Concerts You're ashamed to have attended

Recommended Posts

Guest Kinetic

I've seen the following bands live:

Silverchair

Stone Temple Pilots

Bush

Collective Soul

Veruca Salt

Smash Mouth

Blink 182

Everclear

Huey Lewis and The News

REO Speedwagon (twice)

There are stories behind all of these, of course.  I'll tell them later.  The shame had become too much to bear, however, and I had to tell someone.

I went to Alanis Morrisette to see Garbage and stayed..ugh

It was worth it to see Garbage another time though.

**in love with the old shirley manson**

their music is top notch too of course. Alanis was flailing like an idiot onstage, and she couldnt even play the one song i remotely liked (caled Heart of the house or Heart of the home).

ashamed for veruca salt kinetic?. i hated them the one time i saw them with PJ Harvey and Live, but wish i saw them on tour for the second album. much much better.

we need to hear the reason behind the double shot of REO Speedwagon!!

Steel Pole Bathtub opening for Faith No More was pretty wretched.

I took a girl to that Meredith person who sings the "im a Bitch" song

i think the last and only other one on my list was a free Green Day show that turned into a pseudo-riot. I left early and just didnt want to be associated with any douchbags who all made claims of "i caused the riot" or "I was onstage". yeah people all 50,000 of you.

I'm no Veruca Salt fan, but I wouldn't be ashamed to say that I saw them live. I am ashamed to say that I saw Debbie Gibson perform back in the day.

Anger Management Tour (Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, Eminem...why did i go?)

Ozzfest 01 (other than some kick ass shows by Disturbed, Sabbath and Hatebreed, BLS, the rest sucked)

I think I got you all beat. I saw famed Christian rockers DC Talk TWICE back in the day...one during their "rap" "Free At Last"  days, and another during their alt-rock "Jesus Freak" era. I think I'm more ashamed of the "Free at Last" show, though, since back then I thought that was what real rap was like.

Actually, I've seen many a cheesy Christian concert..stuff like Whiteheart, Petra, Audio Adrenaline, Hoi Polloi....wow.

As far as REO Speedwagon is concerned:  They have this Fourth of July concert in San Antonio called "Freedom Fest" or something along those lines.  I must have been about eight the first time I saw them, so I didn't know what to think.  I had the good sense to realize that they sucked, though.  The second time, Santana was supposed to play but got busted for possession at the airport.  Thus, REO Speedwagon was flown in to replace him.  Neither one of these was as excruciating as the Huey Lewis show, though, which went on forever.  I think that bastard did three encores.  Unbelievable.

I also saw Joe Walsh when I was 10.  I dislike The Eagles and I hate his solo stuff, so this is not my proudest moment.

I bet they didnt even have any prior commitments to cancel either :)

have you been able to see Santana yet to make up for it?

Nope.  I'm not that fond of Santana, actually.  This was just one of those deals that my parents were dragging me along to.  They were pretty enthused that REO Speedwagon was going to play, for whatever reason.  My parents are dolts.

Veruca Salt sucks.  Seriously.

I've seen some poor support bands, British indie no hopers like Shed Seven (opening for Aerosmith!?) and Dubstar. The last gig i went to i'd not heard either band (Elbow & Mull Historical Society) but they were both good. I guess you're more likely to be ashamed of bands you saw when you were too young to know better.

I went to ozzfest last year and god it sucked. This year's hopefully will not suck.

I saw incubus and hoobastank a few weeks ago and it sucked. Incubus's shows suck now because they are so mainstream and girls were screaming so loud and Boyd that you seriously couldnt hear the music.

I've been to a few underground punk concerts....being the prep that I am, that was an experience. I went with this girl that I liked, but as soon as we got there, I wanted to leave. Everyone did this strange kicking dance and ran around in a big circle flailing their limbs aimlessly. I believe the band we saw was The Wiggums, but I'm not sure. They did a heavy metal song at the end, but it still sucked. Never again....

But I don't know why you would be ashamed to say you saw them live. I saw Debbie fucking Gibson, man, so don't give me Veruca Salt and expect it to belong in the same category. REO Speedwagon, yes; Veruca Salt, no.

I suddenly wish I hadn't passed on the opportunity to see Tiffany all those years ago.

Skunk Fest 1999. Just awful, awful...

It's an annual collection of local music in my town, and each year the bands chosen suck the wang.

Hmm...who else...

I went to a pop/punk show at the local community center because my friend James' band was playing. I left 2 hours before the show ended.

Worst Show I'd ever attended had to be a Social Distortion concert. The people were so lame with their mohawks and shit...I just laughed at those poor "lost" souls.

Best Shocker of a goo concert that I thought would suck...

Creed. Seriously. I only went for the 3DD opener and the fans were hot...Girls just jamming nude and alot of weed being passed around...tons of pyro...in the rain for the last half hour with mudsliding down the hill. Pure fun.

I could go on forever about the terrible local bands I've seen.  I think there's an unwritten rule about every futureless smalltown band having a shitty emo vocalist.  When I've had the opportunity, I've told these cunts that it would bother me a lot less if they were trying and just weren't good singers.  But to subject a group of people to their half-assed nasal whine...that just shows no regard for human life.  And with all of the Stephen Malkmus-lookalikes striking cool poses in the crowd rather than dancing or moving at all...it just irks me, you know.

Hey, at least your local bands bother ripping off decent acts. Every band in my town either wants to be Limp Bizkit or Blink-182.

I wouldn't even want to guess who their influences are. But when I say "emo," I mean more along the lines of Dashboard Confessional than Sunny Day Real Estate.  I wouldn't want to give the impression that these bands have any redeeming characteristics.

Outside of Kinetic and his one-two punch REO Speedwagon and Huey Lewis and the News, no one here has come close to matching my Debbie Gibson concert. It's pretty clear that I'm in the lead.

since I work at an ampitheatre, I get subjected to all manner of crap. Let me think back to last summer.

backstreet boys (twice)

dave matthews (twice)

some country singer who thinks his tractor is sexy

Barenaked Ladies/Vertical Horizon

this year will be interesting too

Melissa Etheridge/Meredith Brooks

Usher, Nas, Mr. Cheeks

Weezer/Dashboard Confessional

Goo Goo Dolls/3rd Eye Blind

Creed/Jerry cantrell

thank god good tours like Santana, The Allman Brothers, Ozzfest and other stuff are coming around, otherwise, I'd probbaly go insane. At least there's no boy band shows this year.

That guy wins. You can't compete with that. I can't, nobody can... unless maybe you saw them three/i] times.

Creed/Jerry cantrell

I thought Jerry Cantrell was damn good live myself...

I'm sure Cantrel's not all that bad live...its just that I'm gonna be bracing myself for Creed, so I wont be able to enjoy his set. I wonder of he'll do some AIC in tribute to Layne, during his set...I cant remember if he does much AIC during his solo sets.

Now that I think about it, that is worse than Debbie Gibson. Not by much, but still.

Youre really lucky because weezer, Dashboard confessionals, and the strokes are all touring and i would love to see them.  I find it odd that one of the members of Alice in Chains is touring with Creed and 12 stones.
