Ever worry that some athletes just don't care?

Some players probably care until they get to the show and get that first big contract. I'm looking at you, Carl Pavano.

To further my point about football, I've seen some of the most talented players slip through the cracks because they didn't care. I'd say that a good 15-20% of the NFL is there to collect the paycheck. I know quite a few football players (no pros yet!), and what I've seen makes it easier for me to make that statement. The guys that actually care are usually the ones that get fucked over because they don't have the physical talent or size to carry them into the league. Former San Jose State running back Deonce Whitaker, that motherfucker cared, but he was 5'4 on his best day. I feel sorry for the guys like him. Look at his stats. 147 yards on 15 carries against the Blackshirts?

EDIT: Ok, I ventured into namedropping. I'll stop.

Adrian Beltre 2004 - .324, 121 RBIs, 48 home runs

Enter the $65 million contract

Adrian Beltre 2005 - .255, 87 RBIS, 19 home runs

Of course, he could also just be a former juicer. I don't know which would make me feel better, doesn't care at all, or cares so much that he uses steroids.

But, why would Beltre stop caring after he got that big contract? Does he want people going around thinking he doesn't care about his job? Nobody wants to be embarrased or pointed to as a reason not to give a big contract to someone after a career year.

Baseball seems like it would be hard to care about too, 162 games, and half the teams are out of the play-offs before the first pitch is thrown. I'd like to think that the history of the game drives people, and the fact that theres an entire team full of people waiting to take your place in AAA ball, and that players aren't wearing rally caps and chewing styrafoam cups for nothing...

I think when baseball is all you know, you have to love the game.

Your saying that man beast Amelie Marusemo is attractive?

To some, she is. Mostly women... but, they're people too.

Of course, if you also entered the three years prior to 2004, you would get the same numbers as 2001-03. And each of those years he was playing for an arbitration award, so you can't say there was not a monetary incentive. The "contract theory" is a myth.
