shawn Wayans hosted two straight year because they are terribly unfunny.

 

You can't take this show serious or there is no way you will be able to enjoy it. If you take the show with a grain of salt it can be enjoyable. Hell you can make fun of the entire show and it can still be enjoyable...in fact it's what i always do.  

 

But MTV deserves some credit tonight. They gave an award to Christopher Nolan director of Memento and Insomnia which are two very unmtv type of movies.

I'm the biggest Jack Black mark I know, but I thought that he wasn't that funny tonight. Granted, the skits were funny...the Spiderman skit and the Lord of the Rings skits were hilarious, but I felt that he could have done so much better.

You've obviously never seen the World Music Awards, where if you perform, they'll make up a category and give you an award...  unless you're O-Town (ha!).

After watching the awards last night all I know is that I am very jealous of Adam Sandler, he got to poke around with Winona Ryder.  Damn she's hotter now that she added some color to her hair.

I thought all of the skits were hilarious. I particularly enjoyed the Panic Room spoof because I was laughing at the cornrows the whole time because I thought I was the only person in the world that was terribly annoyed by the guy's cornrows in the real Panic Room. The Spider-Man skit was funny as hell and so was the Lord Of the Rings spoof. I was hoping for a Star Wars spoof but one never really came. I wasn't really concerned with the awards because they mean jackshit to me.

I would have been heated if Tomb Raider won ANYTHING.  That was the 3rd worst movie I've ever seen in theaters.  

 

I still can't believe Paul Walker got an award...ugh.

I managed to watch the show, and the skits were the best part of the whole show.  I laughed really hard during the Panic Room and Lord of the Rings skit.  They should bring Jack Black back for next year. Or better yet, give him his own variety show where he makes fun of everything and has Tenacious D perform, that would be comedy.

 

My only real problem was Paul "I'm a worst actor then Keanu" Walker winning anything.  This guy really sucks.  He basically shows no emotion in his so-called acting.  Also, is it me, or does he seem like he can't wait to say "Dude" after everyting he says, and has to contain himself.  I guess this is what happens when little girls, whom I am thinking, did most of the voting.  

 

I do like this show better then the Music Awards show, because at least this show has usually funnier hosts.

I have to say that this for MTV...its not like they select the awards.  The people vote for them, so they aren't really in that much control.  If a bunch of people thought that Reese Witherspoon was best comedic actress...then they had to give the award to her.  

 

I'm pretty sure that they are still embarassed about having to give Cisco(sp?) the Best Hip-hop award...

Since Buffy the Vampire Slayer will have more comedy next season, maybe Jack Black could appear.  I would mark out for that.
