Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Ok, we know you don't like Hogan, how about this one... ...had Hogan NOT been around all these years, who do you think would have been "the big star" in his place? Do you even feel there would be that one guy that is seemingly above everyone else? How do you think wrestling TODAY would be different?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 I'm telling you... McMahon could have pushed anyone like Hogan and they would have been the one to have "Made Wrestling" That whole idea is a crock. People cheer for who they are told.
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 I heard if Vince wasn't able to get Hogan, Ric Flair was his next choice. Although Vince wanted them both in the '80s.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Randy Savge, easily!!! Roddy Piper, easily! Paul Orndorff, easily!
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Flair and Savage would have been huge with the full power of the WWF behind them from the start of the "boom"
Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 16, 2002 I'm telling you... McMahon could have pushed anyone like Hogan and they would have been the one to have "Made Wrestling" That whole idea is a crock. People cheer for who they are told. Hey, I'm big enough to admit that if not for Vince McMahon, Hogan wouldn't have been as huge as he became. As you said, McMahon made Hogan... ...but even with that said, Hogan did a hell of a lot for Vince, so that saying can also be said the other way around... ...Hogan "helped" make the WWF and Vince McMahon. But you are right, there are many others who could have done it. My question to you, is who do you PERSONLY feel it could have been?
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 The WWF would of been different. As Flair would of taught the mainstream media, wrestling. While Hogan was more character driven.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 At that time period... I'd say that Savage and Flair could have done the job admirably.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Yeah someone like Flair or Savage could've legitimized wrestling for the mainstream press, where as Hogan exposed the business more than Dusty Rhodes ever could.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Flair and Savage would have been huge with the full power of the WWF behind them from the start of the "boom" Well it seems you answered my question as I was making my other post, lol. Oh well! Anyhow, here are a few I think could have been "the one"... 1) Randy Savage 2) Ric Flair (Yes, I feel he could have been bigger than he was!) 3) Ted Dibiase (Good lord, this man should have been on the TOP of the mountain!) ...I'm actually shocked that I'm the only one to mention Ted so far. :-)
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 The thing about Flair was he was a great wrestler, who much like Hogan, if you saw one Flair match, you saw them all. It's just Flair was able to make the guys he's wrestling & himself look good. Flair not only was a great wrestler, but a great promo guy. So he would of fit in the 1980s WWF. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 16, 2002 "The thing about Flair was he was a great wrestler, who much like Hogan, if you saw one Flair match, you saw them all.' gotta disagree with you Tony. each Steamboat-Flair match was unique in its own right because each match built from the previous one. The Funk-Flair I Quit match was unlike anyother Flair match. Vader-Flair was similar to Vader-Inoki '96. Flair had his own style but his matches were anything but cookie cutter. Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 I retract my statement. I will say Flair was more predictable than anything else. You knew the spots he was going to do, but he did it in a way where not only did he look good, but the other guy did too.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Every wrestler has a move set. Knowing how and when to use it is what makes you great. There is a reason that the Flair of the early 80's is considered the greatest US wrestler off all time.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Hey if nothing else, retracting your statement gives you an extra post, just like this one puts me one more until 2oo. Damn, at 199. Back on topic- Same thing with Bret Hart. He has his own moveset, like Flair, five moves of doom etc., but was Bret-Owen like Bret-Stone Cold. Two different matches unique in their own little way but both great.

Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Let me make it clear Flair is God! Thank you!
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Yeas Flair is God. At least you didn't try and make this another idiotic Hogan-Flair debate since Hogan is nowhere the caliber of Flair as a wrestler.

Guest Brian Report post Posted February 16, 2002 All this moveset talk pisses me off more and more with the WWF style because the basic premise is the matches are based around a few key moves and a lot of punching and kicking. It's really dumbed down.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Yes it is. Hey I just decided what my Dream Match would be: It is one of 4 things: (of course they are all in their primes) 1. Bret Hart vs. Kurt Angle 2. Ricky Steamboat vs. Shawn Micheals 3. Ric Flair vs. Stunning Steve Austin 4. Chris Benoit vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin (before injury)
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Hey, the Benoit-Austin Samckdown match rocked this world, so I'm happy. My dream match has to be Owen-Steamboat Iron Man match. I could watch those two for days. In fact I have been. I just picked up alot of old WWF and WCW tapes featuring those two. I miss them both terribly. Matches that could still happen.... Benoit-RVD would be sweet. RVD can supply the heat while Benoit carries the match. Excellent!
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 RVD & Benoit could have a rockin' match.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 16, 2002 If the NWO infects the WWF like I think it might, then it might be one of the only matches we can look forward to in the next 6 months or so.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Agreed. I'd like to see them have 3 ppv matches (like Edge Regal...only good) at Fully Loaded, Summerslam & Unforgiven (or something of the like, after Benoit is back in form) That would be a hell of a feud. Benoit should win the feud but RVD will come out of it wiser and better than ever. ELAVATION FOR ALL! oh wait...HHH, Hogan and Nash work here, don't they?
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 No more Edge/Regal matches. Let RVD have the I-C Title.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 16, 2002 I wouldn't mind an Edge-RVD fight at Mania. it would probably be spotty but Edge should be a heel since is face act is tired. It would definitely be better than Goldust-RVD or Regal-Edge 5 or whatever. Yes, RVD deserves the IC belt at least but if X-Pac joins the NWO, he'll convince Trips that he should be carrying the belt instead.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 16, 2002 They probably will book it as Edge vs. RVD at Mania. Because it is in Canada and they think that it will hurt RVD's heat. That's the 2 projects the WWF has right now: 1. Get HHH over as a face 2. Destroy RVD's heat
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 16, 2002 Damn bps, you should be writing these conspiracies down. The scary thing is that every one of them that I have read is logical.
