Comments which don't warrant a thread

If the non-US audience really is 40% of the number of buys, then, domestically, JD did 138,600 and Vengeance did 187,800 approximately, and that means the ECW PPV, which was a free special in the UK, outdrew both the WWE PPV's domestically, and by a huge margin.

that would be assuming that all non-US buys come from the UK, which, if you'll take a look at the vast number of canadians around these parts, seems like a terrible assumption. your point, however, is still very valid regarding JD and GAB.

Chris Nowinski's written a book on sports concussions.

Promotional material for the book reads:

"In 2003, WWE wrestler Christopher Nowinski took a kick to the head that knocked him out of professional wrestling and sent him on a journey that could change the way contact sports are played.

Nowinski, a former Harvard football player, suddenly found himself suffering from a constellation of debilitating symptoms that included cognitive problems, severe headaches, and depression. Doctors eventually diagnosed him with post-concussion syndrome, but they couldn't tell him why that specific kick to the head created this problem, nor if he would ever get healthy enough to return to his job. His personal quest to understand his condition led him to discover that he had suffered not one concussion, but many over the course of an amateur career in football and his professional career in wrestling, and it was the cumulative effect of these injuries that had ended his career. He also learned that the worst was not necessarily behind him, as he uncovered research linking multiple concussions with serious long-term neurological disorders like Alzheimer's disease, memory impairment, and depression.

Most disturbing, however, was not what the research said was happening to Chris, but to the young athletes who play contact sports. He discovered that concussions happen with frightening regularity, but over 9 out of 10 go undiagnosed. The lack of awareness, diagnosis, and treatment of these injuries causes children to die every year on athletic fields and many others to acquire permanent brain damage, some immediate, and some that won’t reveal themselves for decades. Worst of all, he found that while the most popular and violent of American sports, football, is literally overwhelmed by a concussion crisis, parents, coaches, and players on all levels remain without the information and means to protect themselves, and NFL officials actively seek to undermine and discredit the legitimate and valuable research that could make the difference between life and death for so many young athletes.

Head Games takes readers through Nowinski's journey to diagnosis, then deeper into an understanding of this far-reaching national crisis. The book includes interviews with NFL Hall of Famer Harry Carson, Merril Hoge, Doug Flutie, Pete Cronan, Leigh Steinberg, Sylvia Mackey, dozens of college and youth football players, and top doctors in the field of sports concussion."

There was reportedly a "widespread rumor" within the wrestling industry last week that current WWE Vice President of Talent Relations John "Johnny Ace" Laurinaitis was going to be fired. One rumor that blew up within WWE was that Barry Windham was going to be hired to replace Laurinaitis. Although strong sources within WWE are indicating now that those rumors were never true, those same sources have stated that the confidence Vince and Stephanie McMahon once had in Laurinaitis has been noticably shaken. Many WWE wrestlers, especially the veterans, do not respect Laurinaitis at all and actually mock him frequently behind his back. The main criticism on Laurinaitis within WWE was that he doesn't have a natural eye for talent at all. As of now, there doesn't appear to be any candidates currently on WWE's staff being considered as front-runners to replace Laurinaitis if he were to be removed from his current position. While the rumor of Windam taking over the position may have been untrue, WWE officials have expressed interest in bringing him in as an agent. The feeling internally right now in WWE is that if a decision was made to remove Laurinaitis, Jim Ross would likely be asked to step in and serve as V.P. of Talent Relations for now (a title he held before Laurinaitis) and help train a replacement. It should be noted that Shane McMahon and Triple H are being considered as the "top two" heirs to the position, although both are still considered to be a few years away from being taken seriously for taking the role.

According to new reports, the term "agents" within World Wrestling Entertainment will now be replaced with the term "producers". The role of WWE agents have always been to be the "middle man" between the creative team and the wrestlers, so the "producers" term will further describe the additional work agents did in planning matches and finishes with wrestlers and then critiquing after their respective match.

For those wondering, the "press conference" in-ring promo with WWE Intercontinental Champion, Johnny Nitro and Melina this past Monday night on Raw ran longer due in part to Vince McMahon not being as involved with the show as usual as he was still preparing for his later segments on the program.

Oh god, they're calling agents "producers." 2006 will be remembered as one of those philosophical shift years, like 1997, as the genesis of the kind of SPORTS BY GOD ENTERTAINMENT that we're going to get for the next decade. Imagine every storyline on the show being conducted like the DX/McMahons crap is now, where the ring might as well not exist. Maybe I'll become an indies nerd.

Could someone please tell me how in the world the Wrestlemania DVDs always do so goddamn well, like, better than they really should?

To summarize what they said in that last part (Nitro running so long) is that without Vince's segments, the cookie-cutter formula for RAW they've been using since the DX reformation left a few minutes unused, and (sadly enough) they probably didn't even notice until the Nitro segment that "Hey, we've got like 5 minutes of unused time....shit!"

