Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 The first thing I can think of is the movie Boondock Saints Nobody seems to have ever heard of this movie. I think it's hard to find on DVD even though no one has ever heard of the movie, I had to download it from Kazaa to watch it. It's a cool vigilante movie that I think anyone would enjoy.
Guest J*ingus Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 A few of my personal favorites, ones which I'd be surprised if anyone (except C.H.U.D., who apparently really knows what he'd do "If I Had A Million Dollars") has seen more than a couple of them: Living in Oblivion Tokyo Fist Dark Angel: The Ascent Deadly China Hero The Kingdom Sanjuro After Hours Lady from Shanghai Sherlock Jr. The Sweet Hereafter Fritz the Cat Just Heroes Dog Day Afternoon Wings of Honneamise The Rapture Crimewave Stalker Bad Lieutenant Red River Nosferatu the Vampyre Assault on Precinct 13 Diggstown Cemetary Man Mean Streets Killer's Kiss Exotica Um,that's plenty enough for now, I'm sure I can think of more later.
Guest shlidgn90 Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 exotica is pretty good. you should see another movie by atom egoyan named the sweet hereafter.
Guest Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 I told everyone about boondock saints when it was re-released, no one seemed to care. dog day afternoon is unknown? it had frekin pacino in it. Diggstown, dude everyones seen that. --Rob
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 Nobody seems to remember ExoSquad except for me and my friend Scott... As for movies, the entire Phantasm series never gets any credit.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 yeah, Dog Day Afternoon isn't nearly as recognised as it should be. Attica! Attica! Nobody seems to remember Welcome Back Kotter either Raging Bull always gets overshadowed by the second most overrated movie ever, Rocky.
Guest razazteca Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 Deadly China Hero Jet Li as the drunken master ruled plus whats funnier than the chicken suit kung fu Great China Hero is just as good
Guest El Satanico Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 Well seeing as how my post about it has only been viewed five times. Farscape is one of the better shows on tv, but it's hardly ever mentioned.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted June 8, 2002 Report Posted June 8, 2002 I used to watch Exo Squad too.
Guest JMTapes Posted June 9, 2002 Report Posted June 9, 2002 Boondock Saints was pretty cool. It was a little odd, though, but still very good. Also, Almost Heroes (one of Farley's last movies) was really funny, but no one except me & my brother have ever seen it that I know of. -Jim www.jmtapes.com
Guest areacode212 Posted June 9, 2002 Report Posted June 9, 2002 Nobody seems to remember Welcome Back Kotter either I think most people remember Welcome Back, Kotter. It lasted for 4 years, and launched John Travolta to stardom. And didn't it get a cartoon spin-off as well, or am I just hallucinating? Let's see. I loved Grosse Pointe (the WB show), but nobody seems to remember it, other than TV geeks. Everyone remembers the character Max Headroom, from the 80s Pepsi commercials, but hardly anyone remembers watching the Max Headroom TV show, which probably explains why it got canned so quickly.
Guest ant_7000 Posted June 9, 2002 Report Posted June 9, 2002 Ultraman, which the Power Rangers ripped off the concept of fighting giant monsters
Guest Renegade Posted June 9, 2002 Report Posted June 9, 2002 I actually dont know what the name of the show was but here is a description: Japanese cartoon about preteen soccer fanatics/players, where they did the most far fetched moves and stunts (e.g ripping the net with a shot, or a guy who had shot so strong it KO'ed people) I think it was an 80's cartoon, i marked out for it when i was kid though.

