Guest Report post Posted June 8, 2002 Live from Springfield... MA, it's Degeneration X: In Your House! Commenators: JR & The King --- This is of course after Survivor Series '97. With Shawn Michaels as WWF Champion, in DX, with no big face to feud with, the WWF tried something new... bring Ken Shamrock to the top. And while they're at it, why not bring the 50+ WWF Commissioner back for a match. --- WWF Light-Heavyweight Title Tournament Finals- Taka Michinoku vs. Brian Christopher Looking at the Tournament brackets, there was no doubt that these two would be in the Finals. The WWF pushed only these two in the division. Christoher starts off with arm bars and such, and goes for a German suplex, but Taka flips out of it and hits him outside with dropkicks. Taka flies over the top rope at Christopher in a great move! Taka is back on the turnbuckle, but Christopher crotches him, and sends him to the floor. Christopher flies at Taka, but Taka sends him into the guard rail, mouth first! Christopher is busted open at his mouth. Later, back in, Taka misses a missile dropkick, but Christopher misses a charge. Taka hits a DDT for two, and Christopher starts to head to the back after a hurricanrana. Jerry Lawler convinces Brian to go back, and Taka again keeps control. Christopher comes back by hitting the full nelson face buster. He nails a missile dropkick, followed by a Fameasser. Backbreaker gets two. Brian is just throwning Taka around. German suplex, and Christopher keeps stalling. Powerslam, and he heads up top for the Tennessee Jam. Misses, and Taka hits the Michinoku Driver, to become the first ever Light-Heavyweight Champion, at 11:59. About *3/4. --- Six-Man Tag Match- DOA vs. Los Buricuas Because when the WWF needs a PPV filler, the solution is always the next exciting chapter in the 1997 Gang Warz! The crowd is chanting, "Shave your back!" at one of the Buricuas. Savio was banned from ringside. I think it was Miguel Perez (I can't remember the Buricuas most of the time) who gets a "leg injury", which makes Savio run out to try and get in the match. Later on, Miguel, who's been nursing that "injury" outside, runs in, and does a flipping leg drop onto Chainz, to get the win at a wasted 7:56 of my time. DUD. --- Toughman Match- Marc Mero vs. Butterbean For those who don't know, Vince couldn't promote this as a "Boxing Match", because it was suspected that he might fix it. So, the result is a Toughman Match. This all came about because Mero thought that Butterbean was hitting on Sable or something. Early on, Mero stalls, standing in between the ropes. Boring, very boring, as many wrestling fans have no interest in boxing whatsoever. Here's the ending... Mero is fed up and hits Butterbean with a stool, getting the DQ. Although I shouldn't give this a rating, it's a DUD, simply because it's terribly boring to watch, and is zero interest for a wrestling fan. --- The Artist Formerly Known as Goldust and Luna come out and read Green Eggs & Ham. Lucky us. --- Michael Cole interviews the Legion of Doom about their upcoming match with the New Age Outlaws. The Outlaws "upset" LOD a few weeks ago to win the Tag Team Titles. --- WWF Tag Team Championship- New Age Outlaws © vs. Legion of Doom LOD come out first. When the Outlaws come out, LOD immediately go after them in the aisle, but the Outlaws run to the back claiming they need further exercising. After a few minutes of this stalling, the match begins. Animal dominates Road Dogg early on. Hawk comes in and hits both Outlaws off the apron. Animal's back in, and he powerbombs Road Dogg for two. Billy Gunn is tagged, and he low blows Hawk, and Road Dogg hits him with a cooler. Road Dogg gets some shots in on Hawk for a while, until LOD use some double-teaming in the corner. They set up for the Doomsday Device, as Billy Gunn distracts the ref. Henry Godwinn comes running in with a slop bucket and nails Animal. Hawk hits Henry with a clothesline from the top. Hawk steals the bucket and cleans house of both Henry and the Outlaws. The ref DQs LOD, at 10:27. The Outlaws escape with the titles. 1/2* Bad finish. Couldn't they just have the Outlaws cheat to win... that is, without the help from Henry Godwinn? --- Video package for Sgt. Slaughter-HHH Boot Camp Match. The ORIGINAL and GOOD DX were, as usual breaking all the rules, to the disproval of Commissioner Slaughter. HHH made some comments about Sarge's family and wife, so Sarge challenged HHH. --- HHH & Chyna cut a promo backstage. By the way, it's officially "HHH" now, not "Triple H", but "HHH". --- Boot Camp Match- HHH vs. Sgt. Slaughter Remember... when the WWF has a USA character, the easy way out for music is to give them Kurt Angle music... same goes for Sarge here. The match begins, and Slaughter throws HHH outside. They fight out there for a while. Back in, Slaughter chokes HHH with his belt, and nails a clothesline for two. Slaughter attempts the Cobra Clutch, but HHH blocks it, and they fight outside and into the crowd. Are Slaughter's pants falling down!? Back ringside, HHH gets the ringbell, by hitting the timekeeper of course, and then hits Slaughter. HHH wraps a chain around his fist, and nails Slaughter for two. Slaughter's back up, and decides to head up top (?). HHH easily slams him down to the mat, for two. Sleeper... sleeper... and finally, Slaughter reverses into the Cobra Clutch! Chyna runs in with a chair to break it, but Slaughter throws powder in her eyes. HHH starts to make a comeback, before getting trapped in the Cobra Clutch again. Chyna comes back and kicks Slaughter right in the nuts! HHH gets back up, and Pedigrees him on a chair, to score the win, at a very long 17:59. Who gave Sgt. Slaughter 18 minutes? Moreover, how did Slaughter have that long of a match? Wait... he didn't really... hense the reason of a *3/4 rating. --- Jeff Jarrett