I think it's a case of it being the big PPV of the year and the "important" event to have in your collection, if you own wrestling videos. For example, WrestleMania XV isn't very good, but I have the DVD sitting on my shefl waiting to be watched every March.

Van Dam and Sabu plead guilty

By Ed Williams III

September 1, 2006

Robert Szatowski and Terry Brunk, better known to ECW fans as Rob Van Dam and Sabu, respectively, pleaded guilty to drug charges Thursday at Ironton Municipal Court in Ohio.

Sabu pleaded to third-degree possession of drugs, and the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dropped due to a plea bargain. Sabu was sentenced to 10 days in jail by Judge Clark Collins, but the time was suspended, and he will have to pay a fine of $500 and court costs.

Van Dam was sentenced to pay a $140 fine and court costs after pleading guilty to driving 73 mph in a 55 mph zone and third degree possession of marijuana. Van Dam was also originally charged with possession of Vicodin, but the charge was dropped when he proved he had a valid prescription.

According to the Ironton Tribune, however, the court appearance was not without incident. The publication reports that when Van Dam and Sabu entered the courtroom, the two Extremists greeted the media with obscene hand gestures.

Neither Van Dam nor Sabu were able to be reached for comment.

Van Dam and Sabu were first stopped in Hanging Rock, Ohio by Ohio State Highway Patrol at about 10:15 p.m. Van Dam was initially stopped for speeding, but when the troopers approached the vehicle, they smelled marijuana and performed a search. Troopers found Van Dam in possession of 18 grams of marijuana and five Vicodin, prescription pain pills. Sabu was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and also had nine pills that were not immediately identifiable.

Aero, you're aware that's fake...aren't you?

Question:

Does King Booker still owe Randy Orton a "favor" for subbing for Booker in the U.S. Title Best of 7 and helping him win the title? Did Orton ever collect?

Technically yes, Booker still owes him. And no, Orton never collected. Many speculated that Book would interfere at No Way Out in the Mysterio/Orton match to send Randy to Wrestlemania, but they never mentioned it really after the Royal Rumble, (except for Orton saying "you owe me" to him at the NWO press conference).

The WWE mobile alert sent out a message today that the meeting between Kurt Angle and WWE executives last Friday was "heated and confrontational" and labeled Angle as an "emotional wreck" when he left the building.

We should have more on this later.

Thanks to Keith Lipinski

Ok so this could be either one of two things.

1. Flipping people off

or 2. They did their poses.

Either way, I want a picture.

Nope, Cena's had better PPV main events than Edge.

Cena

v. HHH

v. HHH v. Edge

v. RVD

Edge

v. HHH v. Cena

That list doesn't even make any sense. First off, you're considering a Main Event match to solely be the last match on the card. A Main Event can be placed in the middle of the card as long as it's still treated like a huge attraction. All of Edge's PPV matches and all of Cena's PPV matches have been given that attention since WrestleMania so I'm changing your criteria. Furthermore, Edge has only been in one final match Main Event from WrestleMania to One Night Stand, so of course he's going to have a difficult time comparing to Cena. If you consider Edge a Main Eventer and Cena a Main Eventer, it would make a lot more sense to simply look at their matches separately, no matter where they placed on the card. And, just for argument's sake, I'm throwing in Vengeance as well.

Cena

vs. HHH at WrestleMania XXII

vs. HHH vs. Edge at Backlash

vs. Rob Van Dam at One Night Stand

vs. Sabu at Vengeance

Edge

vs. Foley at WrestleMania XXII

vs. HHH vs. Cena at Backlash

with Mick Foley vs. Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk at One Night Stand

vs. Rob Van Dam at Vengeance

Personally, I think Edge has had the better match at WrestleMania against Foley, One Night Stand in the tag match, AND Vengeance against RVD when compared to the respective matches Cena fought in. In fact, he has consistently proven himself as perhaps the best all-around Main Eventer in WWE in 2006. Besides Pay-Per-Views, just find me any Cena match from a 2006 episode of Raw that comes close to competing with the Edge/Flair TLC match from Raw back in January. He doesn't compare to Edge's efforts this year.

We're finally getting an indication about when Chris Benoit will return. WWE.com has posted that he will be on the Smackdown tour of the Phillippines, October 21st - 22nd. So that's the latest he will return. I suspect he will return before then.

No, he needs to get that one match meaningful match with Mysterio, Taker and fulfill his Danielson dream and retire.

He's better then WWE. He doesn't deserve to break his neck again for a dumb angle that he'll get put in.

However, I wouldn't put it past them to go back to the original plan of Benoit in ECW since he can replace his own replacement.

Benoit was boring in his last year or so. He needs to come back and have this great feud to show the real Benoit is back, not some stupid angle about Eddie Guerrero.

Agreed he doesn't need to be involved in the Eddie story, but if anything, I think Benoit finally fulfilled his character, doing things like headbutts and such to make an opponent stop resisting him in holds. I'd like to see him get one more run with the belt, but he doesn't need to hang around forever either