I've seen maybe about 75% of those. Looks like the list of a man that worked in a video store too long. That's what happened to me.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted June 9, 2002 Report Posted June 9, 2002 Dude, I wicked remember UltraMan! I actually just had a small conversation about that show yesterday...odd... Another movie that kicks a lot of ass and gets no credit is Grosse Point Blank. It came out when the trend in Hollywood was the high school reunion storylines, and it was definitely the best of those comedies.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Ok, I'll restate that then. Most ppl that I know haven't heard of Welcome Back Kotter and what about Greatest American Hero?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 two saturday cartoons from my childhood: All-Stars which was Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, and Bo Jackson using their athletic abilities for things and Captain N which was a 30-min weekly nintendo commercial
Guest J*ingus Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 deaf & Arkham, which ones hadn't you seen/heard of? (I'm always trying to keep ahead of the curve on the "I've seen more of le cinema than you have!" elitist snob arguments.) Hmmm... maybe I overestimated the obscurity of some of those movies. Allow me to list a few more: Aguirre, the Wrath of God The General (1927) Blood for Dracula Violent Cop Curse of the Cat People Fun Tetsuo: the Iron Man Silent Movie Black Sabbath Audition Bulletproof Heart Long Day's Journey Into Night The Zero Effect Snake in Eagle's Shadow Hotel Room Therese & Isabelle Heroes Shed No Tears The Keep Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend Dead Calm The Stranger Zelig Weekend Backtrack The Gold Rush The Valley of Gwangi Masque of the Red Death (1964) Desperate Living
Guest cynicalprofit Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Duckman....one of the best tvs ever Dinosaurs, the later seasons. Man the stuff it talked about got really heavy and it went over its target audiences head. But still the whole global destruction thing and how were on the same path they are was totally killer and correct. To bad no one realizes it. The Critic was always funny, even if it became dated when comedy central was airing it last summer, which will probably be the last time it sees day light. Also i have to throw out a comedian that not alot of people know about because he never did sell out. Bill Hicks. Funniest man to ever live. Guy was a prophet. His stuff is still relevent today, all you have to do is stubstitue names like britney spears of tiffany, etc, and it still works. Hell he even brought up if child molesting was something the government was trying to stop at waco, they why didnt they go after the cathloc church? Man died to soon. And has been ripped off by dennis leary and carlin ever since. The whole no cure for cancer thing was because bill died of it and leary became famous after bill died using his ideas. ok time to shut up.

One of my favorites RUSHMORE! It was so good. The humor was blunt and it really was an all around great movie.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted June 10, 2002 Report Posted June 10, 2002 Not too many people remember Swan's Crossing when I talk about it, although it jumpstarted Sarah Michelle Gellar's career, and it only lasted a season. Guest Anorak Posted June 11, 2002 Report Posted June 11, 2002 There were two TV shows that stood out for me in recent years that are not awfully well known, 'The Adam & Joe Show and 'Vids', both on Channel 4. A & J is a better known show than it once was, thanks mainly to word of mouth and some glowing write ups in the broadsheets. Basically a send up/tribute to pop culture, it spoofs films and television in really funny and original way, its one of the daftest and cleverest shows on television. They shoot their own homemade versions of Holywood films using nothing but fluffy toys and voiceovers. Not only is it brilliantly done and ingenius but the 'toy movies' also act as mini reviews, with the jokes actually providing a critique of the film, Saving Private Ryan and American Beauty were totally ripped apart. There's also weekly skits with A&J's star wars figures recreating certain tv shows, their Yoda and Obi Wan (portrayed as a pissed irishman) are pure gold. There's also plenty of skits they act out personally as well. Its become a deserving cult success over the past couple of years. Vids is a late night video review show featuring a two guys who rant and rave about films. An average show would see them review a Hollywood film, a foreign film and any number of obscure genre flicks from any period in cinema history. There's so much truth and common sense in their very candid opinions, they often rant about society in general when talking about a certain film and the points they make are often hilarious, truthful and quite perceptive all at the same time. Just as much contempt is often shown towards young film buffs who consider themselves superior as towards the people who pay their money to see any garbage, no bias is shown towards certain types of films. Their take on certain 'Americanisims' present in many films is very funny as well, there's a great mix of brilliantly observed home truths and surreal profanity that makes the show great as both cine-literate film discussion and as great comedy. I don't know whether or not the show has finished for good, it was on in the early hours of the morning on 4Later.
Guest Vyce Posted June 11, 2002 Report Posted June 11, 2002 Hmm...movies... Dark City (only Roger Ebert seems to give this movie its due) City of Lost Children (bizarre French sci-fi flick; Ron Perlman, as usual, kicks ass) Cronos (a Ron Perlman theme! Nice new take on the vampire concept by Guillermo del Toro) Big Trouble in Little China (one of the best movies ever made. Yes, I really did type that. Yes, I'm serious. You won't find much of anything else as campy or as goofy fun as this Carpenter flick.) Pitch Black (somewhat underrated modern sci-fi flick with Vin Diesel in total badass mode) Ikiru (my personal favorite Kurosawa film; it doesn't get the recognition that his other higher profile films, such as Yojimbo or Seven Samurai or Ran, have, but it's a wonderful, sad, thought-provoking film. Depressing, but at the same time, optimistic and rewading.) As for TV shows.... Farscape is very underrated - it is, IMO, the best sci-fi show currently in production today. And I'd also give special mention to "Insomniac" with Dave Attell on Comedy Central. Pretty funny show when you get down to it.