vs. Undertaker Jarrett made his return in late October, I believe, but every time he had a match, something would happen, like I remember this: Vader... the bell rang, when Goldust, his rival, ran out. Vader chased him to the back, giving Jeff the countout win. Finally, Commissioner Slaughter made this match for the PPV. This is Undertaker's first match since Badd Blood's Hell in a Cell with HBK. Undertaker dominates all through the beginning. He nails the rope walk. Jarrett comes back, working on Taker's knees. Undertaker easily makes a comeback, hitting a legdrop for two. The place goes dark, and out walks Kane & Paul Bearer. Oh great, another Kane run-in, I mean walk-in. Kane comes inside, and Jarrett encourages him to go after Taker. Kane, instead, chokeslams Jarrett, giving him the DQ win over Undertaker, at 2:53. Kane slaps Taker, and walks out. Jarrett gets back up and goes for the figure-four, but Undertaker chokeslams him and leaves. Jarrett's up again, and this time, he has the ref raise his arm. Wow, Jeff Jarrett is certainly over, isn't he? Call it a 1/2* --- Video package for Steve Austin vs. Rock... Intercontinental Title Match. Rocky Maivia has started to act cocky, and he started going by, "The Rock". Austin was IC Champ, and Rocky started to claim he was the best damn IC Champ, there ever was! Austin gave Stunners to every Nation member, and then Rock stole the IC belt. --- WWF Intercontinental Championship- Stone Cold Steve Austin © vs. "The Rock" Rocky Maivia Rock comes down with the entire Nation-- Faarooq, Kama, and D'Lo. The glass breaks, and Austin comes out behind the wheel of his pick-up truck! He gets in the ring and starts getting pummeled by the entire Nation. The bell hasn't rung by this time. Austin makes a come-back, and backdrops D'Lo over the top rope and into the windshield! He then gives D'Lo the Stunner on the roof. Inside, the bell rings, and Austin and Rocky exchange blows. Austin hits a Lou Thesz Press, but Rock turns it into a pin for two. Austin goes back outside, where Faarooq & Kama go after him. Kama grabs a chair, and goes to hit Austin, but accidentally nails Faarooq! Austin takes out Kama and goes back in. Rock hits the unofficial People's Elbow for two. Chinlock, and it's time for another People's Elbow. That one misses, and Austin Stuns the ref by mistake. Retard... anyway, Austin hits Rocky with a Stunner, as another ref runs in. Austin gets the win at 5:31. Cool match, which changed the WWF forever. More on that in a second. The match was really entertaining and pretty good... I give it **3/4 Now, the next night on Raw, Vince McMahon, the OWNER was pissed off at Austin's actions at the PPV, so he ordered a rematch that night. Austin didn't want to, so he decided to just forfeit the IC Title to Rock. I believe he ended up throwing the IC Title off of a bridge and into a river. Nevertheless, he forfeited the title and basically stated that he wanted to go for the WWF Championship. From here, Austin officially entered the main event and started his feud with WWF Owner, Mr. McMahon. Then, Rocky continued on with his cocky attitude with the IC belt, which he would hold to Summerslam. He lost the title to HHH at Summerslam in the Ladder match that made both of their careers. From there, Rock gained more and more fan support and won the WWF Title a few months later at Survivor Series. Whew... so what's next? --- Ken Shamrock is getting ready for his WWF Championship match with Shawn Michaels... that's what's next... From what I remember, the story for this was that Shawn Michaels screwed Ken Shamrock out of winning the title from Bret Hart before Survivor Series. After Survivor Series, as if Shamrock wasn't pissed off enough, DX kept messing with him, setting up this match. --- WWF Championship- Shawn Michaels vs. Ken Shamrock Shawn Michaels has HHH & Chyna with him. Shamrock has control early on. He nails Michaels with a kick to the head. Shawn runs outside and stalls for a bit. He heads back in, only to get suplexed a few times. Again, Shawn runs. Back in, and Shawn runs again. Shawn attempts a sunset flip, but it's blocked. Back outside, HHH gets some shots in, and Shawn takes full control. Then, Chyna throws Shamrock into the ringpost! Back inside, Shawn works the back. Dropkick for two. Chinlock into a sleeper. Finally, Shamrock comes back with clotheslines and a powerslam for two. HHH & Chyna start to get more shots in on Shamrock. Shawn heads up top and hits the flying elbow! Shawn starts to tune up the band... Sweet Chin Music... is missed, and Shamrock counters it into the Ankle Lock! HHH & Chyna run in and break it up, to give Shamrock the DQ win, at 18:26. This could've been half-way decent had Shawn decided to not slack off. At least Shamrock tried. **3/4. Was the DQ finish really necessary? Was Shamrock that precious to not be able to be pinned or something? Shamrock is layed out as Shawn celebrates on the ring apron. Suddenly, Owen Hart, who hasn't been seen since Survivor Series, runs in and knocks him off and right through the Spanish announce table! Owen jumps on him and starts pounding away. HHH makes the save, and Owen runs through the crowd. Shawn recovers, and him, HHH, & Chyna celebrate as Shamrock walks off to the back... --- --- --- --- --- --- Whoa, what an atrocious show! The best match is **3/4? That's really sad... but, of course, this is the follow-up show to Survivor Series '97, and alot of the fans didn't have much interest. Overall, avoid this show at all costs. Guest Report post Posted June 9, 2002 Thanks for some good feedback... Although those three shows are tempting, I'm going to next do a rant on Royal Rumble '96. Oh, and just to let you know, KOTR '95 is probably my most hated PPV of all time. I don't watch WCW tapes. As for WM 9, I really don't feel like watching it.
